Earlier today, I decided to listen to some Shin Megami Tensei music even though I've never been into the series before. I started out with the main battle theme of the first game, pretty nice tune for something that was on the Super Famicom. Then I looked up one of the official remixes...

He’s shorter than Mario.

He has no legs.

He’s 2-dimensional.

He could use a hammer, those origami-like moves in TTYD, papercraft, and the unique items from the series. Maybe even bring party members along.
Extra Models. Party members, oragami, and papercraft are all extra models. It’s way more work for a character who doesn’t need it.

So what is this, some kind of anti-Paper Mario phase that came out of the blue? Did a Paper Mario N64 cartridge come to your door with a baseball bat?

Why are you so determined to have Paper Mario be a Mario echo when it’s obvious he’d be unique? To the point of ridiculousness?
Paper Mario obviously unique.

Like how Miles Morales has to be a separate fighter then Spider-Man in MvC.

He’s Mario with a modifier. Just because you want him to be unique, doesn’t mean he needs to be.

They wouldn’t put in the character then. They aren’t going to make him a clone that makes no sense just to have him in the game. This isn’t the Melee days lol.

Also, paper models wouldn’t be significantly time consuming to develop. If they’re like G&W, they would be very flat, probably not have responsive lighting, and little expressiveness/detailed rendering. They would probably just be a flat model with 2D textures.

But that’s what he is.

He’s a unique character with unique powers. It doesn’t matter if I want him to be unique, that’s what he is.

The only one trying to twist reality to fit their agenda is you.

Stop. Just. Stop. You haven't played the game, why are you even carrying this on?

I’ve never liked the idea of Paper Mario as a unique fighter. He’s need a new model for basically every move that way, be it a partner or a transformation, which is a lot of extra work for a character who could be fine without them.

And yeah, it is kind of out of the blue. I was just thinking about potential newcomers and PM came to mind.

Each character gets a lot of work, and it’d be weird for him to have the same moves as regular Mario without even representing his own series. I don’t think the extra models would be a problem, it wouldn’t be harder than the other stuff the devs have done.

I can’t think of any Paper Mario moveset that would be more time consuming and work to develop than G&W, who also has unique models and forms. They wouldn’t force a clone moveset on a character that literally doesn’t fit the body, that would probably be MORE work.

He kind of needs to be or else you'll just ruin the character.

:ultdarksamus: being a :ultsamus: clone despite her not having much of her abilities is disappointing, but it isn't crazy to assume her doing such things is impossible. It doesn't ruin the character, it just leaves out the unique abilities she had (like duplication and phazon).

Paper Mario breakdancing like Mario's downsmash? ****ing impossible, he's stuck on a 2D plain like :ultgnw:.

which is a lot of extra work for a character who could be fine without them.
You could say that about literally anyone on the roster.

You'd have a hard time explaining why Paper Mario is an Echo of Mario when he's literally made of paper. The weight difference alone would make him unique, as he'd easily be one of the lightest characters in the game.

And that's not even covering how weird it'd be for him to have Mario's specials. FLUDD?!

Now, I haven’t played Banjo Kazooie in any capacity. But Banjo & Kazooie would definitely be Duck Hunt’s echo.

Sure they’re incredibly unique from Duck Hunt in almost every conceivable way, but that’d take too much time to develop. They share very basic similarities, make em an echo.

Not everyone is too jazzed about three Links that have a ton of similarities between them, do you really think people would like a Mario who’s praised for his uniqueness in his series (which you admitted you have no experience of) and reduce him to Smash Mario’s third clone? Fourth if you count Luigi?

I always wanted a bit of a prequel of XC1 with Dunban adventures with Mumkhar and Dickson. They never really did explain how Dunban figured out that he could wield the Monado, he just does. Like it was the sword in stone and everyone was lining up to pull it from the pedestal and King Arthur just shows up out of nowhere.
I'd appreciate anything that explores the relationship between Dunban and Mumkhar more than what little the game gave us. Would've made the "big reveal" a lot more meaningful if we actually got to see more of their adventures before the Battle of Sword Valley.

Yeah, Mumkhar had a lot of untapped potential in expanding his character. From what Dunban said, he seemed to be a legitimately good guy who turned bad because of the greed of wanting the Monado. Maybe he got it to work slightly one time and he got obsessed ever since? Maybe he's just like every good guy gone bad and jealous of Dunban having the spotlight because that's literally the explanation given on valak mountain? I don't know, maybe they'll touch it in the remaster.

When did I say I’d never played Paper Mario?
The fact that you never answered our million dollar question asked numerous times made us assume you haven't

Even making Paper Mario a semi-clone would be difficult. His height and body proportions are nothing like regular Mario's. Kicks would be hard, considering how Paper Mario lacks legs.

But I'll stop here, because I feel like everyone's sort of jumping on Snake for having an opinion. It's an opinion I strongly disagree with, but one Snake is entitled to regardless.

Luigi: Spinny move, floating fireball, strong uppercut with strict timing.

Ryu: Spinny move, floating fireball, strong uppercut with strict timing.

Ryu would be nothing but a Luigi clone!

You should try r/ pokemontrades

It’s where I got most of my trading done. Really helpful subreddit. Just make sure to put your switch fc in your flair.

Idk. To me, Paper Mario is one of those characters like Daisy, Dark Samus, or Dixie Kong. They don’t need to be unique. People just want them to be.
No **** we'd want Paper Mario to be a unique fighter. He's an RPG character at his core.
