I had the most amazing Halloween ever.
As is indicated by the title, my friends and I went out as Phoenix Wright characters. I was Klavier Gavin, and my friends were Godot, Ema Skye (Apollo Justice), and Officer(/Bailiff) Meekins. Two other friends tagged along too, but they weren't exactly Phoenix Wright characters. One of them was a very loose Edgeworth, and the other was...I think Ichigo from Bleach...but I'm not positive. Animes tend to run together in my head, except for the like, 3 that I'm familiar with. The gigantic sword is what makes me think he was Ichigo.
Anywho, that's not really that important. It is important to note that my friends and I were totally serious with these costumes; they weren't just random Halloween costumes.
[From here on out, I'll refer to everyone aside from myself as who they dressed up as.]
We decided to go hang out downtown and do whatever. I got there a little later than everyone else, since I had to work. (They got there at 5, I ended up getting there at 6:15, since I work 'til 5 and I had to get home and get my costume on and all.)
We first headed to a gazebo downtown, which was dark and empty, but a good place to hang out and take pictures. We took some random pictures, took pictures of Ema snackooing people, took pictures of Godot doing a spit take, took pictures of Godot pushing his mug against people. We also put on some Guilty Love (and I did a guitar solo =D), and then Caramelldansen'd (we decided we had to do that ever since we saw this). Oh, and we reenacted this picture, minus Apollo and Trucy.
At some point some random guys came up to us and gave us pixie sticks, which was really sketchy...but Edgeworth ate them anyways.
Also, some moron who thought they were cool kept honking their horn. That was half funny and half annoying.
At about 6:45, Godot informed us that we had to leave at 7, as he had a date with his girlfriend, at which point Meekins and I raged, since we were starving and were planning to get something to eat downtown and we wouldn't have enough time. What eventually happened was that he rearranged his plans so that we all headed over to hang out at a party where his girlfriend and a few other friends of ours were, and we all decided to ride together to the party.
The car ride there was, by far, the most epic car ride ever.
So epic, in fact, that I'm not sure words can do it justice...but I'll try.
In short: we blasted the Pokémon Theme and sang along with the windows rolled all the way down. I also played air guitar to the solo.
(I'd like to point out that I was the only one who knew the lyrics to every part of the song, despite being amongst a group of fairly geeky people. Geek score +1.)
After we blasted "Viridian City", we blasted this and danced as much as one can while buckled up in a seat.
...It really isn't as awesome in words as it was in person, just trust me, it was awesome.
At the party, we took a myriad of other pictures, most notably one with Meekins handcuffing Ema and I together and a facepalm from yours truly.
Words don't really do any of this justice...it's definitely the experience in the moment that was so amazing.
But for sure, in the words of Ema, "Halloween was positively glimmerous." (If you haven't played Apollo Justice, you won't get that entirely.)
What I learned from cosplaying Klavier:
- Klavier's concept art contradicts all of his sprites. Look at his left hand's ring. The concept art has the ring on his index finger, while all of his sprites have it on his middle finger.
- Klavier has a contradiction in his guitar-playing, too...in that same spritesheet, notice his air guitar animation (the last animation before the miscellaneous sprites). Note that he strums with his left hand and moves along the frets with his right. This is how people tend to play air guitar when they have no knowledge of the guitar, but you generally use your dominant hand to strum, and right-handed people are in the majority.
Now, if you'll then note any of the instances in which he holds a guitar for real, like this, you'll notice that he actually DOES hold a real guitar the right way.
- Klav hair does not taste good.
- Klav is really weird, given that he is a German prosecutor, who's the leader of a boy band, who wears 3 chains and a LOT of jewelry for a guy.
Overall, from the Phoenix Wright Cosplay Brigade, I learned this:
No matter how much pain it is to put together a costume, no matter how much trouble the costume can be to wear...it's totally worth it. It gives you special insight into a character, it can be a lot of fun to put together, and once you're done, you've got the satisfaction of looking at all of your hard work.
If you go and buy the materials for your costume on Halloween and try and throw something together, it's obviously not going to come out even half as good (though that's fine if it's just a random costume, regular Halloween costumes need not be expensive.
But why the hell would you settle for a pillowcase of candy when you can get about 10 snackoos, some potentially thrown at you?
