I want to hear your opinions guys, what was the reason Isaac's AT was cut for Smash 3DS / Wi U?
Sakura stated that new and recent appearances aka 'relevance' does matter, but at the same time he added Mega Man. Basically doing more for the character than Capcom in recent years.. or so I understood.
I still feel like Isaac's chances where hugely hindered by a couple of few other character's entrance. A common complaint from detractors was that he's 'too anime' or too generic, and our reply is his abilities make up for it. Which they do, yet he also carries a sword and this might've been hindering his inclusion, same with no recent Golfen Sun game(s).
Robin uses magic and a sword for example, and Fire Emblem.. well, outside of Sakurai bias, it's just one of the bigger older running RPGs for Nintendo. Isaac could in a way, play much like Robin. I also would expect Isaac to be one of the slower characters, with charge up Special Attacks and zooming emphasis.
Then there's Shulk, who was always seen as Isaac's main 'rival' for getting into Smash.. Guess he 'won'. Xenoblade was a highly popular game, considered near one of the best games on Wii (Wii era was pretty good honestly) so in a way, no real surprise I hindsight. Sakurai even stated that characters as him don't normally get into Smash. So that might be a reason Sakurai excluded Isaac before (Brawl was Isaac's main missed opportunity imo). Stat buffs also easily could've been a gimmick for Isaac if Djinni and Summons where used in his move set.
Lastly there's Cloud, and no anime swordsman in gaming is more popular than him, outside maybe Link. Big sword, zoning, stat buffs, he's basically a overpowered version of what also could've been Isaac. Third party was heavily biased over second party in the roster choices of Smash Wii U / 3DS. But likewise with Fire Emblem, Final Fantasy is million times more well known than Golden Sun, and also still running. Worst part, Cloud and Isaac even look a like and the FF stage has ****ing SUMMONS BY GIANT MONSTERS.......
I think Isaac didn't really stand all too much of a chance in retrospect. But the mockery was real, at least for me.
