Well Romeo and I weren't aware that we would be staying in SLO the night before. So then we had to think about it logically.

If we go to SLO, we won't be going to sleep until 6 am, because we will be having lots of fun.
Which means we'd have to leave at about 7 am because we'd be at least 3 hours from the tournament.
Which means we'd have to wake up at around 5:30am to reasonably leave at 7 am.
Which means we'd have to travel 30 minutes back in time to accomplish our goals.

Then, we'd go to a tournament tired as ****.
Then, since plan9 has class the next day, we'd have to drive back that same night, after a 10 hour+ tournament.

Something tells me none of that sounds like a good idea. Nothing to do with flaking, **** was just never a good idea to begin with. And people won't even be arriving until 2 am.

And we're not trying to stop anyone from going. We could easily find our own rides, and we could even fill Lovage's car with other people.
But that doesn't matter, it's not a good idea to begin with.

A much better idea would have been to plan this party for thursday night, use friday to recuperate, then head out friday night and sleep over in Norcal.

Parties before tournaments only work if you aren't driving 3 hours, playing for 10, then driving 6 hours immediately after the party.

I just don't understand what's stupid about any of that.

Really though, staying up past like 3 or 4 is generally unnecessary [and if you've been drinkn and or smokin you're likely to eventually decide to go crash somewhere]. plus, if your driver is willing to go to bed earlier than most everybody else, the point becomes moot. if they get 4 hours of sleep, that's enough to drive up to the tournament while the rest of the car sleeps on the 4 hour drive.

the idea is inherently flawed, but isn't a broken plan.

alternatively, you can make the full 7 hour drive to brandon's dorms or the hub house
you'd go to bed at around the same time (then there's the question of how much "fun" you would have at either place)
you'd sleep on either a cold wooden floor, or a cold dirty tile floor
get the same amount of sleep, feel just about as tired

or, you could crash at brian's place
have more space (couches/carpet) to sleep on
the drive would be split into 2 reasonable distances instead of 1 long one--slo is a pretty good place to stop
gishnak's girlfriend wants to cater the event, so you would eat like kings while you were there, and have home made cinnamon rolls in the morning
booze/weed if you wanted
