Saying Smash will go away is like saying Mario Party will go away. Even if every post-MP4 game sucked and the series has changed developer hands at least twice, it will continue to exist for the simple fact that it will always have a new wave of buyers.

Looks like the salt will continue with this kong if there's no patch that will change characters, because "Sakurai ain't competitive".

In all seriousness, it's only Sakurai's opinion. He's not a competitive player, that's for sure. He tries to satisfy everyone though, but he's right on one point : there's more competitive games than Smash. Look at Street Fighter for example : there's a lot to learn and the skill gap is important. In Smash, appart in big competitive scene, if you play normally, with items and stuff, anybody can win. But apparently, since Melee came out and became popular, Smash "needs" to be competitive.
So yeah, Sakurai has at least one point right. In my own opinion of course.
So the point is go play another game competitive? Excellent point! In that vein, there are other forums than Smashboards, so why don't you go to one of those instead of meandering in a dominantly competitive Smash forum?

You casually glossed over the fact that Sakurai intended for Melee to compete with contemporary fighting games.

It automatically puts you on watched when you make a like or post. idk why thats a thing
It's possible to turn this off in preferences.

Official illustrations also tend to include fanservice for those series that don't have it...

Sadly that includes Madoka:

Those are from Rebellion Official Artbook by the way.
This is true. The good thing is that none of that appears in the anime itself and I will only ever come across it if I look for it (or someone shows it to me.)

Correct. He said that the majority of the Smash demographic were children and therefore can't be (reasonably) pleased. It's a different statement than calling us children because we can't be pleased.
You should of seen Gmefaqs when someone posted that. It was the super fun to read.... for a while at least then it got annoying

Discussing how much salt people are relesing here:
http://smashboards.com/threads/sakurai-smash-as-a-competitive-game-has-no-future.384952/

I did it long time ago.
Of all the tournaments I have been to, I've never been in a room where the general attitude is "**** Sakurai, **** Brawl, **** Sm4sh, **** the casuals..." It's really only where the competitives and casuals meet that I have ever seen argument, and it's always about how "dumb it is" to play with items off, etc. Back when I was advertising the local tournament scene at the Best Buy demo events for Sm4sh, I ran into a few people who just ****ing snobs about how competitive players have their fun.

Not surprising, though, considering that's generally the first video game discussion board people go to before they move on to other sites so a lot of children go there.

If there's one thing I've learned, it's that being older does not necessarily mean you're more mature.

It's funny, in the end Sakurai doesn't hate the competitive, and even said he thinks it's fine, but he isn't against it either. I've seen so many posts over the time I've joined about how Sakurai is trying to screw them over, or how "they had to drag Sakurai to the Nintendo Invitational." But I mean really, he's never said anything about being against it.

And yet, a huge number of people assume he does. Or at the very least have a "with us or against us" mindset.

Whether or not he is right or wrong...that I can't say myself, but it seems clear there is no hatred involved from his side.

Opinions are hard to understand when some people are close-minded to one idea. And unfortunaly, a lot of people are close-minded in the Smash community.

I believe it's just like with any quote. One thing gets said or thrown around in different contexts, and then people start burning buildings without getting the full picture.

He has done a lot of things just to spite and hamper the competitive community, Raccoon. He knows what he can do to foster it and doesn't, instead purposefully using sub-par design and hyping it up. Whether or not he feels animosity is irrelevant - he's still busting our balls. The sad thing is that a lot of fans will cite "But For Glory!" all day long to dismiss the criticism.
