If the background indeed tease King K Rool, let's be honnest, no one has goddamn barrels in their studio, then the next newcomer could be skull kid if the backgroud was relevant.

In terms of "Start with a hero, end with a villain", I think its a massive stretch. They're just ending with the more popular characters. E3 didn't start with a hero or anything, for example. The Direct started with something else entirely. The Smash section started with going through every returning character.

I did some digging, specifically I looked at the old Isaac threads and checked their page counts.

In Brawl, Isaac had 57 pages (not including the, like, 10 other Support Threads he had).
In Smash 4, Isaac amassed 480 pages in the three years it was active.

This thread started a year and a half after the Sm4sh Isaac thread closed, and currently has a third of the amount of Pages.

That's the only way I see a hypothetical "The golden sun and moon/mask were hints" scenario play out. If that were the case, there's no way they wouldn't also reveal a new Pokemon rep there since they'd literally be using the sun and the moon as symbols. Though honestly, I do expect such a rep to be at a September general direct instead alongside an Isabelle echo since they'd both be well-known by a casual audience. All of their remain

Something I was thinking about in regards to Mii costumes in the last game. It's possible Sakurai intentionally didn't give every popular ballot character a Mii costume. He probably foresaw that people would look to them as an indication of what characters would be playable in the next game.

Think about it, people have already been using Mii costumes as proof that their character is a likely choice for a playable character even though characters like Takamaru who also got a Mii costume had been disconfirmed right from the start. It's died down a little now that Ashley was disconfirmed but it's still around.

Imagine how intense that theory would be if it was actually coming true direct after direct?

I mean I think the Mii costume idea is already dead with Ashley being disconfirmed but aside from that I think people using it as an indication of anything are assuming that Sakurai wouldn't have seen that coming. (which I think is seriously underestimating how shrewd he is)

If there's one thing Sakurai loves it's surprising people (he said as much in an interview about Wii Fit Trainer) so I don't think he'd make the mistake of spelling out what characters were getting into the next game.

I've been saying this for a while. Ridley didn't get one, for example. Inklings made a lot of sense because their game just came out. K. Rool got one, but he at least had a trophy in the game.

Isaac getting one would've just been way too obvious. As it is, a lot of people predicted K. Rool because of his, but at least he had a trophy in-game already.

I don't know. I'd say that Geno and Isaac are about the same, at least in terms of relevancy.

I even hear he's much more popular in NA, and EUR. EUR especially.

Remeber, King K. Rool, and Ridley were pipe dreams to most fans.

Even Shulk at one point was perhaps too small of a character to put in smash.

We either go in or go all out.

For this, i'll go in.

It's better than doing nothing. Being unable to know if Golden Sun will ever get representation ever again.

It's probably present in other JRPGs but Golden Sun seems notable to me in the sense that it places it's party members very close to each other on the battle screen. They're almost on top of each other.

I mean, it's still a playable character and one that's very similar to Isaac so I can't be upset, but I'd be incredibly confused. It'd only make sense if Camelot insists on running with the current DD canon for the future, because otherwise, Isaac has every reason to be in Smash before Matthew.

I know in FFVII at least the characters are much further apart in battle. It could be an interesting point even if it carries a logical explanation (only being as close as they are does it gives the illusion that they're standing next to each other rather than behind one another), because it adds to the uncanniness to the Camelot battles.
