Unless you've ever played competitive ssb64, you have no idea what ssb64 DI is. Most smashers don't even realize ssb64 had DI. Well ssb64 DI is back in brawl and incredibly useful. What is ssb64 DI?

SSB64 DI was very frame specific unlike melee. For each hit you only had a couple frames to input DI where in melee you could just hold the stick after you were hit. But, unlike in melee, every hit of a multi-hit move can potentially be DI'ed. Thus making single hit moves very difficult to DI but multiple hit moves such as drills far easier to DI out of.

Much like in ssb64, you can DI every hit of multiple hit moves in brawl. Also like ssb64 each hit seems to have frame specific DI input. The result:

- The ability to DI out of the tornado with 100% accuracy
- You can DI completely behind G&W he when hits you with his backair
- DI'ing out of Pikachu's downsmash
- DI'ing out of countless other multi-hit moves

How is it done?

Since you want to DI as many hits as possible you basically slam the joystick in a certain direction as fast and as many times as possible during the period you're being hit. The hardest part is getting in the routine of doing it for multi-hit moves.

If I had a way of recording I'd post videos but for now I can't so I guess if you have any questions just post them.

Uh, this is SDI. It's in Melee, along with the addition of ASDI, then they nerfed ASDI (though it still is in) and made hitlag GIGANTIC causing SDI to be much much more accessible to everyone in Brawl, but there still was SDI in Melee.

No it's not Smash DI. I play/played both ssb64 and melee at the highest competitive level. Smash DI in melee is nothing like ssb64's DI.

Yes, Smash DI is completely different from SSB's DI. But what you're describing is Smash DI, not SSB's DI. Not to mention Overswarm already made a thread about this, plus video(s).

No, I'm not talking about Smash DI. You can't smash DI behind g&w's backair, it takes DI'ing several of the hits. Don't confuse smash DI with ssb64 DI.

Hmm I'm confused. Never played SSB64 competitively. I thought this was just smash DI in Brawl. I know it seems much stronger than it was in Melee or maybe it only looks that way. Tapping the control stick can get you out of almost any multihit move in Brawl.

Smash DI'ing a single hit move is not what im referring to. You can smash/slide DI the exact same way in ssb64 too.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=V3nJT_NpGP4

But that is completely different from being able to DI out of multi-hit moves. In ssb64 and brawl you can DI every hit of the move where in melee you couldn't. And yes theres a huge difference. You don't see people smash DI'ing like that without the use of save states. Where in contrast it is very easy to DI out of multi-hit moves using "ssb64" DI.

YES. YOU. COULD. What you're describing is Smash DI, which happens to be humanly possible on multi-hit attacks in both Brawl and 64 because of the significantly increased hitlag.

wow. He must not know what smash DI is.

This is smash DI, it's just using multiple hits to input multiple smash DIs. It was in melee. For example, you could smash DI the first hit of Fox's upair and not get hit by the second hit.

You could also smash DI each hit of Fox's drill to escape the drill shine infinite in melee.

It's smash DI dude. It's just easier now since there's more hitlag (yet less hitstun)

I've already clarified it. OP is stupid. Smash DI is in every game. It is just easier to do now due to the fact that the game like ****ing freezes for 15 seconds when Zelda lands a bair or fair, and this carries over to other moves.

It is smash DI, and OP is a ****.

Great job smashboards, you all fail again.
half you cant even make your own opinions so you agree with what was said before you.
Then you act all superior, while using someone elses opinions?
Something must be lacking in your daily life.
*coughcoughsliq* the cocky *******, and everyone else with this lame attitude.
this thread isnt BAD, the replies are worse, really immature.

I'm sorry, I didn't realize correcting the OP would be labeled as "immature." Would supporting my argument and knowing what I'm talking about also count as being "immature?"

DI in Melee was horrible. Multi-hit attacks were terribly easy to get out of.

So why is it that in Brawl, multi-hit attacks seem to be so much more effective while we have all these DI options due to the hitlag?

Doesn't add up!

You have more time to SDI, but ASDI is out, so you can't SDI by just holding a direction.

When did i call you immature...The replys are full of unnecessary elitist comments, which is prevalent in smash today.

It is ****ing smash DI. Is this guy stupid?
Gee willy willickers, whats it like being a shit head, op?
So the original poster is a "****head"? You just repeat what was said before you, meaningless posts FTW.
wow. He must not know what smash DI is.

LMFAO Yeah, that sounds real dignified, you must have a larger Epenis.

Yeah what the hell. He was told why he was wrong in the first reply and yall go douche mode insisting that this phenomenon didn't transfer XD. Sheer perfectly described what most competitive players know as SDI. Yall came in here with the Elitism getting mad that we aren't calling it ssb64 DI. "This is why I don't leave our lil cubby hole cause we get proved wrong and it's so hard to accept it." XD

Getting ridiculous with this self fulfilling prophecy crap. =p
