Back then I mean.... See, the origins of Transformers as a brand are... Complicated. Back in the 80s, this toy company named Takara made two different transforming robot toylines, Diaclone, which focused on drivers piloting cars and other vehicles that turned into mecha. The other was Micro Change, which focused on toys that transformed from every day objects like cassette players and handguns into robots. Hasbro was partnered with Takara as they distributed G.I. Joe in Japan, so when Hasbro saw these two lines, they got the idea to repackage them under a single brand, say that they're in a good guys vs bad guys conflict and then sell them. The reason why Megatron turns into a gun? Because the Micro Change toy he originates from isn't meant to be a giant alien robot. The reason Optimus Prime's toy has a cockpit? Because his toy was meant to be a piloted mecha.

So anyway, while primarily taking from these two lines, there was really nothing stopping Hasbro from licensing some toys from external companies to also sell them in this brand so long they were transforming robots. This wouldn't have been an issue... Had Takara not seen the success of the brand and started distributing it themselves in Japan, which essentially makes them actually co-own it with Hasbro in the same way Pokémon has so many owners too... Which brings me to Jetfire, Omega Supreme and Shockwave: They are the lucky ones to appear in the cartoon, their toys are from companies external to Takara, meaning they couldn't distribute them in Japan, and what's more, the toy Jetfire originates from is owned by Bandai, Takara's direct competitor, which made Hasbro redesign him entirely for the cartoon and even name him "Skyfire" in it even if all other media called him Jetfire.

This also meant that other toys licensed from other companies didn't appear in the cartoon at all, such as the Autobot Whirl or some additional Insecticons.

Nowadays there's really no issue with that, specially given that Hasbro and Takara fully own the designs of those characters and manufacture any new toy together, but still it was a legal conondrum.

-Magneto is then seen having destroyed a portal, because this is comics, the story actually starts in the Utimate Fantastic Four series where the zombies were introduced, and Magneto of the zombieverse served as an ally to the displaced Ultimate Reed Richards and they built a portal to allow him and some survivors to return to the Ultimate universe, and Magneto opted to stay behind to destroy the portal to make sure the zombie plague doesn't spreads through the multiverse-

Yeah, for example, the first movie only had 5 Autobots and 7 Decepticons. The toyline had much more than that, consisting of a bunch of OCs that were either new molds that resembled the movie's aesthetic, repaints of the characters in different situations or as new characters (there was blue Optimus meant to be "empowered by the AllSpark, as well as Starscream's toy being repainted into Skywarp and Thundercracker despite them not existing in the movie), and repaints of previous lines toys that seriously clashed with the movie's aesthetic.
