Just finished watching the first two episodes of The Mandalorian. I'm a huge Fett/Mandalorian fan, but with how so much of Star Wars has been handled the past few years, I was hesitant to watch the show until I heard feedback about it. Especially since I've been hearing about it for years and years, so it taking so long to come out is a warning sign. But everything I've heard about it has been glowing, so I got to watch it today.
It was excellent. If you like Star Wars, it's a blast. There's plenty of nods to established Star Wars lore and content, but it doesn't depend on or get bogged down by it. If you like action/adventure shows in general, it's also fantastic. The main character is a badass, but he's not invincible. The action is great and well-directed. The production values are top notch for a TV show, you can really see the Star Wars money being put to good use. There's also one other element that I won't spoil, though you've probably seen/heard of it by now, and it's way better than you'd ever expect.
They're also not doing the Netflix binge strategy and are releasing episodes one at a time each week, which I love, because it allows for there to be time for discussion and for the show to linger in the public consciousness and be discussed for months. With Netflix's stuff, the shows come out, are talked about for a week, maybe two, and then pass through public discussion almost entirely.
If you have even a passing interest, I'd recommend it. But, it is only the first two episodes. There's always a chance that things could get stupid towards the end and it winds up being disappointing. However, I noticed that Dave Filoni (the guy responsible for a lot of the good things to come out of The Clone Wars show) and Jon Favreu (director of Iron Man 1 and 2, plays Happy Hogan in the MCU) are the two main producers on the show, so I have some confidence that it's in good hands.
