I mean, given how many seasons these shows have, it was probably a nice alternative to anyone who wanted something more lighthearted and comedic instead of something dark and serious, and vice-versa, so it probably worked out.

And some with mood whiplashes such as Gaim which starts with sillyfruit-themed samurais breakdancing and then later it's revealed there's an eldritch abomination trying to test if humanity are a worthy species to preserve or destroy. Or Abaranger which starts with silly talking robot dinosaurs from another dimension wanting help and then the Sixth Ranger debuts and he's a sociopath bored with life willing to commit genocide on humanity just to feel some thrill and becomes the leader of the bad guys for a while.
