i find it hilarious that the reedited DBZ Kai is like 1/3 as long as the original DBZ. I mean seriously, 2/3 of the show was filler.

Typical DBZ scene:

Villain: I am the most powerful being in the universe!
Piccolo: HIS POWER LEVEL IS UNBELIEVABLE
Krillin: I hope Goku gets here soon.
Vegeta: I am KING OF SAIYANS!

Vegeta tries to fight the villain and gets stomped. Suddenly Goku gets there.

Goku: I can't wait to test my strength!
Kriliin: I'm so glad Goku is here!

Goku spends 10 minutes powering up and yelling aimlessly while the villain delivers a monologue about how Goku stands no chance against him, even at his full power. Finally Goku says he's ready to fight.

Goku does a Kamehameha at the villain which blows up like 10 mountains and sends rubble and dust flying everywhere. Cue reactions shots of Krilin, Vegeta and Piccolo making grunting noises.

Krilin: I'm so glad Goku is here!
Vegeta: HOW COULD KAKAROT BE SO POWERFUL?
Piccolo: HIS POWER LEVEL IS UNBELIEVABLE

Everyone thinks the villain is dead, but after 3 minutes of the dust billowing, it finally clears and the Villain is standing there completely unharmed. Cue more reaction shots of Krilin, Vegeta and Piccolo being surprised, even though this happens every single episode.

So I hear Anime is a terrible medium, completely devoid of artistic and entertainment value.
oword? Last I checked, "Anime" is the abbreviated Japanese word for "Animation" or in other words, "animated cartoon". The definition changes in different contexts but the rule of thumb is, it's just animated cartoons. Dora The Explorer can be called an anime as well but we don't since "anime" is a word in the Japanese vocabulary so we say "cartoon". To Japanese people, anime is a blanket term for all animations around the world.

I don't care if you find Japanese animations bad but it's just a pet peeve of mine when people say "anime" and "bad" or some other word in the same sentence and they're trying to talk about just animations coming from Japan. ;)

edit: I'm probably gonna get berated for this and possibly start a pointless discussion but oh well :|

So I hear there's a generally accepted definition of "anime" in the western world and that what I said was not only clearly understandable (given context, etc.) but also correct enough that its use would be justified in any but the very most formal of settings given that the alternative would be the cumbersome "Japanese Animation" which brings up problems of its own given that not all "Japanese Animation" is necessarily what we refer to as "Anime."

Yes, "anime" is commonly associated with stuff from Japan so there's nothing confusing about using that term to a reader from the western world. I don't know why I omitted that in my original post. So other than the established "everybody in the western world knows what anime means in this context" did you understand my post or no?

As I've said, it's a pet peeve of mine. I don't expect you to understand or embrace what I'm saying but I felt compelled to say what I said.

I did understand your post. My reply makes complete sense. Your original post implied with tone and so forth that I was somehow wrong to use "anime" in the way I did. I replied justifying the usage. If it's truly just a bizarre pet peeve, and has no bearing on how you think I *should* use the word, you wouldn't have said "oword? Last time I checked..."

ITT: battlecow being an idiot

business as usual
What the **** is your problem with me? Why are there so many ****ing lunatics on the boards? Stop this. I don't know if you're autistic or what, but you come onto random threads and spew crazy insults every other day, and then never respond when I ask you why you don't like me. It makes no sense.

It's a pet peeve in the sense where I feel compelled to correct them especially when they're saying anything negative about "anime" (in the western world context). So yes, in a way I was correcting you about your use of the term anime. I think I was somewhat trying to defend "anime" by explaining the technicalities that "anime" actually refers to all animated cartoons in which makng your argument that the "anime" medium is terrible and devoid of artistic and entertainment value invalid or at least heavily contradictory.

when english speaking people say "anime" they clearly mean Japanese animation.

it's like complaining if I use the word "salsa" to describe that tomato and pepper based mexican condiment. ok, the direct translation from Spanish is "sauce", but as an English speaker you'd NEVER use "salsa" to describe a teriyaki sauce or A1 steak sauce or whatever.

So I heard Battlecow is overly intolerant of people enjoying things he doesn't, and feels the need to let people know every chance he gets for some reason.

We aren't doing "so I heard" anymore? Oh.

EDIT: So I heard Star King's dumb for responding and probably causing another unnecessary argument, and should learn to shut up.

than keep it to yourselff. everyone vs. battlecow on this redicolous anime topic is a bit much.
Except he's usually the one who begins hating with no provocation other than the mere mention of anime. So first of all, he clearly thinks he can handle being against everyone, and second of all, he's the one who should keep it to himself.

We're not flipping on Battlecow for not liking anime. He's hating on us for liking anime.

Haha, don't worry Kero, I like arguing. These guys are free to disagree as passionately as they want to. I do think that most people today have this totally wack attitude about how everything's an opinion and there's no such thing as objective bad or good.

Inb4 not-funny anecdote from Fynal.

SOZ i used to play smash at home on this old crappy windows XP that had a fan that could be heard across the house and just all around sucked. but it could play smash so w/e

it started having this problem where it would randomly not be able to run anything for no apparent reason, it couldn't even shut down, i had to press the big button on the front and restart it to get it to work again. there was no fix, believe me i tried so many times

so finally (when we bought a new mac for main house computer) i trashed that PC and replaced it with a somewhat newer, better (but still old) windows XP that never had the random-not-working problem. and ofcourse put ssb on it and kept playing. almost immediately, it crapped out, started running slow as heck, and started having the random-not-working problem.

also, a) i used a flash drive to copy the exact save version of smash from first comp to second one; b) i downloaded like nothing else as far as i know; c) both computers were in the same place using the same power cord/internet cord

TL;DR can pj64k/ssb ruin a windows XP somehow, maybe via bad copy? has anyone had this happen?

edit: trying to figure out what anecdote exactly he's expecting...
though i must say, bcow sure enjoys a good arguement

That's not exactly a good analogy, haha. I'm pretty sure I've made it clear why I said that stuff. There's no need to continue this.

Hence my conversion to My Little Pony avatars.

People should watch more Baccano if they like clever shows.

At the very least they should watch the OP.

Bleach, One Piece too.

What's the qualification? Anything mainstream or anything English Dubbed? I think the former.

bleach is an indie white man anime, since white people think watching it is cool

one piece isn't

and mainstream is hella hard to define, eg. cowboy bebop/elfen lied
