A rookie boxer from the slums of New Donk City, after narrowly losing his latest attempt to go the distance, he’s decided to take on a new training regimen, joining Paper Mario on his quest to defeat Bowser and a new threat creating powerful foes to plague the Mushroom Kingdom. That’s right. I’m still trying to figure out the details but I definitely want him to play around with all the typical edgy JRPG protagonist tropes and story beats.

So I’ve also been working on how my partners would play out gameplay wise like attacks and such, I wanted to give them a lot more use both in the field and in battle and some stuff could be present as badges (yes even the partners could have badges this time around). Free free to throw out more ideas but here’s what I have so far:

Spoiler: Rezqueen

Field Abilities
-She can charge through obstacles
-She uses her horns to lift objects
-She can spit fireballs to hit or ignite objects
-Mario can ride on her back

Attacks
-Charge: Builds up speed and rams into a single opponent

-Horn Chuck: Lifts a single enemy with her horns and tosses them one spot behind where they were standing, can do damage to any enemies standing directly behind

-Full Speed Ahead: Builds up speed and charges straight through all grounded enemies

-Horn Juggle: Lifts a single enemy with her horns and tosses them in the air several times before dropping them on the ground

-Stampede: Summons a herd of Reznors to charge at and damage all ground level enemies

-Fireball: Spits out a single fireball that hits one enemy

-Fire Wall: Spits out a pillar of fire directly in front of Mario to act as a defensive wall against physical attacks from

-Flame Breath: Charges up her breath to let out a continuous stream of fire to hit multiple enemies.

Field Abilities
-Mario can hitch a ride on her Cloud
-The Cloud can float above certain terrain
-The Cloud’s propeller can switch out into a spring and can perform a Super Jump
-The Cloud can release electricity
-Jaki can operate and repair machinery
-Jaki can send out a robotic Spiny Drone to perform certain tasks like

Attacks
-Spiny Drone: Throws out a robot Spiny to hit a single opponent, can hit flying opponents

-Cloud-apult: Jaki retreats into her shell as the Cloud changes into Spring mode. After charging up, the Cloud launches Jaki high into the air and she lands on the enemy with great force.

-High Lift: Jaki lifts herself and Mario into the air to avoid ground level attacks

-Lightning Strike: performs a lightning strike on a grounded enemy

-Shocking Static: Jaki spins the Cloud around Mario to give him an electric aura that shocks enemies when they try to physically attack him

Field Abilities
-He can climb on walls facing the camera
-He can grapple onto nearby nodes

Attacks
-Flying Cross: He uses his web to swing himself forward and deliver a punch

-Poison Strike: He spits out a poison shot that inflicts extra damage on a single enemy

-Web Trap: He throws out a small ball of sticky webbing that sticks a single enemy on the ground and immobilizes them

-Propeller Hook: While descending from the ceiling, he spins himself around and twirl up his web. He spins back with his arms outstretched hitting one enemy multiple times

-Web Fling: He throws a big web that can trap and immobilize all enemies

I’m still working on Roshin’s field abilities as well as edgy names for some of his attacks.

I sort of envisioned him as being a really lazy, kinda sleazy looking guy. Like he just got out of bed and doesn’t care enough to fix himself up. The point is he doesn’t want you to know he’s the next Burrbo chief, so he dresses and acts very un-regal. He’s got a crass sense of humor (as crass as Nintendo can get) and he’s kind’ve a jerk, but that all stems from his crippling insecurities. He’s really nice, underneath all the spikes.

He’s always got the rest of his tribe with him, because his whole special ability is using the Burrbo swarm. But it’s usually just him represented. They pop in when needed, cuz video game logic.

In Odyssey Burrbos are always found in groups. You take out one and two more spawn. So I figured why not have a partner that’s technically hundreds of little partners all working together?

-The Burrbo swarm can merge together to form shapes. Maybe a bridge to get over gaps, a ladder to climb up somewhere, etc.

-In battle, Mario could grab Bristle and throw him for relatively low damage.

- He could get the Burrbo swarm to form a giant fist and wreck house. Or an even bigger stampede to just trample through enemies in a spiky, painful wave.

-“The Burrbo Trap” where Bristle hunches down in front of an enemy. While they’re advancing they’ll step on him, hurting them and stopping them from attacking for one turn.

-The Burrbos could form around Mario, becoming a suit of armor for one turn. Any physical attackers will be hurt themselves.

Just a few ideas.

As for "edgy names," maybe Black Hole should also apply to his eating ability as well as his moniker.

not near as good looking as the Doomguy one, but it gets the point across.

Interesting ideas there. So if I go with this, that means I have my self-imposed limit of four partners for Mario. Now I need two more for Peach.

You know, I kinda find it odd that they haven't ported it to the Switch. They refuse to let it officially be playable on any handheld that isn't a tablet, and that's what the Switch is.

It'd be cool, I used to play PTCGO all the time (hence the name PeridotGX), but lost interest around the time the Sun/Moon sets released. A switch port would probably bring me back.

I am so happy that you like how it looks, my dear friend! xDD Hehe, I just made it like...half an hour ago, because I don't know why I felt confident about finally making the damn thing, I mean, I think it is pretty obvious that I am an artist, but just in case many don't know. And I added like 2 commissions I actually did (the Rids and K.Rool one and the D&D character that is a red dragon), and mostly are works I just did for fun as you have seen before.
