yeah isai dropping is pretty important to internalize into your platform game.

a subtle use of it is using it when you do an auto cancel aerial (the aerial fully ends before you land,) if you're conscious of when your aerials are likely to auto cancel, you can move through the platform a lot faster by isai dropping.

edit: **** yeah i always knew shield dropping felt a little faster than isai dropping LOL

I really want to get more consistent at shield dropping. Not just running shield drop, but dropping when shielding an attack underneath, and on a platform to increase my OOS options.

I had it down pretty well on a controller I had a year ago, but that thing's been dead since before GSG2. :(

Ya, I used to plank perfectly every match for 8 minutes back when I had this one controller. Unfortunately, I got mugged on the way to cata three and the controller was stolen :/

Haven't been able to get that strat unbeatable since I lost that dam controller.

Is there a character who is easiest to learn how to Isai drop?

Like Luigi with wavedashing or how link's dair helps you notice when you l-cancel. Is their someone where when you Isai drop it's super noticeable compared to landing regularly and falling through?

I still don't get shield-dropping. Could someone please explain it to me? You have to be able to tap down and not spot-dodge. There's something to do with angling the shield, but when I try it in frame by frame with various inputs, I get mixed results. I am so bad at doing this : (

Not even. It's more about the speed, and you can 'angle' it. There is a small sweetspot that I'd say ranges about a...45 degree arc from the center. The best way to practice shield-dropping I think is to practice simply crouching on platforms as fast as you can. It's almost identical to the speed and precision of a shield-drop. It may actually be the same timing. I have no AR to tell. But it definitely helped me.

Just crouch, stand, crouch ad naseum. You'll get the timing very fast.

Try angling it down right and down left a bit. Within a 45 degree arc from the center. Pretend the angle faces down like an equilateral-triangle.

I made a crappy diagram:

Past the blue is too far. Yellow is the wrong area to be pressing toward. Red is the area you should be aiming for. Try to stop abruptly at the blue line if you can. If you can get the knack of it.

Are you talking more single attacks or combos, like usually ppl just auto cancel bair, but do you auto cancel anything else? specifically because of being on platforms, like jumping from the top center to one of the side plats.

I watched the video and it talked about doing a normal land (with laser or just impact land on platform) and having a 30 frame landing animation, then cancelling by walking/shielding/etc, then dropping. Does doing an L-cancel/autocancelled aerial still have that 30 frame landing animation which lets you cancel by walking? or does it only work for regular landing or landing after something like a laser or needle?

You should find answers to these questions in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJG-tvT86WU
Thanks for the response. I watched your video. Can you confirm these are all correct?:
Impact land: has 30 frames that can be cancelled after landing (2:36 in your video)

l-cancel aerial: attack air landing lag. I'm not sure about this one, does it have the 30 frames that can be cancelled after the attack-air landing lag is finished? Your video doesn't mention these frames for an l-cancelled aerial

auto cancel aerial: same as regular impact land (has the 30 frames that can be cancelled)

Impact landing lag is only the character-specific amount, although animation itself is 30 frames, yes.

L-canceled has only the lag shown in the table within the video, no 30 frames.

Auto-cancel is always impact landing.
