Double Dash counter pick for those who cannot snake, Rainbow Road.

I'm saddened to see smash64 tourneys split half way between online and console :(

Me annd my friends went random characters/kart rule because of Barrel Train ******ry

I swear before that it was 4 Barrel Trains with a combination of Toad/Toadette/Bowser Jr/DIddy/Koopa/Paratroopa/Baby Mario/Baby Luigi

Not anymore. The frame delay REALLY bugs me. Most of the time they do 4p battle, which I can't stand. I'm an exclusive console-Karting elitist now.
It bugs me too cause they only play on block fort lol. That's like, the Hyrule of Mario Kart 64.

I played that Mr. Mario Kart guy tonight. All he does is 1v1 races though, VERY BORING, ALL TECH SKILL wut.

I'll admit, I am a MK noob, but that's because I honestly don't think MK64 is that great of a game.

It's pretty bad, actually. Very simplistic, repetitive, and once the novelty of playing an old school racing game wears off, you're left with nothing.

Mario Kart DS and Double Dash are far superior and I enjoy them much more. Snaking adds that extra tech skill that lets you get really good (kinda like z-cancelling :troll:).

Don't even get me started on the abomination that is Mario Kart Wii...

mk64 is only fun if played in the company of friends or if some form of vodka is involved. preferably both.

calling peach a ho/variety of names may actually be the one thing that never gets old ever.

i've found that lots of things are fun when combined with those things! i have this one female friend who curses like a sailor and talks so much **** when she's drunk/plays video games. never have i been told to suck a **** so many times throughout the course of a single smash match.

i prefer normal n64 to hori

preferably with modded stick
Yeah that might be better than a Hori but where, and how often do you come across those? I'll take two!!

Maybe I'm weird, but I hate controllers where one hand is lower than another.

In addition, I heard N64 control sticks go bad quickly and I don't want to keep buying controllers.
That's a little OCD of you but ok, and you've heard right, they breakdown incredibly quickly. I use a hori despite liking the original pad's button spacing more, simply because I can't stand replacing pads.
who's pumped?
Me.

gonna go post in the question forum/message firo on how to calibrate the hori properly too.
My setting's seem to finally work right, let me know if you need em, and I'll go fetch em for ya.

I dislike Battle in general and I find it annoying when that's all what people want to do. Also, yeah, Block Fort is the equivelant of Smash's Hyrule. Basically in Block Fort it's all about camping on top and hoping your opponent is below so you can hit them with the unescapable red shells that hit you from the top rather than the sides.

1v1 is okay but GP is much more fun.

So, uh, U ANY GOOD?

Mario Kart Wii is so much better than DS *runs*
I haven't played any of the handheld or old school Mario Kart titles but this is what I think:

Mario Kart DS > Mario Kart 64 > Mario Kart Wii > Mario Kart 7 (I've played it :awesome: ) > Mario Kart Double Dash!!

The only reason why I put Mario Kart Wii ahead of MKDD is because there's a lot more characters and it's more "fun" so to speak but in terms of gameplay, I think MKDD is superior. As for MK7, I think it's in the same terms as MKWii since it plays just like it, etc.

That is a perfect battle simile. The huge problem I have with battle is the frequency of stars. I swear, 75% of the time everyone's running around without the ability to hurt each other. Battle is boring and campy.

The other issue I have with Mk64 is the existence of bob-ombs in vs. mode. They add a stage hazard that is unnecessary. When you're racing competitively, it's a nuisance.

I don't really know how anyone can say Mk64 is repetitive and retro. MarioKart DS, DD, and MkWii all take the same gameplay elements with the TINIEST TWEAKS. It's like saying Ocarina of Time is outdated when (almost) every game that has followed has used the z-targeting, weapon in every dungeon, 3 dungeons to start, heart pieces, etc. etc. etc. format. If Mk64 is bad, repetitive, and retro, then the other games are too.

yes, you are right...most games are repetitive and boring.

Especially new games.

I have not enjoyed a Legend of Zelda since Ocarina of Time...and even then i preferred a link to the past :p

MK Wii sucks so many nuts. They got rid of snaking (I guess you can still do it, but nowhere close to its effectiveness in its predecessors), but the absolute worst thing is the item ****. Oh god, the item ****. I can't even begin to count the number of times I've been in first place only to be hit by three or more consecutive blue shells mere car lengths away from the finish line, while you watch helplessly as 8 other players zoom by you.

First for the entire race, finish in 10th.

The game is just not fun when you're constantly the victim of consecutive items ripping you apart multiple times each race.

There's no snaking in the upcoming Mario Kart 7 either. And yeah, that tends to happen a lot lol. IMO, you should play MKWii with a "just for fun" mindset rather than a competitive mindset. Otherwise those situations you mentioned bring you down even harder.

Yeah, the only times I do play MK Wii are for kicks. Hell, I even use the steering wheel, and it's usually with my 10-year-old sister!

But if you're ever trying to get gold on everything, it can be infuriating.

Haven't played MK7, but I don't plan on getting a 3DS anytime soon until flashcart emulation kicks off and more games are released. As it stands now, I still have so many DS games to play, and I'm slowly working my way through them...

We all secretly enjoy the chaos that is mario kart with items on aggressive setting. We simply cover up our excitement with johns.
Hah!

I guess there reaches a point when there is so much **** going on that the game actually becomes amusing. TimeSplitters 2, all explosives.

sometimes you lead for the whole match through actual skill, including (god forbid) skilful item usage, especially with bananas etc, then get buttraped by a red shell followed by a blue shell followed by a starman

yeah no, i would not keep my cool in that situation

there is no single optimal way to snake on every stage, and there are times when you don't want to snake

i would much rather a game where you have to miniturbo a lot rather than something like mkwii where you just orientate yourself and occasionally slide around a corner/do a trick

i bet you're just bad at racing games :awesome:

I'm never bad at video games. That's my thing.

I am not a big fan of racing games, though, so maybe you're onto something.

Once you get really good at MarioKart Wii, you can avoid the item **** problem through smarts and huge leads. I don't like MarioKart Wii because of all the bike and glitch abuse, the EASY NOOB BETTER BEST miniturbos, and the gimmicky "tricks".

A Link to the Past is great. I've been researching some TAS videos to try and hammer out a speed-run soon.

You can't avoid nine million blue shells that hit you once you recover from being hit by a blue shell no matter how good you are.

There aren't THAT many blue shells that it ruins the game imo. The frustration factor comes in when other items hit you on top of what the blue shells do.

If you keep a lead with bananas and green shells behind you and take sharp corners, other items don't really factor in. It's easy to get a sizable lead because the other players are busy item ****** each other, which cancels out the blue shells. If you don't have a big lead, you can always slow down and take some people with you.

Glad to see all the pages of MK talk :D and here I thought you were all DKracing fanboys...

so I went Halloween shopping at my old job, and my old manager laughs and says, "love your shirt." I, semi-confused, looked down to make sure I was wearing what I thought. I was; it was my "That ain't Falco" shirt with just the smash logo and the text underneath. She is a mother, maybe 35, and a manager at Joann Fabrics lol. I was mad surprised. Apparently she recognized the smash logo immediately, and her son (12yrs old) showed her the wombo combo before. I know... cool story bro. Anyways thought it was funny/unlikely and wanted to share.

also Ballin', I'm soOOo hype for Halloween. I'm being Nightcrawler, and the Phantom (separate occasions).
Expect pics, and video. LOTS

A lot of people who don't play Smash know about the Wombo Combo. Definitely have shouted it out in multiple classes and gotten some looks of recognition.

Lol I wish it were the case here too. People barely know about smash, so they definitely don't know the wombo combo.

What does "that ain't falco" mean by the way? I mean, why do they say that?

Because Zhu has a Falco combo video series called "Happy Feet", so after shouting out "Happy Feet" someone pointed out that "dat ain't Falco". Yeah.

^^Pretty much yea. Speaking of the Happy Feet series, I think they're all classic but Happy Feet 4 would have been sooOO sexy (more sexy) if he didn't put Soldier Boy for the second song. The fist half is damn yummy. It would have gone down in history with "Shades of Falco," and "PC for President."

***and have you seen PC for President recently- So weird seeing how different (and similar) the metagame was.

also @StarKing, if it was someone my age, or a man, I would be less surprised. I don't mean to pre-judge that way, but a going on middle age women that crochets picking up on a Tshirt wombo-combo reference is pretty rare (and I knew her and didn't see it coming lol).
