I do have to wonder what Sakurai's thought process is behind the DLC.

Like, has he taken notes fron last time's reception? Clearly so, given he gave everyone back their precious veterans as well as added some of the most highly requested characters (K. Rool and Ridley being the prime examples of Sakurai fufilling the fan's demands). So what's next? Who were the most popular characters besides the ones we got in Smash that were speculated? What were people wanting from Sm4sh's DLC that we didn't get?

It's a given that Third Party is likely, but what aboit Dixie Kong or Bandana Waddle Dee? Hell, even Captain Toad.

There's also the fact that, given we only have three characters in speculation since almost everyone seems to agree that a DQ character is likely, we have so little slots for the decent list of popular character wanted for DLC. If we don't get a second fighter pass, then people may feel a bit disappointed given there's a good bit of iconic and really popular characters left.

I suppose we'll see what Sakurai does. It's hard to pin the man down given I'm positive no one thought the first DLC character would be Joker. If anything, like last time with a SEGA character, we'd likely have thought him to be the last.

i'd argue feMC is a different case altogether because, barring PQ2's alternate universe shenanigans, she quite literally cannot exist in the same universe as the male protagonist, and so doesn't fit into spinoffs--usually treating the male protagonist as canon--nearly as easily. they have to pick just one, and go for the male protagonist every time.

marie and kasumi, meanwhile, are just updates/additions into the existing canon that don't demand the removal of anything already in place. the basegame canon just ceases to exist in atlus's eyes once the rereleases come out, whereas with P3 they have to treat both protagonists' stories as their own things.

People are going to be disappointed even if we do end up getting ten fighter passes.

Nintendo's only for me. The Direct format is the way to go for me. Just get everything said and done.

I will be interested in Microsoft's, otherwise I will let the news tell me what's up for the others.

I honestly think Sakurai's just adding characters he likes that are also popular. Joker has no normal "reason" to be in smash, but Sakurai is a Persona megafan so he threw him in. I've got no problem with that.

I suppose that's true, but even still, the outcry would get less and less niche.

Though I've already seen "Joker stole ____'s spot" so I suppose it's already begun

I know Sakurai is a P5 fan, but as far as we know, Joker was still suggested by Nintendo.

Adding another unique character just to make female Corrin the default one was a bold move, but I support Sakurai on this one.

True, but I don't think that Sakurai would have chosen joker if he wasn't a P5 fan. Obviously we have no way to know for sure, but Joker doesn't really fit the same standards that other third parties have set. I'm glad for that though, I think it opens up the way for a greater variety of characters in the future.

So Ninty wants what's popular, huh? Who's the most popular character from a popular franchise in recent gaming media? Kratos? Dante? Doomguy? Master Chief? Lara Croft? 2B? Crash?

Those are what comes to mind.

Also, I'm surprised at how many people think we'll see two characters announced at E3. It's not out of the realm of possibilites, but that's definitely the most optimistic of the realistic choices.

I voted for one and two. I definitely think we'll get a full Erdrick reveal and breakdown, but I also think there's a slim chance we'll get a Game Awards Joker styled teaser for Challenger Pack 3. Not betting on it though.

im only curious in SE solely for the avengers project

the ff7 remake is cool and all but im in nintendo gang so i benefit nothing from it

unless the project is also a PS4/5 exclusive in which case :sadsheep:

inb4 ff7 remake comes to switch but its just the pocket HD version

I'm having some thoughts of the character(s) being someone not many are talking heavily about since the past few months but still have a follow of a sort (one example being neither Microsoft or Square Enix).

I’m more of a Portal fan so I’d be more interested in seeing Chell but I’m all down for Gordon. I’d be interested how they make use of his Gravity Gun in Smash.

Also I know that DLC fighters don’t bring assist trophies with them, but a head crab assist trophy would be great.

Like your picks, only thing I don't like a lot is the lack of female characters. Which honestly given the statements from Nintendo I would imagine a female pick, as in no alt skin or part of the other character.
