No BotW 2 was my only real gripe with it.

bravely second is a direct sequel to bravely default and has always meant to be a part of the original story from the beginning, there's a literal teaser for the sequel at the end of the game and it didn't come out for like 3 years-ish? after default
bravely default 2 is a new addition to the bravely series with a new plot and characters
imagine it like final fantasy. final fantasy 7 and final fantasy 7 advent children and final fantasy 7 dirge of cerberus and all that are linked together, but final fantasy 8 is its own world and stuff

Like, all my speculation that I was riding on for the last 4 weeks now got blown out of the water tonight. I'm personally okay with tossing leaks out and starting speculation over, but that's just me.

Going into the game awards, they literally never said **** about who it was, nor did they ever pin a release. Hell, Jon-not a leaker was hinting at it.
