There is actually plenty to go off of for him. He is a fencer since school so that can be one of his standard attacks, He also fights with metal pipes and swords so those are things he can also used. He can easy make **** out of anything like a hanglider out of globe parts and I believe a sheet and a mother****ing coin machine gun from slot machines. Trust me, the games and Lady Layton anime explored how well Layton kicks ***
I'm fine as long as he's not a swordfighter only. It doesn't fit the character well. I've played diabolical box. I saw the cutscene. It doesn't work well except for then. Maybe a small amount, but WTF Lady Layton anime what the heck?

Wait that's a meme?
It might as well be at this point, considering the countless times Sakurai has subverted expectations with characters people thought he would draw a blank with.

Eitherway, there is a lot to work with the various puzzles, gadgets, animal buddies, that's even if you don't count his fencing skills.
He can make use of weapons such as a slot machine gun, a sleep bomb, a town catapult and hand glider among various other things. There should be more than enough to pull from for a fun and unique moveset for the prof.

Well he is a fencer, so hes kinda gonna be anyway but in the anime he kicks and stuff but he is still a Fencer
And I just say Lady Layton anime because typing Layton detective agency takes too long

You could make a moveset with Layton if you really wanted to, but I feel like it'd have to revolve around puzzles - something you could do with a character from virtually any puzzle game.
Sakurai could find a way, He did put in Mana and spells in with DQ and Jokers Persona

That Slot Machine Gun will forever be the best thing ever

Any character can have a great moveset in the right hands.

Even a Metroid could have a great moveset if done properly.

There isn’t any videogame character with a lack of moveset potential since everyone can work if done properly.

ok but in all seriousness
i know she's impossible in about 99,999 out of every 100,000 timelines
but she could have a good moveset
Not that I want Zoe in Smash, but...

I'd really enjoy a character with a moveset full of super "girlie" stuff, without being an actual magical princess. I guess I'll wait for that Style Savvy rep.

I already have her Final Smash.

Imagine Yoshi's Final Smash except instead of a plain, it's in a shopping mall, and instead of a stampede of Yoshis, it's a stampede of teenage girls.

I didn’t say it was impossible, I just said they’re have to get creative. It just seems like pulling moves out of nowhere would be more justified for first party characters than third party ones. Like I feel a third party should be representing their game in more than name alone. There should be some sort of puzzle aspect in Layton’s moves somewhere.

Closest character I had in mind for something like that was Mona from WarioWare, though I don’t think she counts since I have in mind that she’d basically be :ultisabelle: to Wario’s :ultvillager:, and her moves would encompass all of her jobs and such...

I believe that's what his playstyle will mostly revolve around. Whenever Sakurai design's a character, he usually looks at the main gameplay aspects of their series, and works around a moveset with that in mind. F-Zero for example is all about high speed, high risk and high reward. Which is how Captain Falcon's moveset is mainly designed after.

If Sakurai where to design Layton. He would mostly focus on the puzzle aspect. For example, in regards to the Sleep bomb. Its original puzzle was to navigate it through various panels towards an open vent. So if Layton where to use that move. It would involve him shooting a sleep bomb out, and then you will be able to navigate the bomb at a 90 degree angle towards your opponent. (Much like with Snake's side special and Ness's up special) That way you can subvert their expectations and syke them out by quickly changing its direction (as they prepare to shield or counter) and have it move over and towards their back.

Another example would be Layton shooting three arrows towards his opponents. However, two of them are fake while one is real. (As based off some of the puzzles found in the second game) While the player can choose which of these arrows is real. This would be another way to trick your opponent, especially when it comes to edge guarding and messing up their recovery.

Essentially, his moveset would revolve around making his opponents think two steps ahead in regards to what his next move would be and having to plan accordingly. Much like how it more or less is in his own series.

I highly doubt that Sakurai would just slap a sword on Layton and call it a day.

I just remembered that the current publisher of the Crash Bandicoot series in Japan is SEGA.

And Konami was involved with the GBA games and Wrath Of Cortex in the past too.

Make of that what you will, since it may mean nothing at worst.

Wait hold up.

Rare said Nuts & Bolts isn’t a direct sequel, meaning that it is its own universe or something. This means that it’s basically non-canon to the main story.

Just a quick reminder that just because the topic is slow doesn't mean posts are necessary.

In addition. "MFW"(My Face When) posts are also spam. So are one-word posts. Please try to contribute meaningfully.

If you had asked me about PP before his reveal, I would've told you it had a ton of moveset potential. It's his status as a generic Mario enemy that would've made me doubt it.

Anyways, while I agree that you can make just about anyone work in Smash if you tried, I don't think all characters are equally capable of getting in Smash. That's what I've concluded after seeing PP get in before Waluigi and Geno. It's not that Sakurai can't make either of them work, but maybe they don't have that moveset that pops out to him the way PP did.

One of the first movesets I made for your general enemy was Slime. A lot of it is based around how easily it can create appendages with its slime itself. The rest was focused on monster abilities~

But yeah, I also never believed being a generic enemy mattered. Or a species/race. Pokemon told me that as is. Never felt like a single tangible difference to me. Didn't remotely matter that one was lightly inspired by the anime at some point(though that's only like... 6 out of 10 of them anyway?), as they were just as generic as the rest of the monsters in games. They just could "say their name", which changed little for me. PP came out of nowhere for me because I wasn't really expecting another Mario character besides Toad or Waluigi at best, the last major remaining ones.

There was a problem fetching the tweet

Dyllybirdy Dyllybirdy It's amazing how quickly I got used to Zelda with short hair.

Still hanging on with Ryu Hayabusa as my most likely pick. Strider Hiryu has being a part of Capcom going for him, but that's as far as it goes.

But I do want Impa as the next Zelda rep.

After piranha plant I don't know why this isn't clear to everyone LOL
I think it has to do with people seriously underestimating how much materials a character has to go off of. Piranha Plant definitely is a good example of that, considering how many variations exist. Wouldn't be a surprise for this to continue with characters like Phoenix Wright or Professor Layton.

If the speculation scene existed as far back as before Melee, :gawmelee: would probably be treated similarly.

ok hot take time
Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts wasn't a bad game
it was just a bad sequel
Y'know how Street Fighter X Tekken had bad box art Megaman? It was supposed to be a tongue-in-cheek joke, but since Megaman fans hadn't gotten anything in years, it was just salt in the wound
Nuts and Bolts was the same kind of deal

I would love if the last two went something like these:

>Crash/Doomguy
>Crash/Hayabusa
>Crash/Jill
>Crash/Layton
>Crash/Dante

I wish I could agree or even disagree, but I can’t comment about Nuts & Bolts since I don’t own any Xbox and thus I’m unable to play Nuts & Bolts to form an opinion.

Insulting the fanbase aside, I just found the game boring to be honest.

Where ya headed, out of curiosity?
To some holidays.

Since he can only use the internet at high school most of the time, he’ll be unable to go online until August.

Although hopefully Goth comes to a cool place for some weeks.
