I see a lot of people hate Krystal here.... hm.

I have the feeling that StarFox 2 (IT'S ARMADA FOR CRYIN OUT LOUD) is going to pull a Wind Waker on you guys... meaning to say that like the Wind Waker, people hated the graphics, then loved it because the game was so freaking awesome. Similar story. You guys just don't like Krystal being in it. Basically, you want it to be StarFox 64, without Andross. That would be lame, since I beat it about 10 times over already. But I like the option of ground, tank, or Arwing all the time (gets into Landmaster tank for whole game)

The problem with SF64 is that it was too frickin' short! An addictive and entertaining game that on a weekend, you could beat fifty times over if you wished to! After the first time, though, it wasn't much of a challenge and it was basically just for high scores. Though they did hide lots of goodies with alternate routes and different planets to go to, and three vehicles to master.

Playing Video games.
My Two Cents.

I watched G4's E3 special and most of the people they talked to said that Nintendo was disappointing overall, mostly because it broke the tradition of being very secretive and covert. The most disappointing Nintendo game? None other than Star Fox 2.

What I don't like is that Nintendo is again outsourcing the Star Fox franchise to a 2nd or 3rd party. But Namco's pretty good with flying games so it's ok now. But the big mistake was giving Rare the job. They turned the franchise into Nintendo's crappy futuristic rendition of Dinotopia. Rare is best on platform adventure games although Goldeneye was nice(the two heads of that project left when PD was being made), so Nintendo had it coming. Krystal should not be in there, I rather just a have several levels on the Dinosaur planet instead. If there is and one of them is that you need to escort Krystal from the planet or something, count me out from completing that mission. I rather barbecue her with some missiles and a fully charged laser blast because she is the symbol of how a great franchise was literally ***** and turned into something pathetic. Who made that decision to that anyways?

What I like the most is that you can choose what you want for weaponized transportation for each mission and the overall look of the game despite the fact that they added someone that 85% or it seems of fans want executed. I also want different stages and bosses for each difficulty, that would be helpful to the replay value. Hopefully there will be submarine levels where you could be in a wetsuit and have a harpoon gun or be on one of those little submersibles. Lastly, I want a new voice for Fox too, the new accent doesn't fit a character that has the same last name as the guy from Highlander...

The best things in Starfox history are the Starwolf dogfights and the secret area in the original that had the huge asteroid with a face that looked eerily like Gannondorf's. The most disappointing things are SFA and finding out six years after the original that a second Japan only sequel had came out a year after it. Let's just hope that Namco successfully revives this franchise with similar right elements included and not finish it off for good.

I just hope Krystal wasn't included to turn the Star Fox series into a love story between two foxes.

BTW
a. I almost beat the original Star Fox over the weekend (made it to final boss but lost!)

and

b. I wonder if Namco's Fox will follow the preliminary storyline of the cancelled Star Fox 2 for SNES???

Never played SFA, (I'll get to it someday, maybe when it hits the bargain bin if it's as bad as all you say) so I don't know the reasoning behind Krystal hatred (besides the punny name). I mean shes not a bad character to look at though I think Fara would have been a better love interest. (*waves off funny stares*)

But character-wise you gotta remember that the Starfox team isn't a disciplined unit of the Cornerian military or whatever. They are mercenaries, go where the money takes 'em but have a sense of justice to guide their path. So Fox should sound renegadish and lead by rogue charm rather than a stoic tough command.

As for Armada (or whatever they changed the name to) itself, it doesn't look very impressive right now, but things can change from an E3 to launch. (example: Halo)
Emphasis should be put on the vehicles, both flying and tracked (but mostly flying) and as cool as having a partner perched on your wing taking potshots is... it just looks ridiculous to me.

Bottom line: It still looks too early in development for judgement (heck my stance seems to be it's always too early until the game is released) Keep the focus on their fighting ships and tanks, plenty of stuff to blow up, coop mode along with standard multiplayer and bump the graphics up to SSBM level and I'll be content.

I'm glad that we're all hating it right now, cause the opposite happened with SFA. Whenever there's little to no expectation, every small achievement is cherished.

But yes, SFA was pretty bad. Now that I think about it, there's not much to remember from the game besides the graphics. With Zelda:OoT, for example, I remember walking out of the Temple of Time and finding the marketplace in ruins. There was a past, a plot, and a convincing background. With SFA, it was just the fleeting present; to be successful in that genre, you gotta be more than that. I also got the impression that I could pilot the Arwing to wherever I want and just mow down random enemies. I guess not. The Arwing part was "an afterthought," as IGN puts it. There's little freedom to stray from the mission.

Hmmm... and don't forget that Fox's SFA voice was done by the same voice-actor as Elvis' from Perfect Dark. A lot of it is British attempt to make something American. I'd say the Japanese did a better job (esp at making Pepper resemble MacArthur, hehe).

Krystal? She's awright. But again, she was an afterthought; a clothing rack with little background.

Anyway, enough of that. I found this trailer from the Nintendo Japan E3 site. It might be old, but whatever.

http://www.nintendo.co.jp/n10/e3_2003/movie/starfox.wmv

The gameplay looks sorta Halo-ish with the heavy "interactive environment" concept.
Nothing spectacular, but it shouldn't be that bad.

*Funny stares* ;)

Dear Lord I hope it is mostly SF64 style. I loved that game. I have yet to play SFA but from what I have heard it is horrible. And I also hope this is not Halo-ish. The ship flying thing is plenty for me.

I agree that this game doesn't look too impressive, but I am with Misto-Roboto. You guys just don't give things chances.

The funny thing is:

Before the 4 big, anticipated Nintendo-franchises games (Mario, Fox, Metroid, Zelda) were released, I looked at all 4 games screenshots, videos, etc. and thought SFA was going to be the best. I thought it was going to blow away Mario Sunshine. I thought it was going to blow away Metroid Prime. I thought it was going to blow away Wind Waker. SFA ended up being my least favorite. I looked at Wind Waker, and thought it was going to- suck- (sorry)! It ended up being my personal favorite. I didn't think SMS was going to be that good. I liked it (IMO, even over SM64). I really didn't know what to expect from Metroid Prime. I ended up being blown away by it.

It is too darn early to make up judgments. Give it a chance.

Yeah, give the on-ground concept a chance! Hopefully, Fox won't be running around with a staff and a stupid whiny dinosaur following him. But now it makes the series, in my opinion at least, have more of a personal feel, especially with multiplayer. Now you can see who you are, you aren't just looking at some ship shooting at other ships. You're a fox or a frog (I'll be playing Slippy with multiplayer).

Now, I'll admit the graphics look a little outdated, but hopefully the story isn't.

Hey I don't think Kristal will ruin this game this game is about shooting like the SF64 i think this game will rock.

SFA is a xtremely EASY game although it's videos are cool but this SF2 will be totally different and Kristal will be just a another member of starfox team (because Peppy retired)

I, like several others, am quite dissapointed with how this game looks thus far. The graphics fail to impress, unlike Star Fox 64 or SFA, and the gameplay looks to be a little... finicky (I mean, ground support? That's what people disliked about SFA!). To be honest though, I don't see how this can't be that arcadey kind of fun, even though it seems to be a dulled down SF64.

Nope, Peppy's still in there. And replacing him with Krystal would be the worst thing ever to happen to the Starfox Series. Krystal better not be a member a Starfox. But I agree her presence won't entirely ruin the game, though, if you're in the arwing for the most part.

Are you saying Peppy is still flying an Arwing? Where did you hear/see this? Maybe I just missed out on something but could you point to the scource. I was just asuming Peppy wasn't flying anymore and taking a seat on the Great Fox.

i suppose this game isn't all that bad, sure the graphics arn't really gamecube-ish and theres that god **** krystal in it (she should really get proper clothes on) but i'd love to run round as this little frog and start shooting ships down with a massive machine gun! I just hope fox dosent have that stupid, god **** smart-a$$ attudud!

Yeah that's what i said Bowser87 I mean i peppy was retired from flying in the arwing and that's why kristal is in the game if you know the whole story of starfox he was in the first Starfox Team with Fox's father and now he's old and he is just in the Great Fox. I think this game will be good not to cool as the N64 one but i'll rate it a 8/10. Just if namco makes it better i would think another rating because i saw in Gameinformer that this game is only 32% Finnish and it says that when the game reaches it's 100% will be a lot different (Graphics and other stuff).

I really don't see why you guys are bashing SF2.The screens look great but yeah I have to agree the graphics look N64ish but remember is only 30% done and there is a long way before completion.I love the option to play on foot,on tank and arwing.I hope that they put the blue marine.SFA wasn't all that bad, yeah it was short and extremely EASY but not as bad as you guys said and Krystal all she needs character develoment remember that she wasn't portrayed very well in the game.Hopefully in SF2 some of those holes might get fill and she could be portraid(sp?)as badass chick(hopefully not). The point is lets not judge this game in his earlier stages.:bee:

Well, lets see. Nintendo unveiled a generally mediocre demo of a franchise that has been ***** by the recent SFA. One question buzed through my mind as I looked at the screens:

HOW CAN STARFOX GET ANY WORSE?!

We see a mediocre game with mediocre graphics and mediocre gameplay at the most mediocre E3 presentation Nintendo has given in recent years.

But lets hope that Namco takes a few months to polish it correctly. I hope all we saw was a VERY EARLY veat version of the game. Perhaps in the future the game will turn out better than expected right now. And by my opinion, ANYTHING's better than what that game is looking like.

Okay, first of all...

I do not condemn Krystal to ****. I do not think that the fact that she's there means that the game should be immediately canned, either.

What I would like to note is that I hope she's actually given a backstory of some kind. More than what's in the manual of Star Fox Adventures. Of course, she probably won't be given too much more. The one thing I complained about with her being in Star Fox Adventures was that she looked like she was set up to have a big role in the story, then turned out to just be there.

I would also like to note that Fara is, pretty much, a fan character of sorts. *shrugs* Plus, she's on the Star Fox timeline, not the Star Fox 64 timeline. This is based on the 64 timeline. If it were the original timeline I would say "Fara should replace Krystal" as it would make more sense.

Yes, she does need more clothes. But she's just a video game character, remember that.

Now, onto Star Fox 2, the big argument...

The fact that it is NOT THE SAME EXACT STYLE OF GAMEPLAY AS STAR FOX AND STAR FOX 64 MAKES ME VERY, VERY HAPPY. I mean, I loved those games, I just would rather not play through the same exact thing.

Yes, of course it is early in development. That is a very, very big important thing. There is PLENTY of room for improvement. And I believe that they ONLY SHOWED ONE LEVEL, correct?

*quietly slips out of Smashboards again*

Why does everyone hates Kristal. She is not responsible for making the SFA game. I'll give Starfox and opportunity so you better check the game whenit reaches at least its 80% no its on 30% what do you want from a 30% game? I know the Two big Japanese producer they will not disapoint us I think Starfox will be 100 better than SFA so this franchise will not be ended as you think.

Starfox 2 IS A SHOOTING GAME like Starfox 64 but now it's a multiplayer game. The problem is that Namco haven't shown anything about the single player mode. But don't worry Namco sure will make a Shooting adventure as well i have emailed them.

Here are some screens of the game.

KRISTAL WILL NOT RUIN THE GAME!!!!!!!!!!!

oh, COME ON!! All I've heard are "the graphics are aweful" and "fox is on foot, that sucks because Nintendo want to try something new that could be really cool, but will foul Starfox pure shooting blood" or "Krystal is in this, I'm going to hang myself"

Do you honestly think that Nintendo, the GREATEST games developer EVER (some of you may disagree, X-box lovers!!) wold just stand there and say "oh yukky, the graphics are terrible. Let's not do anything about them, shal we?"

NO!

This game WILL be good, and if I'm wrong...then I don't care, because I'll be getting it ANYWAY!!

what is Starfox about? FLUFFY ANIMALS SHOOTING EACH OTHER IN EPIC FASHION! Star Wars had a lightsaber battle, didn't it? What's wrong with a bazooka battle? You can still choose to fly an Arwing... This game is supposed to appeal to classic Starfox fans and SFA fans! The old flames can always fly an Arwing, and us adventure freaks, who, since the original smash brothers came out, have always wanted to see Fox kick butt WITHOUT his little spaceship can always go on foot!

Fun Fun Fun Fun Fun Fun Fun!!!!! What are you all whining about???!!?!

Glad you think so:p

What I want to know, is how Nintendo are going to manage the shoot outs in this. Any game with first or third person shooting elements gets it's rating bumped up by one point. (Which is why Banjo Tooie was rated G 8+ over here whan it should have been G.)
There is no way Starfox is ever going to be exceeding the limits of G 8+, so I hope they don't make the weapons or death animations too lame. (but there is a pic further back in this thread that shows Fox with something that looks like an Uzi...)

Plus, fluffy animal wars are cool. I reckon that the multiplayer may (may) be a little bit like ... Halo...minus the first-person bit...and the ******** amounts of alien blood. I mean...In Halo you could run around and shoot, then hop in a tank and shoot, then get out of the tank and shoot...and in this it looks like you can run around and shoot, hop into an Arwing and have some FUN, get back on the ground to see who's firing rockets at you, and storm them with a tank. (and shoot) ^_*

I also hope that they include an "unarmed" setting for ground-huggers...you could face off and slap your opponent around with a bunch of kung-fu moves. It would be cool if some Matrix-style slow kicks where added, and Krystal would seem a lot less idiotic if you could pull off some sexy submission holds or something (the mind boggles)

There has been some gripe about the on-ground controll sceme. You aim with the controll stick and use R trigger to move forward, and the L button to strafe.
This may sound awquard at first, but I reckon it will be good. This is a third-person shooter thing. It will be all about super-sharp aim! A definate skill-tester for sure!

Krystal is welcome in this game by my standards, what confuses me is how Nintendo managed to hook her off Rare...she WAS an original Rare chatacter, wasn't she?

And about her flying an Arwing, it makes sense, I mean...how hard can it be?? (duuh @_@)

I don't think she'll be a wuss, I mean, in SFA she appeared to be able to use her staff. Krystal is acceptable, but if TRICKY IS IN THIS GAME, THAT IS JUST STUPID!

He just might be, too. But that doesn't really matter.

I wonder if we'll be able to play as Wolf or fly in a Wolfen...

Can someone confirm the % complete now?

In a constant state of self-examination. In MN.
K, first of all, let me say that every time i enter this topic, it reminds me that the majority of this forum is made up of kids. To some i mean that in the nicest way possible, meaning no disrespect, taking into consideration that there are plenty of people who consider me to be a kid and that age doesn't denote intellectual stature. But to some of you i mean that in the most condiscending way possible. Every time i enter this topic, before i can read any interesting ideas or new information about this game, i'm stuck reading through mindlessly immature drivel about how this game is either going to suck or is going to rule. Now, i'm all for people voicing their oppinions, but only if you have a semi-coherent oppinion. "This game is gonna suck because i don't like Krystal" is not a coherent oppinion. "This game is gonna rule because i like star fox games and this one is only (insert level of progression here)% done" is not a coherent oppinion either. Jeez people, if you just absolutely HAVE to brag or complain, at the very least come up w/ a logical arguement behind it! It's painfully obvious just how many people here are talking just to talk, without anything important to say, and that is not only immature, but its extremely obnoxious. My point is this; I don't need to be told whether or not this game will suck/rule. If i want to know that i'll wait and PLAY it. So unless asked by someone, don't waste time going on about how a game will suck/rule until you've actually PLAYED it and can give a coherent backing for your statements.
Now, back to actual input, NESSBOUNDER, as far as Big-N's aquisition of Krystal, Nintendo owns the entire Star Fox Franchise, so characters made up as a part of that franchise are automatically owned by Nintendo. Krystal is part of the Star Fox franshise, Star Fox franchise is owned by Nintendo, therefore Nintendo is entitled to the rights to Krystal. It's basically the same reason Nintendo is able to use Diddy in the upcoming Mario Kart: Double Dash. Hope that makes some amount of sense to you.
rAt's outta small change, so i guess that's my two bucks...

I have emailed nintendo and they sayd to ma that they have only advance 1% from now the game is on 31% and play as wolf would be cool but from now are just 4 characters. Fox, Kristal, Falco and slippy and they said they'll add more character but they didn't told me which.

I'm kinda gettin' sick of all this "Don't bash this game" Crap!

To everybody who has said this phrase in some way "Don't bash Starfox 2! It's only 31% done!" you should all be shot! Mainly because of two things:

One: You keep on stating the obvious (the game is 31% done, we all know this!)

Two: You don't know when to shut up!

Seriously, if this is 30% of what the game will look like I don't want to know how the game will look at 50% or 75% even. From what was rumored at EGM, Namco has constantly been going on and off of the project which pretty much explains why this game looks so cruddy at 31%. To be honest right now, this game needs more than just polish to make it look good right now (and no, removing Crystal won't help it [Besides I like her]).

This game seriously needs a graphic overhaul, and different controls for foot based combat (they should take an excample from Metroid Prime with first person in mind). Everything semily looks good, but Namco really needs to focus on gameplay and graphics if Starfox 2 is to even be considered a must have game next year. :shyguy: :beezo:

Me:(getting shot) OWIE!!

Anyway, I've heard rumours that the graphics on this are meant to be "kept down" to make this look like a classic game. That actually doesn't worry me!
I reckon that the on-ground controll is O.K., but it should be more Jet Force Jemini like, in my opinion.
I havn't got to play this because I don't live near an E3 place so yeah...

Um...I've also heard that the arenas will be HUGE! and you will be able to have computer players galore, similar to Perfect Dark's sims.

That's my 1 and a half cents.

me either even if the graphics stay like that the game will have good features and good gameplay and story, multiplayer all that's the good part of it and the levels are huge as well but I prefer to wait until it's finnish and see what's the game about and of course enjoy it ;)
