Yea, thats pretty much what I think. His attributes are great, but they were unbeatable till people figured him out.
Ah well.

Snake is no longer a character that can be taken into a tournament as a Solo main. There are too many hard/soft counters to him in the upper tier characters. Falco, Rob, King Dedede are just a few of the examples of characters that are directly below him in the tier list that do wonderful against him. Despite this, Snake has continued to keep winning tournaments. Part of this is due to the belief that he has the best match up vs Meta Knight. It has pushed many individuals into utilizing him. Unless something substantial occurs in Snake's Meta game, he's going to drop to a few slots.
The Snake vs Meta Knight is broken down into three aspects.
Low Level Play.
Snake > Meta Knight. Most low level Mks kill themselves, or fail at recovering. While Snake's raw power is enough to deter approaches.
Mid level play.
Snake > Meta Knight. Tornado cannot compete with grenades and mines, which is what most mid level MKs rely on.
High level play.
Snake < Meta Knight. True gimps have finally surfaced. MK is always going to make it back to the stage, and with proper DI isn't going to die by a Nair or any other multihit move.
Globally speaking, 'Snake is better than Meta Knight.' However, where it counts, Meta Knight is better than Snake.

By how much? Is there a certain skill level the MK can hit that will make the matchup unwinnable for snake? Or can the snake always be very close, until both players hit "perfection" which would not happen.

I run about even with all the best in the state of Louisiana. I'm pretty much the best Snake in the state. If I pick Snake against Lee Martin[the good one.], I will be three stocked. He'll get me off stage and destroy me with evil gimps. =( However, with any other character match up I can run rather close to him. Snake is a lost cause vs a high level MK.
I now have to pick up MK and Lucario to have a viable tournament match vs him.
Low level: 55/45 Snake.
Mid level: 50/50
High Level: 65/35 in MK's favor.
Once MK takes Snake to the air, it's over.

Then it's a question of how hard it is to get Snake into the air. It isn't that hard really. From grab releases, shuttle loops, and throws, Snake can certainly get sent flying.

Because he's 2nd on the tier list and I feel is the strongest MK counter at the moment.
I'm just trying to accelerate all metagames as far as they can go, then see if anyone actually counters MK.... until then.... MK isn't bannable >.> which is my goal (to get him banned) by proving no matter how good other characters get, MK is just better.
So I use Snake, Diddy Kong, and DK the most right now, but I actually main random.

Stage Control and the ability to live to 200%+ as long as I'm not gimped.

3 of the people behind him give him a hard time.... he's becoming less and less tourney viable, meaning he's winning less tournaments.
I feel King D3, G&W, and Rob/Falco (not sure yet) will pass him up.
Especially since ROB gives me a harder time then Snake does when I'm MK <.<

I don't see Snake falling, personally. Even though he has a few bad matchups below him, he can still win those fights. There's no one who completely locks him down. The same can't be said of Game and Watch/DDD. Not to mention he COMPLETELY overpowers a lot of the cast.
