Yeah, for example, the first movie only had 5 Autobots and 7 Decepticons. The toyline had much more than that, consisting of a bunch of OCs that were either new molds that resembled the movie's aesthetic, repaints of the characters in different situations or as new characters (there was blue Optimus meant to be "empowered by the AllSpark, as well as Starscream's toy being repainted into Skywarp and Thundercracker despite them not existing in the movie), and repaints of previous lines toys that seriously clashed with the movie's aesthetic.
