-There's a chance they could be hoping for a Trainer to adopt them or take them under their wing because they've either lost or been separated from their friends and families as well...But most of the ones do seem fairly happy or content to begin with, so their cases might not be as severe as many of the other rescued Pokemon. That might mean these ones wouldn't be quite as disappointed or saddened from anyone only picking one of them...-

-In either case, this is starting to seem like one of those Pocket Monster RPGs where the player has to start the game by picking one out of three ore more starter monsters. The difference there is that the player doesn't usually see the reactions of the other monsters, and if they do, they're usually both picked by rival or friend characters of the player instead-
