I have been examining the last trailer and reading posts and I came to the conclusion that I think that the SSBB game speed might be even faster then SSBM's game speed or at very minimum the same game speed.

also the way kirby flew off the screen(especially the way he bounced) looks to me like the physics were altered in some ways from melee.
what do you all think?

I guess the physics gets revamped to incorporate ballistics, or in other words, gravity pulling down on you as you are launched. Instead of being blasted in straight lines you will now be pulled down by gravity. Good thing to add IMO, horizontal finishers will be even more lethal off the ledge if they are dropping, which makes them on an even level with vertical finishers IMO.

MookieRah, you have a way with words, but to some it all up...if gravity has a pretty nice influence in this game....
Well, let's just say that we are all allowed to say that "Brawl Pwns All" .

Edit: Btw MookieRah, is that actually a pic of you?

Yeah, although it's a very old picture.

To get things back on topic, a while back Sakurai said he was gonna slow the game down a bit, but it seems that he didn't really slow the game down as much as he just made Fox not as fast as he used to be (be it running or falling). I mean, if you compare the speed of brawl's trailers to melee's it doesn't look too different (Brawl actually looks faster imo). I haven't looked at it in depth or anything though, and we have no idea what to expect from brawl when it comes to speeding up the gameplay (l-cancels, advanced techniques, etc.).

of course they could have sped it up to make it more intense looking to encourage people to buy it. but I really hope Mookie is right because it means they balanced it moreso than they slowed it down.

in the 15 second trailer it looked like samus' arieal physics were tweaked a bit??
seems more linear (rather than floaty) and a slower fall speed? IMO

what do you guys think, i mean it was only like 3 seconds of video and off center of the action shot??

So did the whole game speeds change? or was he just changing the speed of the characters?

To me, this slight speed drop might just be in our heads. I can still remember a few years ago when I discovered the pro smash scene. The speed of the matches blew my mind, I could hardly keep up. I didn't play half as fast as any of these guys.

Right now, we're all used to seeing every move fast falled, every arial L cancelled, everyone is wavedashing. We see nothing but the current metagame. The trailers we're seeing is probably how we're all going to be moving at the beginning. It's probably no slower than we were moving when we first started with Melee, but we've progressed so far that it's hard to remember being like that. I don't think we can really make a good call about the speed of the game compared to Melee until we've played around with it for a few months and worked out all the nuances that will shape the metagame.

To me the game looks slow, terrible, and not melee. Go ahead and flame me.
That's because it's NOT melee.

I'm not flaming you, but I can probably say that you WILL be disappointed if you are expecting a slightly tweaked melee with prettier graphics.

Just... at least wait til it comes out and give it a fair chance. If you still think it's terrible then you're perfectly entitled to feel that way.

It could be that its just slow from being an early build to catch any bugs if they see any in animation or what not... Then again they would speed it up to regular if they are going to show it off.

even if the game is a bit slower, we will grow accustomed to it. eventually we wont be thinking about how brawl is slower because we will see it as regular. i completely have faith in this game, knowing how much Nintendo cares about there 1st party games ( seeing as thats pretty much all they got)....peace

Yeah, true.
I can go with that answer.
I'm in so many debates right now I just wanna agree.
Plus how can I turn that guy down? He says peace.
If that isn't cool, then I dunno what it anymore. :p

Why, because wavedashing isn't in it? That's not a good reason as to why someone should think that. You haven't even played the game yet!

It seems that this is their way of keeping the game speed in moderation. Like hiroshi said, we'll get used to it eventually since most of us will be playing it. I read about people complaining that Melee's speed was too fast for them, and this is their answer to it. I believe you guys are right when it comes to slowing down the speed to appeal more to the casual gamer. It seems to me that Nintendo seems to focus more on them than the hardcore gamers.

Why does everyone say it looks slow? It looks the same exact speed as melee. Just keep in mind that the only way you will see these characters controlled is by computers or by people who aren't using advanced techniques. Of course the characters are moving slowly. But if you watch carefully, the game speed looks exactly the same.

I garantee you we will be able to speed up the gameplay just like we did with melee

After looking at that 15 second trailer, at Smash Bros. Dojo, you might be right about the game speed, but it seems like when Fox was using the Cracker Launcher on Bowser, the game seems to slow down a bit to me. It could just be me, though.

Yeah, that big looks really specifically slow. It was either the return of Slo-mo melee or it was slowed down for dramatic effect. Or an items that slows time, perhaps?

I think that part was slowed down for dramatic effect. If you get hit by a explosive I don't expect you to slowly float in the air.

Did anyone else think that it all could be a part of playing on the space course? If this is a real Wii game, that will happen.

I've also noticed that when in zero gravity on the Lylat Cruise, Characters jump longer. Usually good when you want to get back on the stage.

I've noticed little things that are in Brawl. Different fall times due to gravity's pull, Eye contact, more responsiveness to punches, Nintendo is making this a realistic game, in graphics and in real life.

Do you fear change Dylan? Do you fear change?

Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo~

In all honestly unless there is an indepth gameplay trailer. It is gonna look slow and make you put on a thinking face. When it comes to fighters, that intensity that can happen between two players is never really shown through official videos and trailers and such.

The slowdown when Fox is shooting could just be actual game slowdown.

(i.e. graphical lag, the wii not being able to render the game at 60fps with all that going on, etc.)

I noticed that, too. They really want to put a lot of detail in this game, even the minimal touches. Of course, I do believe that advanced techniques will still be in tact as well.

I think you should also remember that there might be the possibility of downloadable updates to Brawl. When Halo 2 came out they ****ed up big time.........some of the weapons were useless and some were ridiculously overpowered which made the game ******** at times. After the update, they completely changed the strength/accuracy of some weapons, removed cheating glitches, and changed the strength of melee attacks. You wouldn't believe how much the physics/speed/strength of attacks can be altered with a 15 min. update........so I'm pretty confident no matter what happens Brawl will be amazing. They could even throw in a classic "Melee" mode for die-hard fans like most people on the boards. My biggest concern is with the C-stick which is so important to high level Melee play.......nothing released about that yet. On the other hand, SSB64 has no C-stick and can still be played pretty technically.

THK has a point, man. We can't be one hundred percent sure until we have the game in our Wiis and our controllers in hand.

the game looks slightly slow to me and i;m really hoping that point when boswser gets hit by the firecracker is just slowed down for effect....maybe the item does it automatically... i do think the way gravity is acting on the characters however is very cool

my biggest qualm tho....is not even the speed cause honestly ....melee can be hella too fast for my brain....especially on 4 on 4 battles--when i first started playing i would often lose track of where i was and i;m sure many noobs feel that way---it was so overwhelmed that i played the game on slo mo to get used to it....but of course now my eyes are sharp and i keep up with the speed just fine---but to reach a wider audience the game probably should be slowed just a tad

but my biggest issue is the way some of the characters move....

very obvious in the last part of the 15 second trailer...giga bowser and link seem to not move fluidly...in fact i feel like most of the movements aren;t fluid for all the characters

they seem to be pausing for miliseconds...as if there arent; enough animations happening in the frames...

characters seem to jump from one position to the next within the move...

check link out...at the last part with link...he looks like he;s just going from one position to the next ---NOW I KNOW the move is supposed to looking lighting fast....but a similar effect is happening in many other character's moves

also when one characters hits another....it seems like there is a second of delay before a reaction happen...

i;ve noticed this since the first trailer and it;s been making me crazy

does anyone else know what i;m talking about?
