As well as some leftover villagers, seems the people in the mansion tried to evaquate them and failed. He threw up offscreen, while still crying, he tries to convince himself he can solve this, but is clearly in despair as he slowly walks back in-

-Case in point, he also finds Ram and Petra's corpses in the mansion giving him more despair... Then he also found Emilia's flower hairpin bloodied-

-Advancing in, he sees a frozen corridor, with some cultists also frozen... and he himself now too, as the last thing he hears is Puck's voice saying "you're too late" and he wakes up in front of the apple vendor the day before he and Rem tried to get back-
