So I know a bunch of you now don’t believe Sabi for some unknown reason, even though Sakurai literally verified their claim that hardly anyone knows the character and it would be very easy to narrow down who leaked it if it was fully leaked, and they have been on point with other non-Smash gaming leaks as well, but I think it’s worth posting this anyway:

Would you look at that, someone just had to go and give me hope for Metroid again. It’s so much easier when I can just assume nothing is going to happen with it, instead of having to face crushing disappointment again and again.

Well Sabi is Sabi, and often best kept at a distance, but Zippo, who made the Metroid claim beforehand, did get vetted and verified by the resetera mods.

To be fair Zippo hasn't been the first to make the claim either, but he seems the most reliable atm.

Bro there's a game in development right now
Yeah, but that’s like 2021 at the earliest, but more likely 2022, because of course things couldn’t go smoothly for it. I also have a preference for the 2D games, and if this is Metroid 5, as seems to be the case with its relation to Fusion, then it’s been 18 years coming.

I do tend to get a bit frazzled when it comes to Metroid, but I can’t help it, it’s the one game series where my feelings just get the better of me.

Guess who was talking about a new Metroid a year ago?

And he actually got most of this right, as far as I can tell.

Had a conversation earlier about this with a friend that shared the same cynicism/reasonable skepticism, mainly directed towards some of the other 'leaks' that happened prior having similarities to these new claims (not just Vergeben/Sabi/the usual "into the trash it goes" sources). I'll spare the fluff, but still bring up the exact statement that left us feeling like it's far too good to be true.

While I'm normally on the boat that any Metroid news is good Metroid (still waiting on my Dark Samus amiibo to arrive next week), and am content with waiting as long as we need to for 4/Prime Trilogy on Switch, I feel predisposed to think Nintendo would sooner port the likes of Other M and/or Federation Force to Switch before they'd actually continue the canon/non-interquel story, much less care about Metroid being a big seller/"relevant" franchise.

Obviously I'd like it to be successful (wish Samus Returns would have done better/potentially gotten a re-release on Switch), same with a lot of these rumored things (been holding my breath for that new Wario also mentioned above in that Verg post). But it feels lucky enough to even have things like Ridley/DS in Smash, Metroid Prime 4 not having been completely cancelled, etc., and the thought of arguing over whether the new style for 2D games makes it worse by default than the traditional style ones (art style, control scheme, difficulty/plot, and so on) makes that cloud of doubt loom even greater. After all, no one hates Metroid more than Metroid fans.

All said, waiting and seeing is all we can do anyway, so not something I'd be particularly angry about if it bore no fruit. That and I feel the Paper Mario portion of that stands to be more justifiably upset over what does/doesn't happen since a "return to form" is much more clamored for there. Plus, at least Metroid gets games, unlike certain other sci-fi Nintendo series

I can see a Paper Mario happening this year. It fits within the line of releases pretty well.

It being a return to form? Well, one can only hope. I feel like that's gonna be a revealed at like E3, though, given the potential hype that would have.

And a new Metroid is definitely plausible.

Tbf these aren't really bold claims beyond PM going back to the good ol' days, and even that's something you can make as a hopeful prediction.

A new 2D Metroid is definitely something I'm looking forward to and think has a strong chance of happening this year. A return to form Paper Mario? It's possible but I'm not betting on it.

I've heard some rumours of that potential "new Paper Mario" being a remake of the first one.
Wouldn't mind it. Color Splash was peak visual Paper Mario design, and if they remake the first one that's a catalyst for a TTYD remake that will have every nintendo fan in their 20s under the sun do one of these.

I almost want to study this cultural phenomenon.

I’d rather they do a remaster collection. Considering fans have been able to make both games look so much better with MODS, I think Nintendo can easily remaster both together. I know I’d be more likely to buy a collection then both on their own.

Really? I’ve been figuring for the last year that Metroid 5 is inevitable, and even more so now. They set up the lore for it as the 100% bonus for Samus Returns. Verge said it before E3 last year, and now we got Zippo and Sabi saying it.

Next Direct or E3 I think.

Paper Mario is the one I’m more skeptical on.

I will Say it again and again till it happens. Freddy Fazbear Mii Costume with a remix of this as the song.

Listen to it at like, 1.25 speed for an idea of how I see it being made appropriate for battle.

I'd be mad if the PM remake was of TTYD and not the original, which actually is somewhat outdated.
TTYD is much harder to play on actual hardware, though. I personally would much prefer TTYD get rereleased first because N64 is most likely coming NSO this year and will probably have Paper Mario 64 on it.

That's just me, though.

Where as GameCube on NSO feels like a long shot at best.

Wait..... what if MS partnered with Nintendo to bring Rare’s Nintendo back catalogue to NSO. And that’s why we don’t have DKC yet!?!

I don't know you seem to disagree with yourself.

Besides, the rumor says "back to roots" and another implies a remake of one of the two original games.
Just 'cause I don't believe it doesn't mean that I wouldn't want to be wrong, lol. That would imply that I want classic Paper Mario to be dead, which I don't. :p

It's a rumor. I don't see any reason personally to get excited just yet, but that's only for me, y'all can feel how you want! I'm not telling anyone what to do, just sharing my thoughts.

A PRE-OWNED copy at gamestop is fifty bucks. On Amazon it can be as high as a hundred. For USED copies of a GAMECUBE game!
I got mine at a GameStop for 5 bucks like 8 years ago lol.

I also got Metroid Prime, Wario World, and Path of Radiance for around 3 bucks each at the same store within a few years of each other.

That’s what happens with old games. Especially as discs have a tendency to stop working after a long time.

Honestly why the **** do people use that thread and think it’s some great place.

It’s a **** hole and has some of the most toxic members of the site. You could ban them all and it would still do nothing as more would keep coming.

It’s literally the Worst part of the site and why I refuse to post there
ban everybody on Smashboards

Oh yeah, and I'm not getting my hopes up for Metroid either. Insiders make any random Metroid claim every year. Still waiting on that Prime Trilogy HD.

And they'll say it for next Direct. And the next one. And the next one. And the next one. And the next one...
