What confuses me even more is the fact that we have no spirits of trainers. Spirits are fairly easy to make, so throwing in a few trainers would be quite simple. And yeah, we do have the Pokémon Trainer fighter spirit, but you can’t really play with those.

They don't use Ken Sugimori's artwork, and the trainers have less official non-Sugimori artwork than the Pokemon.

Best I can do is Paladins, which is basically Overwatch but with more TF2 inspiration.

Still boggles my mind that aside from Pokemon Trainer, as well as trophies of Misty, Professor Oak, Professor Sycamore and the XY Trainers, Smash never really focuses on the the human characters in Pokemon.

I mean, I understand the Pokemon themselves are the stars of the show, but still... at least give the humans a little bit more love.

That’s one of the reasons why I want to see Cynthia make it in.

Likely not on the Fighter Pass, but I just mean in general.

Ah ok. Never played the first one. It seemed like like 8's post game 'trials' where you always start the first match against the Dragovian King, then he transforms into a huge dragon (I think its like 7 battles and the dragon is progressively harder each time).

Honestly, between the focus he got in the CG trailer, to the fact that he was the one who used the Final Smash, to his Boxing Ring title, to the Kirby hat, to the leaks themselves, it seems very clear to me that Erdrick was originally going to be the default Hero but SE or Nintendo intervened to promote Eleven.

Like alone those things are pretty innocuous, but taken together? It gets a bit fishy.

Erdrick is literally the title of the DQ3 protagonist that was inherited in-universe by the DQ1 protagonist.

Aside from the leak part, I think the rest of those are just a coincidence. The Kirby Hat and Boxing Ring title should be things added later in development, not at the very beginning. The stage is from DQ11, and I'd assume the work on that began long before a Kirby hat.

I'm not saying Erdrick wasn't the original pick at some point. I just don't think we really have anything outside the leaks that suggests that.
