Year of Yoshi seems obvious, yet why do I get the impression all y'all are gonna be blindsided by it when it gets announced? :yoshi:
Because 2015 didn’t bring the year of Bullet Bill. The BEST Mario character.

Nothing is sacred, Lizard man.

Look all I’m saying is if they don’t make mix and match action figures of Dracozolt, Dracovish, Arctozolt and Arctovish with detachable pieces it’s a huge missed opportunity.

Because 2020 is actually the year of Poochy.

That's right, Poochy becomes Nintendo's biggest star!

Wouldn't that work better if we knew what the actual Pokemon look like?

Does shiny Sobble even exist?

I don’t know anymore.

Anyway Stickerbrush Symphony is the goat but In a Snowbound Land and Hothead Bop are bops.

The word bop is in the name.

Listening to music on 90s on 9 on SiriusXM at home for the New Year's. Man, did the 90s have great music or what?

I just want to stop being lazy and get back to practicing Japanese. Not even close to professional with it, but it takes so much time to remember everything that I get discouraged from trying. I'll probably be excellent at it in a few years and wonder what I was doing, not guaranteed, but I'll try.

Since Dracozolt and Dracovish attach to opposite ends of the Draco- middle portion, it’d be easy to create the ultimate meta game destroying monstrosity, Dracovishzolt.

(Realistically speaking, if Pokémon’s deal with Mega Construx continues, we might actually get this eventually BTW)

5 hours until New Years here.

I wish everyone a happy new decade.

It's been a long-ass decade full of highs and lows, but we've made it through it in one piece, and I wish you all the best going forward.

I've finished my list of games that were really important to me this decade. I hope you enjoy the read!

When I saw SMG for the first time, I thought it looked stupid actually. "Why is Mario flying about in space with stars surrounding him?" I thought. But then I tried a demo for the second one at EBgames (Canadian GameStop), and let me tell you, this game completely blew my expectations out the window.

This was my first 3D Mario experience, and it was simply amazing. The controls, the music, the sound direction as a whole, the worlds, everything. A little after playing the demo, I got the full game, and playing through it was an experience I'll never forget.

I won't lie, when I first saw this game, I wasn't interested. The main reason why? It's a shooter, and if there was one thing I didn't like, it was shooter games.

But all that changed when I actually got the game. I was first convinced it could be a fun time when I watched the Direct focused on the game, but when I actually played it I was blown away.

The gameplay is fast paced and fluid, and you feel right at home if you're familiar with 3D platformers. As a Smash fan, part of what makes the game so appealing is how it's actually similar to Smash in a major way.

Smash is essentially a 2D platformer mixed with a fighting game, and Splatoon is a 3D platformer mixed with a shooter. Like Smash, this makes the game way makes accessible to genre newcomers, with it's gameplay feeling familiar and easy to get into.

The weapons themselves are easily one of the best elements of this game. They're all fun to play with, and have some wacky designs that make them feel like their own characters. Each class of weapon has a distinct gameplay style, with different weapons within said class behaving differently. For example, a Splat Roller has good all-around attributes, being able to roll at a good speed and can fling ink at close range targets for strong damage. Switch to the Dynamo Roller, and you get an abysmally slow rolling speed but can fling ink that not only boasts amazing strength, but also ridiculously good range that allows you to pressure far away opponents.

The music is another reason I love this game so much. It's quite unique with it's gibberish vocals, which may not be for everyone (personally, I really enjoy them as they add lots of personality to the music), but the tunes themselves are just so strong that you can't but love them. Be it story mode or multiplayer battles, these songs are just so catchy, and the rock style of the battle themes never gets old. The music is so distictly Nintendo, and it's part of why I love their games so much.

The game also received numerous post launch updates, with brand new weapons releasing every week and new stages roughly every month. This kept players coming back for more, as there was always new content to play and look forward to, and these updates were all completely free of cost.

I played this game during troubling times in life, and it helped me to stay positive and see the bright side of things. The feeling of new content arriving for the game was about as exciting as a new Smash character reveal! I will always love this game, and I hope it remains a staple Nintendo franchise going forward.

This game is fantastic. I love the classic 2D Sonic games (mainly 3 and Knuckles) and Mania is a brilliant return to form for the series.

It takes the fluid and extremely satisfying gameplay from the Genesis games, only it's even better now thanks to Christian Whitehead's Retro Engine, a refined version of the classic gameplay engine used in the mobile releases of Sonic 1 and 2.

Pair solid controls with fantastic level design, music and visuals, and you get a fantastic love letter to not only Sonic, but Sega in general that manages to prove that Sonic can still be one of the best platformers out there.

The brand new levels were an absolute joy to play, with amazing original tunes by Tee Lopes. For example Studiopolis, one of these new levels, has to be the best "casino" level in the entire series with stunning visuals, fantastic music and great level design.

The game is mostly comprised of worlds from previous Sonic titles (1, 2, 3&K, and CD), however these returning zones are just as well designed as the new ones with numerous changes from their original counterparts, and many of these zones are rebuilt from the ground up. Notable set pieces from levels that didn't make it into the game find their home in similarly themed levels that did make the cut. Examples include Green Hill using Sonic 2's corkscrews previously seen in Emerald Hill, Flying Battery using the numerous set pieces and enemies originally found in Sonic 2's Wing Fortress and so on.

I love Sonic Mania as you can probably tell, and I could talk about it for hours. However I think I've said enough about it now, but the last thing I will say is to play it for yourself if you like 2D platformers at all. It's that good!

These are probably my favorite Pokemon games ever, and for a number of reasons.

First off, the main campaign. It expands upon the Unova region from the first Black and White with new areas, new Gyms, and expanded Pokedex containing Pokemon from other regions across the series, as opposed to the first BW which only had brand new Pokemon. This adds more variety to team building, and spices up a familiar region with "new" faces to keep things interesting.

These games introduced the Pokemon World Tournament, or PWT for short. In the PWT, you battle in a tournament which includes familiar faces from across the series, such as Champions and Gym Leaders. It's a fun challenge that keeps you coming back for more, and while it may not be expansive as Battle Frontier from previous games, there's still fun to be had here.

Now, I'd like to talk about Gen V (BW, B2W2) as a whole and why I enjoy it so much. The gameplay engine is greatly improved over Gen IV (DP, Platinum, HGSS), with the games being much faster paced both on the overworld and in battle. This makes the game significantly more enjoyable to play, especially for repeat playthroughs, whereas Gen IV was very slow to play with unnecessarily long battle animations, slow text speed and slow movement on the overworld.

Another highlight of Gen V is reusable TMs. A series first, you can now teach your Pokemon moves with TMs as many times as you want, providing much less of a headache trying to decide who to teach a good move too. This vastly improves the playing experience ensures that you can always have optimal moves on your team.

All of this is neatly packaged in a familiar yet fun Pokemon adventure makes for a solid entry that you can't go wrong with. The story does take place after the first Black and White, so I'd recommend playing them first (they're solid games as well), but the story itself isn't as prominent in these games, so it isn't necessary to play BW first unless you want the story to make a little more sense.

Overall, these games are my favorite in the series, and I return to them numerous times and always have a blast. Whether trying out new teams, or randomizing the game for even more fun (and nonsense), Black 2 and White 2 are Pokemon at it's best.

SSBU is probably the finest Smash game to date. The gameplay is fast paced, but not too fast so it's still accessible to anyone, 100+ stages gives a ton of variety and keeps you comimg back for more, and then there's the fighters.

Everyone is here! All fighters from past Smash Bros. games, alongside new ones is huge for this series. No longer is anyone disappointed that their favorite character was cut, and most characters received a multitude of changes making familiar faces feel new again.

The new characters, while there wasn't a ton of them at launch, are all great picks and appeal to a variety of people.

Inkling, who was my most wanted during the Smash 4 DLC cycle, made it in albeit unsurprisingly, considering the success of Splatoon but it was still a very exciting reveal nonetheless.

We got highly requested fan favorites who were thought to be impossible like Ridley, King K. Rool and Banjo-Kazooie, all in the same game which is still crazy to think about. We got Castlvania in Smash, a legendary franchise that also had high fan demand. It got not one but two characters, a ton of music with lots of remixes, and an awesome stage.

SSBU is also the most balanced Smash game to date, with pretty much every character being buffed and no single best character in the game.

This game is the most fun I've had with Smash since Brawl (no offense to Smash 4, that game was solid too), and with even more characters, stages, and music on the way will continue to grow and provide more enjoyment.

Smash 4

This was the first speculation scene I was ever a part of, and it was quite a ride. I still remember losing my **** when I saw Duck Hunt in the ESRB leak, a character I didn't know I wanted until then. Seeing Ness's redesign in that leak was also amazing, as the finally made him cartoonier and removed the color in his eyes.

As for the game itself, the standout feature for me was Custom Moves and Equipment.
These added a whole new layer to Smash for me, as farming Crazy Orders for the best Equips to use in custom modes (I can go into more detail about these in another post if you want) was a huge time sink. The feeling of finally getting a Critical Hitter Brawn Badge was one of the best moments I've had playing Smash.

Persona 5

This is a game I wanted since it first came out despite never playing the series before. The artstyle is fantastic, and the game is a ton of fun to play. The combat system is like a harder version of Pokemon, but the overall presentation of the battles makes them as fun to watch as they are to play, something I feel Pokemon has struggled with recently.

I haven't finished the game yet as I've only just gotten it a few months ago, but I already love it and it will likely go down as one of my favorite RPGs ever.

Mario Kart 8

This game get a mention more for how I felt about it prerelease then actually playing it. This was the most excited I've ever been for a video game in my life, as Mario Kart is responsible for making the Nintendo gan I am today. Anti-gravity was mind blowing to me, and the return of gliding and underwater racing was also cool since I hadn't played MK7.

Retro tracks being rebuilt from the ground up and actually feeling new was huge, and speculating which tracks would return was tons of fun. The retro tracks also had brand new remixes with live instruments, rather than simply being enhanced versions of the original tunes.

The soundtrack on general is a big highlight for me, as a live soundtrack was a series first, and it sounded amazing. I have many fond memories listening to or just humming the music from the game.

This game's prerelease was one of the happiest times whole in my life, and for that this game holds a special place in my heart.

So those are some of my favorite games of the decade! There's not a whole lot of games, but I did enjoy them a lot and I think that's what matters most.

Splatoon devs love hinting things but I highly doubt Splatoon 3 is gonna be on the Switch, so I'm leaning towards a fun New Years message.

Unless...? HMMMMMMMM
