I feel the opposite, to be honest.

"We have too many FE reps", "who should be our new Zelda rep", "Kirby needs a new rep", "what about retro reps" arguments makes me sick at this point.

At least in third parties, we can talk about characters and series themselves instead of what would represent what. And it's mostly uncharted territory, so I we don't have to sit through the same arguments for same six characters again and again.

(Also, it's not like people doesn't talk about new Nintendo releases and which character they could bring to Smash, which are both first party and something new.)
Yeah people talk about Nintendo but it's only to the SwSh/Astral Chain/TH extent and nothing beyond that like Rhythm Heaven which I would totally love to get a rep and other unrepresented franchises or characters. People talk about Nintendo characters but only like the 1% of them instead of the other 99% out there. Spirits most likely don't matter so why not?

I guess most people are sick of all that talk nowadays but from where I stand we need a bit of that sprinkled in with the 3rd party discussions as well I would love for a perfect mix of both 3rd party talk and 1st party talk like during the base game days (based off of my experience). I find discussing new Nintendo franchises being added in to be interesting and discussing retro reps is fun too these characters balance out the mostly gritty/realistic/"anime" styles 3rd parties bring with fun and charming cartoony designs and I love the mix of both.

Sure some talking points are overdone to the point of death but the mix of both makes things more free from my view point it's not like we'll revert completely back to just 1st party talk as most of the characters people want are Assist Trophies (Waluigi/Isaac/Skull Kid/Ashley/Etc.) but it makes things more free for characters like Chorus Kids or other unrepresented 1st party franchises that only have spirits and based off of the recent FP I don't think people are dumb enough to not realize we'll still be getting at best a healthy mix of both to mostly 3rd parties/1st parties at worst.

I thought you were German? Am I remembering that right or am I a crazy person.
Nope, I'm from Turkey. Being able to go from Europe to Asia and then back in an hour is the only upside of living in İstanbul.

Because unrepresented Nintendo franchises probably won't be getting any newcomers. Just look at the base game. Third parties are our best shot at getting new series.

Company of origin don't have much to do with designs. Akira Howard and Edelgard are Nintendo characters and Crash is a third party, for example.

I mean, you can still talk about them if you want. But most remaining contenders kinda pale in comparison with big name guest potentials.

Also, nothing indicates we'll be getting first parties. Calling people dumb for thinking otherwise is uncalled for.

I'd like more first party characters but I'm at the point in Smash speculation where I'm not gonna be too upset with what they add. The roster is bigger and better than I could have ever dreamed of and every new character we get is a blessing. If we're still gonna be mostly focused on third parties, all I ask for after this Fighters Pass is Crash and they can put in whoever else they want. But I'm pretty damn sated, all things considered.

:ultbanjokazooie:'s addition made Smash Ultimate my all time favorite game so I'm just along for the ride now.

I will admit that I got tired of seeing the same old discussions over chairs with the base game, but I feel that's more a result of people getting tunnel-visioned as honestly in both cycles we tended to fall into the same traps. It wasn't long ago that we kept circling back to discussions over whether we'd get Leon, Jill, Chris or maybe Dante (if we're lucky) as our designated Capcom character for instance, and that kept going for a few months before a Bustah Wolf broke us out of that cycle.

Discussion just needs to be more flexible, it's understandable that we'd place value on a certain few characters that have the criteria to get in, but that doesn't mean they're the only ones that can get in. There are other characters that do have good reason to be included, we just lose sight of them when focusing on what specific favorites we have as a community.

I just want them to announce Ryu Hayabusa (#lock) already so we can move on to the post-Fighters Pass characters and see where they're going with this.

I still want that hair twirler on my Smash cartridge.

I never was a Hat Goom-- I mean Bandana Dee supporter but if it makes them happy I'd like to see him in too. Last two "missing characters" and all that.

If a Mii costume or Assist Trophy gets upgraded all hell will break loose. LET'S. GO.

Everyone has a different opinion on what makes the roster "complete" but to me Dixie and Bandana Dee are easily the biggest missing characters.

If they came as DLC I'd be absolutely elated. Dixie alone would excite me more than any third party character left, honestly.

So uh Nintendo is there a reason we're getting third party Daemon x Machina spirits in Smash but we got nothing for the second party Astral Chain? Unless we're getting Akira as a fighter later down the line...

I'd like a Rhythm Heaven character in Smash, but that has nothing to do with an obsession with representing new franchises. I just genuinely find most of the options to be very unique and creative, and I'd love to see how Sakurai would implement one.

But getting back to the point I was trying to make, we shouldn't be making the franchise our priority. The franchise itself isn't going to be the thing we move around and play as - the character will. We should be focusing on characters with unique movesets first and foremost; the franchise they come from should be an afterthought. I'm not gonna object to a unique character getting in just because they're from a franchise already on the roster, nor am I automatically going to support a character from one that's new.

I mean, you can still talk about them if you want. But most remaining contenders kinda pale in comparison with big name guest potentials.
To be fair, you'd have to pick specific characters to make this argument. Not all third-parties are equal.

I don't think anyone can deny that there are still a few remaining Nintendo characters who would've caused a bigger uproar than Joker or Terry.

I see Akira Howard here, and since I didn't play or follow Astral Chain, I thought we we talking about a new KOF character related to Geese & Rock Howard.

Suffice to say, I was very confused, but now

My gawd has MK Tour gone full gacha. It's like ten bucks to get two car parts (or if the RNG gods smile upon you, maybe even a character). Not having played any mobile Nintendo games, I thought they were more chill about this kinda preposterousness than other companies.

Plus I sacrificed my free rubies (a currency I'm sure I'll never see again without my credit card) to the RNG gods and they cursed me with Baby Daisy. I'm not sure what I did to anger them; I never once complained about Hero.

So maybe I'll be back when I can actually play with friends. Seems like that option isn't available yet.

It gets better, there's an ingame subscription service that's 60 bucks a year ON TOP of gacha and multiplayer is supposed to be added later like Mario Maker 2, so never

Re this whole first party vs third party kerfuffle, I don't really know what camp I sit in cos I've got a roughly equal number of requests in either

Third parties are potentially more attractive, as they add whole new worlds enhance the feeling of a crossover. Yet it annoys me when people imply that people wanting more first party characters suggests they're being narrow minded Nintendo fanboys.

Both have value, though I think the emphasis should be on making the characters as unique as possible

I don’t really like the walking dead either.

Like. I love story in games. I’m just fatigued with gritty realism, post-apocalypse/dystopian settings, hyper violence, and gun combat. It’s like, every game that comes out. It was at least 50% of E3.

I won’t try to stop you from liking it. But I just wish we’d go back to seeing some more variety.
Yeah I can definitely see that lmao. Gaming has a whole(with the exception of Nintendo, which as a whole has went the opposite direction) has moved towards the "hi-def ultra HD 4k gritty bloody shooter" style games that I absolutely hate. Don't get me wrong, games like Call of Duty can be fun now and then, but it's still just a really realistic shooter.

And then of course, Splatoon exists. Which of course, embodies the opposite direction: Casual and witty shooter games with mildly cute graphics and an unique premise compared to the standard as a whole(seriously, when was the last time a shooter game realllly changed up the formulu?)

Don't you still need to set up a credit card for Switch Online, assuming the automatic renewals?
