according to Alvin, Tacna ranked their players into classes last night after playing on 3 consoles from 7pm to 2:30am lol

Class A: Gerson, Alvin, Marca, Yugui

Class B: Estrada, Gustavo and he forgot the rest

then he told me that I didn't play Yugui >__>

I was playing Smash as Samus today, when my RA walks in and says "Who's playing Samus? That's not even fair."

And I'm like, "Yeah, I guess she's okay..."

"Samus is like Oddjob from James Bond."

So I guess laser ball = hat = unfair advantage?
Its weird that people always assume they know advanced things about a video game they played when they were 10. Wait I need to check something... Everyone goes for Yoshi first in Mario Kart and Mario Party right?

In Mario Kart you wanna grab Peach, Toad, or Yoshi. They all have the ability for the fast acceleration by tapping A (and the best overall speed). If you're slow and your friends grab those three, your best bet is to pick Bowser. For some reason he also has the fast acceleration ability, which is a must in 4 player. He's not as fast as those three, but no one else is either, and his size can come in handy. If you play against someone who knows the game and you pick ANYONE else, you will get demolished.

NO CLUE about Mario Party. That would be pretty interesting if there was a difference in characters. I played a Mario Party drinking game with my buddies where a mini-game win earns a shot. 50 turns of course. It works really great with people who suck because the alcoholic effects tend to even the playing field after a few turns. You just gotta be prepared to take as many as 15 shots in a night.

minigame = all losers drink
star = everyone else drinks

also peach is the best mario party character. every time you win anything you jump up, spin around and yell "YEAH! PEACHY'S GOT IT!" It will put your opponents on tilt and give you the psychological advantage.

What do you mean by "fast acceleration by tapping A?" I think I know what you're talking about but you might be talking about something else.

Yoshi and Peach are S tier. They're both clones so they have the exact same acceleration, speed, and weight (midweight). Toad has the exact same speed and acceleration as Peach and Yoshi but he's lightweight so you can arguably say he isn't as good as Peach or Yoshi.

I don't know about the other characters since I don't play them lol.

I forget. Do you tap A at the buzzer for a boost out of the starting blocks in that game? I know some Kart games have the tap while others do the charge boost.

If you time the A button press (when Lakitu is doing the countdown), you can get a boost if that's what you meant.

Yeah, I'm just trying to piece together (like you) what he meant by that "tap A for fast acceleration" bull****.

I did read that entire post in jest, though, so it might've just been bad sarcasm. :awesome:

I'm guessing that's what he meant. You don't need to tap A. If you just hit A at the right time (I guess tapping A makes it easier for people?) you can get a boost when the game starts.

The only reason why I got confused is because there's another trick that uses the same A button tapping.

Edit: actually, he mentioned Peach, Yoshi, and Toad so he is definitely talking about what I originally thought.

Diddy Kong Racing is a mans game. If you fall behind, you don't magically catch up with extra speed and amazing items.

Doesn't work with green shells and maybe the blue spiny shell but I'm leaning towards you can with the blue spiny shell.
I remember doing it once on a green shell(very tricky), maybe im just imagining it. Blue shell does the same thing Red shells do iirc, im saying yes to that as well :<

Leave it to malva to actually shut up people from the smash64 section.
I was gone for like a day, dude. Am I really on the forum so much that taking a day to respond to a post means I've been "shut up"?

one- and two-sided camping can happen on dreamland too, but one-sided camping is more likely and usually doesn't last as long because someone usually gets hit sooner.
I've never seen straight-up camping on DL that went on for more than half a minute. But I'll take your word for it as a possibility- nevertheless, it's not near as much a problem as it is on Hyrule, surely?

it depends on the matchup. if pikachu comes near the tent occupied by a camping link, does link have an advantageous defensive position? not really. the risk of getting pwned in the tent outweighs any uair advantage link may have against a GULLIBLE (XD) pikachu. Also, the person who is camping on hyrule is underneath the other player most of the time. in ssb, many characters have the advantage over another character when they are coming from above. For example, in kirby dittos on dreamland, the whole point is making sure you are on top the whole time.
So it's not broken in some matchups? Link can't camp it, but Pika can? It doesn't work for Kirby? That just means that the tiers are wedged farther apart and that people playing to win are just gonna learn fox/pika and camp the **** out of that tent.

if no character has a noticeable advantage, coming into the tent after someone has been camping it for a long time is no different then if both players entered the tent at the same time during the normal course of the battle. player A tries to hit player B and vice versa (in other words, they play ssb). if someone rushes in without thinking, they are more likely to be hit first and die from ssb's dangerous gameplay, tent or no tent.
You wouldn't say that against a skilled and careful opponent, even a well-considered approach in the tent is likely to lead to you getting pwned? That's the impression I got from, for example, your matches with Boom.

people who think the tent is broken are either not very skilled, do not understand that one player can develop better tent skills than another player, do not understand that some aspects of ssb favor some characters over others, or something something else that does not make them look very smart!

disliking the tent is different from thinking it's broken.
I'll admit that I'm not extraordinarily skilled. But even if tent-play is a game of skill (and I'm willing to admit that it is) and even if there are other situations where some characters are favored over others (of course there are) it still seems to me that the tent creates situations where it's not to the advantage of either player to approach- leading to a boring and (more importantly) broken game of stand-in-one-place-and-wait-for-the-other-guy-to-move.

I actually kinda like the tent in the normal course of play. Who doesn't love doing creative, nasty combos? But it's still broken.

Also, mad cool @ the Tacna player tier list. Who does Yugui play? 'Nother pika?

why do people like the minipad so much

it's not that great

and yeah battlecow you are on a lot
Maybe I'm weird, but I hate controllers where one hand is lower than another.

In addition, I heard N64 control sticks go bad quickly and I don't want to keep buying controllers.

The tapping A trick is to get to top speed immediately after being stopped, whether it be by your own doing (for shortcuts), getting hit by an item, or falling off the stage. Timing A at the beginning of the race is completely different.

Look at all these MarioKart NOOBS. It does work with Green Shells, or anything else. And like I said before, for some reason Bowser can do it as well.

@ Clubba: The tapping A trick renders almost all the items useless. If you lose a lead to a good player, you're not getting it back.

@Semp: MarioKart is serious business. I've tried my hand at a few world records but I keep coming up short. The online has never taken off because as bad as frame delay is in ssb, it's even worse for MarioKart. And 4p sends the game into crack a$$ crazy 100 fps mode.

@Glow: Yoshi, Toad, and Peach are all lightweights. Mario and Luigi are midweights, with Bowser, DK, and Wario rounding out the cast as heavyweights. There's no difference between Yoshi, Toad, and Peach.

@Ballin: WHY WOULD YOU PLAY A DRINKING GAME THAT GIVES YOU NO INCENTIVE TO WIN?

I was under the impression that Yoshi was the heaviest lightweight because if he starts behind someone like Bowser at the start, gets the boost and crashes into him, he won't spin-out like Toad and Peach. Or am I crazy?

well that's just how drinking games work. loser HAS TO drink. other people can drink as they please.

are you living in some world where you have to conserve alcohol so that only the winner is allowed to drink?

Halloween is a great holiday because girls dress up in rather ... um ... appealing costumes.

Yes. They'll all spin out. BUUUT if you time a jump when you collide you'll do a Blake Griffin and go flying over them. 's pretty sweet.

Haha yes. Being underage imposed its limitations, as I'm sure you know. I'm glad that's over with.

Not anymore. The frame delay REALLY bugs me. Most of the time they do 4p battle, which I can't stand. I'm an exclusive console-Karting elitist now.

You sure? I only said that because a MK64 website said that. I might be recalling wrong, though so I'll take your word for it.

Also, I'm a MK64 and MKDS (I don't own it anymore) nerd. The only competition I ever get is from Mr. Mario Kart on Kaillera. I suggest you play with him, Kys.

MKDS is a helluva fun game

10x better when other people know what they're doing, otherwise you can win just by doing miniturbos around corners with bowser >_>

Yeah, MKDS is really fun except when you play those darn ragequitters, hackers, and those laggers that seem to jump all over the place.

Snaking is key in MKDS :p

edit: I once played with a group of people in high school but I always overlapped them because of snaking and they said I was cheating and that I was a snake***. FUU
