I'm gonna assume that the rolling box is the 'weird' character, but I'm wondering how that falls under weird. I assume if you'd need to make a guess based on the boxes, the wheelcrate could be someone fairly mobile or someone who uses wheel-based locomotion (like Mach Rider, for lack of any good examples).

I'm going to guess that the original wooden crate will be an old veteran, maybe Yoshi from the original twelve. The second box will be a returning veteran, but with an updated move-set. And, finally, the present will be a gift from Sakurai to all fans. Ridley would make many people excited, so I'm hoping, for the Ridley die-hards, that it will be him revealed.

As much as everyone here hates to admit it, Mii is confirmed. Why? Because we've already had not one, but two 3DS stages representing the Mii franchise. That evidence is pretty hard to deny.

No, the rolling wooden box represent a a long running/ retro character. Wood was considered the first type of material to be used in tools and shelter.

It could be Ness, Captain Falcon and Yoshi (or Jigglypuff). Yoshi (or Jigglypuff) is a cutsy character. Captain Falcon is from a futuristic series. Ness is a long running veteran that uses a wooden baseball bat.

Plus the present box is pink with a ribbon. Jigglypuff had an alt with a ribboned hat and is now a fairy type, which is the color pink.

For veterans, I was right I guess. Yoshi was the present, Zero Suit Samus was the futuristic crate and Sheik is the wooden crate.

Simon Belmont's likelihood increase slightly due to Snake's decreased chances along with Sheik getting a new forward B (which was very similar to Simon's dangling whip attack in Castlevania IV) and Zero Suit Samus becoming less of a generic whip user.

Today's Miiverse has Mario with a Fire Bar and Link with a Beam Sword on the Punch-Out!! stage. Mario and Link had anniversaries recently. Little Mac was confirmed on the 30th anniversary of Punch-Out!! Today is the 30th anniversary of Duck Hunt.

The Fire Bar is from Super Mario Bros. and it was often bundled with Duck Hunt. The Beam Sword is made of lasers... and Duck Hunt game was influenced by the Nintendo's first video game Laser Clay Shooting... and it was an arcade game... just like the first Punch-Out!! game. Oh, and some Zelda games had shooting galleries where Link had to shoot moving targets... just like the gameplay in Duck Hunt.

Therefore, Duck Hunt Dog confirmed.

Also, gasping at straws? The joke image of Pac-Man in the clouds totally confirms him!(now, it looking like him is actually realistic enough for them to do it for fun. That part's no stretch. It meaning anything? That's a stretch.)
