By the way, the EVO Entrants Results are in:
Smash Ultimate has the most entrants with over a staggering 3000 contestants, beating out SFV (the second most populated game) by over 1000. Some games like BBTAG and Soul Calibur 6 despite their low numbers compared to other games, are considered to have higher entrants than normal.

SFV and DBZ did suffer a drop in player base. SFV went from 2.2K down to 1.9K, however DBZ suffered a much larger loss, going from the most popular game at 2.5K to bottom three at 1.1K

Other wise, EVO is still getting larger. Aside from BBTAG and Soul Calibur, every game is past the 1,000 mark, which considered very strong by tournament standards.

Oh man that’s a lot of people! Still sad to see marvel gone, but I mainly only watched smash anyway.

I just hope the smash community doesn’t have something embarrassingly stupid happen again, like crab throwing, drunken fistfights, etc.

From what I remember reading, Starling meant "Small Star", which can be attributed to Geno. Though it being a European bird is a good point to consider. It's likely unrelated. Also, a lot of these hints seem to be "big", so a costume is doubtful even if it were Geno-related.

I could see August happening, but September seems far too late, and there's no reason to suspect Hero would release in the same month as DQ 11--having them in Smash before is advertising enough, gives people the time to fall in love with the character and pre-order.

Curious for those thinking Hero's in September, how you think the timing window will be for the rest? Seems like it would be back loaded. Banjo would be late November/early December at the latest, #4 and #5 in Dec/Jan Jan/Feb? I would have suspected they are nearly done with #2 and #3, and would already be starting work on #4 and #5 by now.

It’s the Tales Of Series (as a whole). Symphonia is but one entry, the one Lloyd came from. Velvet is from Berseria

Lloyd did have a Mii Costume in 4, and he has like at least a 50% chance of being playable this time around, plus Symphonia debuted on the GameCube. Yuri’s another choice since he’s currently the most popular tales character and Vesperia has its Definitive Edition on Switch now

Yeah, a September release seems WAY too late. Remember, Joker came out during Spring, Hero, I'm thinking, will come out some time around August or near the end of July, and Banjo will come around Fall. All we actually NEED to talk about is who will the last two characters be. (And don't give me the Chorus Kids cliché or anything like that, because it isn't happening.)

If we ever do get a third Capcom character, i’ll Be really interested in what they pick. Resident Evil is Capcom’s third pillar franchise, but doesn’t really overlap with Nintendo and Smash’s fan base all that much. Ace Attorney was huge on the GBA and NDS, but has never really been a top seller. Monster Hunter is a huge seller AND big on Nintendo platforms specifically, but Sakurai has never done a 100% customizable avatar character. From what I understand, Robin and The Hero have defaulted appearances and abilities (which Smash is mostly based on). Monster Hunter doesn’t have anything like that to my knowledge. (Of course, you could be like Arlo who thinks you’ll be able to customize everything about said hypothetical Monster Hunter just like the games, but I doubt Sakurai would put forth the resources for something like that. All the different weapons would need to balance with each other and each version would have a completely different place in the meta and you could probably make one that’s super OP and it would technically be like, 12 characters in one..... I just don’t see it happening like that.

The Hunter actually does have a default, the most popular and notable appearance they use for the character is them in their Rathalos armor which is the one used the most in advertising and merchandising:

This is solidified ever further with MvCi and Smash, the former of which has the female hunter use her Rathalos armor as the default while Smash gave the armor set (and the regular Hunter armor) out as purchasable DLC. So just like Robin or Corrin, if the character was in the game they'd likely go for the Rathalos armor with any other sets being alts.

From what I understand, September is sometimes considered a part of Summer in Japan, though someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong there. With that said I doubt we'll get the character that late since that would push their DLC release schedule back a substantial amount. Plus I don't think the character needs to be released so close to DQXIS as Jon predicts since the character can still advertise the game even two months out.

Not that I recall. He did post an image of blue crab leading up to the February Direct (which was suspected to have been a hint for Link's Awakening). He also posted images that hinted at Banjo and Kazooie though the bird-bear duo was hinted at for a long time by other insiders and not just him.

Most teasing about a Dragon Quest representative in Smash came from Tansut, a ResetERA user who is known to have a Square-Enix source when he previously dropped a tease for Cloud in the Smash 4 days.

Personally, I would see the bird as a general direct hint than a Smash hint.

If I'm supposed to take it literally, Corviknight is the first thing I thought of.

If it's supposed to represent someone, then I have no clue. Most of the characters who would fit are either a huge stretch (and that includes Geno) or someone who isn't even a video game character.
