This only proves that the Smash fanbase is among the worst fanbases (if not the worst) out there.

I believe it's just like with any quote. One thing gets said or thrown around in different contexts, and then people start burning buildings without getting the full picture.

For example, people are only reading the bolded parts of the article sometimes and those bolded parts are translated so poorly that it make Sakurai look like a monster

Oh my God I've actually been keeping up with whats going on with Chrissy. He apparently sprayed himself with the spray to test it and knocked himself out for half an hour.

Then again, what about Zelda?

Zelda isnt really that bad at all, besides the usual "new is bad" crowd that materializes every entry.

He has done a lot of things just to spite and hamper the competitive community, Raccoon. He knows what he can do to foster it and doesn't, instead purposefully using sub-par design and hyping it up. Whether or not he feels animosity is irrelevant - he's still busting our balls. The sad thing is that a lot of fans will cite "But For Glory!" all day long to dismiss the criticism.

Maybe because it's not the purpose of Nintendo to make competitive games, but rather casual and accessible games for everyone ? He knows how the competitive world is not really what Nintendo wants, and we already saw it with Brawl. With Smash 4, he tried to make the game more competitive, but not too much so that casuals can still play it.
Nintendo is for "kids" remember, and the only officially competitive game Nintendo will have is Pokemon. Smash ? Meh, only Melee is really competitive.

So I'll say it's mostly the fault of Nintendo that Smash is like that. Sakurai is the director, but there's Iwata with him, always saying that Nintendo games are for everyone, not for a competitive scene.

That makes some sense. I imagine there'd be some conceptual issues with the Koopalings, likre the hitboxes, etc. But I'm glad they made them work in the end.
