I remember reading during the Smash 4 days how some people were mad that Ryu used actual SF inputs for his specials.

tbf those inputs really don't mesh well with smash, imo Ryu isn't that fun because of it

I mean, you want to see top salt? Just wait until the Season 2 set of Fighters still adds “obscure” or “Non-Nintendo” 3rd parties and the fanbase gets livid.

It’s going to be the best worst days of Smash.

“What the—Sakurai, why add Dante when you can add this incredibly iconic character like Ashley or Bandanna Dee?! Sakurai doesn’t know what he’s doing, get him off of Smash!”

Like I get it, Smash websites or forums have mainly Nintendo fans, as most people who gush over Smash primarily are Nintendo fans. But that skews the actual popularity or significance of 3rd party picks.

Not that there isn’t value in B or C tier 1st parties. But several 3rd parties would blow up the internet outside of the Smash fanbase. Only the Nintendo bubble gets salty.

Clearly, people haven't read up on SNK and how King of Fighters was most likely the key inspiration when it comes to Smash.

I actually think it’d be a little different in terms of Smash fans. In that, considering Layton mainly has his following because of the games he’s had on Nintendo consoles, most of the Nintendo fans would probably be ecstatic.

I’ve never played the games, so I could be wrong. I see him as a very similar 3rd party to Phoenix Wright, in that many a Nintendo fan would be exceptionally pleased by their inclusion.

It’s all they know. After decades of the big four being ignored in favor of other characters, now that they’ve gotten 3/4th of what they want, they don’t know any other way to respond to a character that’s not their cup of tea.

Remember. This is the same group of people who were immediately shouting “rigged ballot” after Bayonetta.

This is partly why I'm happy that they confirmed more DLC incoming. At worst he'd just be shrugged off now like Terry did or overshadowed by whatever other surprising Mii costume comes along I guess...

Everytime I see someone saying that Banjo Fair is not good because it doesn't spike, my head hurt a bit more than before.

Seriously, do they know it can auto-cancel & doesn't have much landing lag for a move with so much power? I get it, haha funny spike so cool for funny video, but come on, being able to kill everywhere on & off stage instead of just off stage gotta make this move at least decent in it's own right, right?

Maybe it’s not worth being a community. If we’re gonna act like this, then maybe we should all just isolate. Retreat into the safety of our own personal bubbles. No one to hurt. No one to hurt us.

I mean, I’m not really a Sol Badguy supporter so I more or less agree on that point. But there’s plenty of 3rd parties that would bring in more hype than Nintendo characters overall.

Dante, or Heihachi, or Leon/Jill would likely generate a ton of hype. Ryu Hayabusa likely would as well. Those are just a few options.

Tbh, there’s no character out there that wouldn’t cause any salt to arise within the Smash fanbase, regardless if they’re 1st or 3rd Party.

Only reason that we’re seeing 3rd Party salt more often is because... we’ve just been getting 3rd Party characters. Same would happen if the FP was just 1st Party,

As a Nintendo fan primarily, I’m obviously more attached to 1st Party characters, but I’m not gonna deny any 3rd Party characters’ inclusion because all of them have had some reasonable impact on the gaming industry.

Also helps that I keep track of gaming outside the Nintendo bubble, so I pretty much knew who each 3rd Party character was prior to reveal (yes, that includes ).

Yeah more or less, that's kind of to be expected from a fanbase that larped on a series like Dragon Quest of all things apparently...
