I think the problem was that the line in general alienized Superman, if you changed the line to "save ma" or "save my mom" it would have worked better rather than "save Martha".
But their moms have the same name. It makes it a more impactful moment of connection between the two heroes.
It really doesn't. I don't connect with fictional characters or actual people just because we have family members with the same name and neither does anyone
