Feel like this reason could be used for most of the Smash characters. Most people would not have them on their roster if they were not added by Sakurai. Graninja, Wii Fit Trainer, Rosalina, Captain Falcon, Ness and Ice Climbers are some examples that could have this logic because that aren't important to Nintendo.

Well WFT, CF, Ness, and ICs all are cool ideas and represent franchises. Greninja, Jiggs, and Rosalina don't. That's why I don't have them. I might add them eventually though.

Sneak your faves in, yet be rational. I honestly wonder how I wasn't eliminated when I added Donbe and Hikari, or when I added Skull Kid. But I guess I hid them in with four rational characters.

I'm saying that if they were not in Smash, they would not have anything special. Why Ice Climbers over other retros? Why Captain Falcon over other F-Zero character or even other series that have had a drought, or IP that are much more recent? Why WFT over Shulk or Wonder Red or Dillon as a modern IP? Why Ness over more important or more recent MOTHER characters? Why would a three game series need a second character when we already have Lucas? Why Rosalina over the more important Toad or Bowser Jr? Why Greninja or Juggylpuff over Blaziken or Eevee?

Veterans usually are considered over other characters because of veteran status.

One person in the first game was so unique having Megaman and Ridley over Mario. Uniqueness is not disliked over safer rosters, but you don't go overboard with unique characters. The thing that I think cost me the last game was that I was desperate for unique choices, so I had Sami and Giovanni.

I'm not the only one who picked Skull Kid, plus can someone explain to me why Sheik and Toon Link are more important to have? And Ice Climbers aren't needed with Donbe and Hikari. But whatever your choice I guess.

A lot of rosters only have two Star Fox characters; I think the series should have three at this point. I ended up voting for Shortie because not only does he have only two SFs but I also personally think Wario shouldn't get another character for quite a while.

I love them Kid Icarus and Wario girls.

Also waiting for somebody to put Rosalina.... I'm afraid to put her until somebody else does....

Amen. I want Anna, but I might add Micaiah first. Hence why Ike was added this round.

I thought this was a pretty tight round, and came down to nitpicky things. I voted for Shortie, though, because it touched on a couple bases I didn't fully agree with, being a second Wario rep at this point, and for Jigglypuff, which a lot of rosters have.

Neither of these reasons are super huge though, but that's all it came down to.

And I feel similarly about Shiek. Just like Jigglypuff, I feel there are better characters from their respective series to represent, despite their veteran titles in Smash.

Retro just includes so much; but there can be too much representation from such without having equal numbers of newer series which were influential but not fully time withstanding.

Perhaps a round of characters only in 1-2 games (or rather, that the series only had one or two)

I think coming up with an original character is pretty simple. Objectively there are about 13 Mario games per Wario game.

Ashley, Lucas, Black Shadow, only Gen One Pokemon; a lot of rosters got more interesting this round, but this one still bothers me. Mario really stll with four, yet WARIO with two? Half? Naw. Sorry, naw. Same with some of the others, but c'mon. Also, the Pokemon thing.

Oh boy, was this round difficult for me. I'm gonna need some specific rules or I may lose it. Anyway...

• DRY BOWSER RISES FROM THE GRAVE - This choice was more experimental than anything. Since Charizard was solo I wanted another transformation character, and lo and behold Bowser fit the bill! I think Dry Bowser's unique enough to be his own character, and he's part of Bowser so he doesn't get in over more important Mario characters! Speaking of which...
• TOAD SPRINTS IN - I love Toad, so it was a no brainer which Mario character was next. Welcome to the spot you should've gotten in Brawl, my mushroomed companion!
• LUCARIO APPEARS! - Wanted a Pokémon not from first gen, and Lucario fit the bill.
• RAY MK. UPGRADES ONTO THE FIELD - Custom Robo Reps = more series, more series = yay.
• DUCK HUNT DOG LAUGHS AT YOU! - Wanted a retro rep to balance out my added millenial and modern IPs. Duck Hunt Dog was on the docket so I stuck him in there.
• DILLON; SILENT BUT DEADLY - Love Dillon, love his game, modern IP, on my list anyway. Voila.

Additions:
Paper Mario: Chosen over Toad, Bowser Jr, and Rosalina for no huge reason. It was a very tight race, but I decided on him because he feels like a good balance for Toon Link.
Lip: I wanted to represent a new series, and I chose her over Starfy, because I felt my roster could have more female characters.
Wolf: Just felt like it was time to add a third Star Fox character.
Anna: Really tough decision here. I wanted a third Fire Emblem character, and was planning on Ike. However, I chose Anna, because there is so much more to the Fire Emblem series than blue-haired swordsmen. But I will admit, it does feel a bit odd not having Ike. He'll be next for when I decide to add a fourth.
Porky: I've wanted to add him for several rounds, but couldn't find the right time or place. I love seeing how many people are adding him.
I also HEAVILY considered adding Megaman this round. Maybe next time.

All of these rosters with Porky are feeling a bit repetitive. Sure, Porky's cool and all, but it gets boring when everyone adds him. That's why I decided to go with Lucas.

Ok I decided to go with some more popular choices just to bulk up my series count a bit.

Added:
Ice Climbers- I got the hint. Makes the 2nd duo character
Dillon - Needed a newer IP besides Shulk
R.O.B. - Very important Retro that I should have gotten blasted for not having
Bowser Junior/ Shadow Mario - I like Paper Mario more, but I feel like people might think of him as a clone, when he wouldn't be. Bowser Jr. is a cool character though.
Takamaru - Wanted another cool retro on my roster.

Also placed in Sheik and ZSS into my roster, since I feel like I'll get hate if I don't have them by now.

Wanted to add: Viridi but I was afraid KI didn't need 3 yet.
