Job #16: Battle Maps

How many battle maps should there be, and what would they look like? For me:
NewRetro
Block Palace
N64 Double Deck
Lakeside Caldera
GBA Battle Course 4
Bob-omb Battleship
DS Tart Top
Nimbus Arena
Wii Funky Stadium
Great Ring of Kong
NS Dragon Palace

Job 16:
NewRetro
Castle Grounds
N64 Double Deck
Boo Gardens
GBA Battle Course 4
Grumble Core
GCN Tilt-A-Kart
Wonder Factory
Wii Delfino Pier
Great Banana Temple
NS Dragon Palace
  • Castle Grounds - People love the MK64’s Peach’s Castle, so let’s turn it into a battle course. Takes place right beside Peach’s Castle.
  • Boo Gardens - A maze-like battle course taking place within a hedge maze and Boos haunting the area.
  • Grumble Core - The crater of a volcano, small and cramped like battle courses of old. As time goes on, areas of the track collapse like Grumble Volcano.
  • Wonder Factory - Based on Mario Wonder’s final world. Surrounded by green wonder… fluid(?) and under barrage by Bullet Bills.
  • Great Banana Temple - Based on DK Jungle’s ‘great banana’. Filled with booby traps, as time goes on.
  • N64 Double Deck - The last N64 battle course remaining. It’s time has come.
  • GBA Battle Course 4 - Fits well as the desert battle course, and redesigned with an oasis theme.
  • GCN Tilt-A-Kart - Could be interesting with the antigravity gimmick turning on in the last minute, spicing up the gameplay.
  • Wii Delfino Pier - We haven’t got a Wii Battle Course yet.
  • NS Dragon Palace - Fun course I wouldn’t mind seeing return.

Job #17: Special and Spiny Cup

The last eight tracks of the base game, same rules as before.

Special CupSpiny Cup
Luigi Casino
NS Cloudtop Cruise
Koopa Clown Carnival
N64 DK's Jungle Parkway
Castle Bowser
Wii Bowser's Castle
Rainbow Road
GBA Rainbow Road
  • New courses
    • Luigi Casino: Based on the DS casino minigames
    • Koopa Clown Carnival: Loosely based on Switch Scramble Circus from 3D World
    • Castle Bowser: Based on the last story levels from Mario Wonder
    • Rainbow Road: Based on its appearance from the 2023 Mario movie
  • Retro courses
    • Cloudtop Cruise and Wii Bowser's Castle: Same as before
    • DK"s Jungle Parkway: Redesigned to look like it takes place near New Orleans. The ramp with the big jump is now a glide ramp.
    • GBA Rainbow Road: The Bowser Castle from Paper Mario 64 is now part of the track design, with the big swinging spike balls as obstacles.

Job 17:
Special CupSpiny Cup
Wario’s Arcade
GCN Wario Colosseum
Shy Guy Temple
NS Cloudtop Cruise
Bowser’s Castle
DS Bowser's Castle
Rainbow Road
GBA Rainbow Road
  • Wario’s Arcade - Inspired by Waluigi Pinball, and I imagine the casino theme might be a little iffy nowadays, so an arcade might be a better fit. Wario loves money, after all.
  • Shy Guy Temple - A desert track with ruins, traps, and imagery based on ancient Shy Guys. We somehow don’t have a nitro desert track yet…
  • Bowser’s Castle - It’s Bowser’s Castle. It has to be here.
  • Rainbow Road - It’s Rainbow Road. Could be a point A to B course across space, a literal space race to the moon.
  • GCN Wario Colosseum - Now actually has a crowd of people in the colosseum.
  • NS Cloudtop Cruise - We don’t have a sky course yet. This one fits.
  • DS Bowser’s Castle - I’d like each game here to have at least one course that hasn’t been remade yet. I’d prioritise this one over the Wii version.
  • GBA Rainbow Road - A fun capstone for the game.

I’m gonna go on a brief hiatus from this thread. What are you current impressions of the base game so far? And what do you suggest for DLC?

For my current impressions, frankly I was hoping for a New Donk City track to be in the Special Cup.

Current Impressions:
I don’t mind the track selection too much, but I feel like some of the ideas are just different for the sake of being different.

We’ve also got a few flaws here:
  • There is no nitro desert track. This should be a priority going into DLC.
  • We’ve given too much attention to Wii. Now the only tracks that haven’t been remade yet are Luigi Circuit and Mario Circuit. We ought to have included one of these.
  • Likewise, why did we go with Wii Bowser’s Castle? The DS one was right there, and now the DS is stuck with tracks that have appeared before.
  • We did not need FOUR N64 tracks. We could have at least substituted DK’s Jungle Parkway for GCN’s Wario Colosseum, especially as we already have Lakeside Park as a jungle track.
  • GCN and DS have gotten the short end of the stick with just two tracks each.
There are positives, of course:
  • I think the selection of SNES, GBA, 3DS, and NS tracks were good, and made sense.
  • I’m very grateful we didn’t double dip into Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s retro track pool, including Tour’s tracks and the BCP.

Job #01: I don't think we'd really need a particular gimmick, but I do have one that might work well for set dressing - akin to the Zero-Gravity gimmick back in Mario Kart 8. Specifically, Temporal Jumps - which allow you to transition between different "time periods" in a stage's history, a little like the time travel in Sonic CD.

Every stage would have a "past" and "future" variant, which could be switched between by passing through a Temporal Gate. Notably, Temporal Gates can either be over the entire track - meaning everyone would pass through it - or only over part of the track, meaning you could choose whether to enter it or not, but they're featured in some form or another on every track. A stage's "past" and "future" forms would have slightly different appearances and layouts, the specifics of which could change from stage to stage. Some (purely hypothetical) examples;
  • A stage set in some woodlands, with the "past" variant during spring, and the "future" variant in autumn.
  • A stage set in a shipwreck. Its "past" variant is still sailing, but the "future" variant is sunken underwater.
  • A Bowser's Castle stage, with the "past" variant being a more traditional castle, while the "future" variant has been redecorated.
  • A Retro stage where the "past" variant is more accurate to its original version, while its "future" variant has more changes overall.
Job #02: I think you could easily have 33 tracks at launch - 16 of them (four cups) as new and also have self drive car rental dubai that I saw recently, 16 of them (four cups) as retro, and then a "Minus World" (or thereabouts) which mashes up all kinds of elements from the other tracks into one giant one.
I want to add that we can easily create a track from some other games rather then Nintendo. For example: create track for NFW series or Gran Turismo. I would sell my soul to see Gran Turismo in Mario Kart
