OK, eyeballing it it looks like Yharnam and Onion Dojo are in. Congrats to those who submitted them.

Next Prompt: Submit a "Platform Neutral" character

One of the things i added while taking over this thread was four "Platform Neutral" slots. These are for characters who are equally tied to both Playstation and Nintendo, both in the "I couldn't just choose one side for this character to be on" way and the "neither side is particularly close to them" way. These are basically guest characters, you could say. I'm not going to go too in-depth for this, but I would say Sonic applies for this round.

Here's something to take advantage of in this round. Obviously every canidate for this is third party, so there's no penalty. But going forward, that company is already in - there would be no penalty for other characters from their company either.

New Platform-Neutral Character - Crash Bandicoot (Crash Bandicoot - 1996)

Crash Bandicoot needs no introduction, right?

Anyway (in case I'm wrong), Crash is the main protagonist of the titular video game franchise originally developed by Naughty Dog for Sony's PlayStation console, before it became a third-party franchise with some of the games created by numerous developers on other platforms. For his backstory, Crash was originally an ordinary bandicoot, until he was genetically-enhanced by a evil mad scientists, Doctor Neo Cortex, until he ran away and returned to rescue his girlfriend Tawna from him with the help of a floating voodoo mask with the spirit of a witch doctor, Aku Aku. Later installments focuses on him and his younger sister Coco, whose quiet life on the Wumpa Islands is often interrupted by Cortex himself, often defeating and foiling his plans for world domination.

While Sackboy, Toro Inoue and Astro Bot are considered Sony's official mascots for the PlayStation brand, Crash himself is overall said, the legendary icon during his PlayStation 1-era heydays back in the 1990's and even has a formerly PS4-exclusive remake, Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy which was revealed in Sony's E3 2016 conference and PlayStation Experience the same year, having been heavily associated with PlayStation thanks to his popularity and how his games helped the console establish dominance over Nintendo 64. He even appeared in Sony's recent commercials/adverts alongside fellow icons, had a opening theme melody at their concert orchestra event in 2018 and even a cameo in Astro's Playroom.

For Nintendo's side, as Champion of Hyrule Champion of Hyrule said in a old thread, Crash's franchise has seen many releases on their consoles since The Wrath of Cortex on GameCube, up to It's About Time in Switch and even exclusives such as Game Boy Advance (Huge Adventure, N-Tranced and Crash Purple: Ripto's Rampage alongside it's sister game, Spyro Orange) and Nintendo DS (Boom Bang!). Funnily enough, Crash is now associated with all three major console companies, considering that Microsoft has recently acquired Activision Blizzard (current owner of the franchise), so it makes sense to include him as our first platform-neutral and third-party character in this project.

Obviously, for his moveset possibilities, Crash has many skills, techniques and a wacky arsenal he can make use of in fights/battles, such as his famous/signature Death Tornado Spin (that allows him to rapidly hit enemies, float in the air and deflect projectiles), a dashing slide attack, aerial body slams, a soaring Rocket Jump, a bazooka that shoots out Wumpa fruits as projectiles, various different crates (such as arrow/bounce crates which works similarly like a trampoline and explosive TNT/Nitro crates), power-ups/items (like a jet pack to fly into the air and jet board for aerial tricks/boosts) and his mask partner, Aku Aku, to protect himself and even turn invincible for a short period of time. In Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time, he can even retrieve the Quantum Masks' powers in order to cross obstacles and maybe use against opponents by phasing various stuff (maybe himself for teleporting?), flipping his own gravity (potential recovery move?), perform a stronger Dark Matter Spin attack and slow down time.

Sorry, but I'm going to have to veto this. Crash is so tied to Sony's early history it would be disingenuous to submit him as a platform neutral character. His Nintendo history is rather lacking, as it's multiplats (that would also count for Sony) and a handful of mediocre handheld games.

Platform Neutral Character:
"Sonic's my name, Speed is my game"

Sonic the Hedgehog (Sonic)
1644909183044.png

About Sonic:
Sonic the Hedgehog
is main character of self-titled series made by SEGA and he is the Hedgehog, who can run really fast (Actully he runs 186,000 miles per second, which is very fast) and saves the world from Nefarious Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik. He is also SEGA Mascot, who replaced Alex Kidd (SEGA's Former Mascot) and Opa-Opa (SEGA's first official Mascot) and he is one of most famous Video Game character of all time and he even participated in Console Wars, but he lost and his company was forced to be third-party for everyone after Dreamcast's selling went down.
Speaking of Console wars, he was used to rivalize with Mario during 90's and he became friends with him when new millennium came around.

Although, Sonic is now 3rd Party character for every non-SEGA Company, so this means that he is tied to both Playstation and Nintendo in this game.

How he could work beyond Smash?
Well, Sonic could retain his moves from Smash, but he could have some of them changed like his aerials, Smashes and tilts.
The notable example how Sonic's new moveset changes how would like:
1644914102819.png

(Credit to twitter user アエガ aeyga, aka Aeyga_X for the example of how Smash Attacks would look like)
However, he still keeps his Super Speed, his playstyle and his stats in this crossover game.
He also has new Side special, where he he dashes straightforward and he has now a booster gauge on his UI. When it rans out, Sonic needs to wait to refill the gauge.

Why Sonic as new character?
I'm going to tell you why Sonic needs to be in this game.
First, because he has relation to both consoles and he had games on them like Sonic Forces, Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations for example.
Second, he is very iconic and famous video game character that people wanted him in Smash, so in this game he would also gain it a lot of popularity.
Third, Sonic has a lot of experiences in fighting games, so he could appear at this point.
Forth, Sonic appeared in a lot of video games as guest like Cookie Run Kingdom, Smash (Yeah) and even Angry Birds Epic (For crying out very loud, how really cool is that!?).
You know, I can't tell many reasons why Sonic should be in this crossover, but I believe that he can join the roster.

Platform Neutral Submission: Steve (Minecraft)

I'll keep this quick: Minecraft is very big, and is equally important to both sides of this game. His inclusion would also bring Microsoft to the table, which would make getting platform-sided characters like Crash and Banjo in much easier.

Going to go with something a little different being Axel Steel from Guitar Hero. Series has had exclusives on both nintendo & sony systems & may be under the Microsoft banner with the Activision buyout. Would represent the rhythm games & the impact this series & rock band had on gaming especially in the mid to late 2000s.

Crash was removed from the vote. You can swap out your second place vote if you wish, if you don't I will bump Chief up to second place and act as if you did not submit a third vote.

Voting will close when I wake up tomorrow morning, so probably somewhere between 9:30 to 11:30 AM.

Hi! Let's pretend i did this on time.

Sonic - 14 votes
Steve - 5 votes
Chief - 14 votes
Axel Steel - 1 vote
Ryu - 7 votes.

We have a tie. That means we need another round of voting. It's up at the top of the thread. You only get one vote. Keep in mind that whoever wins, their company gets the third party penalty removed for all further rounds.

In the meantime, time for a new job: Submit moveset changes for Link, and a moveset for Aloy. We're going to be using canon smash as a base, so we only need changes for most Nintendo characters. Meanwhile, Aloy needs a moveset. Only the four specials are needed, but if you want to add more feel free. You don't need to submit both, or a full Aloy moveset.

Blows dust off the thread
I haven't touched this thread for days...

Link Moveset:
Neutral Special: Bow and Arrows - Acts same, but Faster reload.
Side Special: Boomerang - Acts same, but it goes little bit further.
Up Special: Spin Attack - Acts same, but Link jumps higher at start.
Down Special: Remote Bomb - Acts Same.
Final Smash: Ancient Bow and Arrow - Acts same.

Aloy Moveset:
Neutral special: Spear - She throws a Spear that goes straight in downwards angle.
Side special: Strider - Aloy rides on Strider and it charges at opponents with strong force. You can dismount it at any time like Steve's Side B.
Up special: Ropecaster - She fires up the rope and it acts like Joker's up B.
Down special: Potion Craft - Aloy crafts a Potion and drinks it. It heals her stamina by 5%.
Final smash: Thunderjaw - Aloy summons the overriden Thunderjaw and it charges at opponents like Ganondorf's Final Smash.

Link's Moveset Changes:
When KO'ed, Link will use Mipha's Grace as his respawning animation instead of a normal revival platform, but only aesthetically. His Side Smash's projectile can now be shot with his Side Tilt instead when his damage percentage's at 0%.
  • Neutral Air: Ancient Batte Axe - Link pulls out the Ancient Battle Axe and then performs a somersault slash around him mid-air. Loosely based off the aerial axe attack from Breath of the Wild, except that Link will spin as opposed to just slamming it on the ground.
  • Side Smash/Forward & Back Air: Guardian Spear - Link performs a straight forward or backwards thrust/stab in-front of/behind him with the Guardian Spear, able to angle it slightly upwards or downwards while performing the attack akin to Simon and Richter's aerials.
  • Up Smash: Cryonis - Link uses the Sheikah Slate, alongside the Cryonis Rune, to create a giant ice pillar in-front of him, working similarly to Bayonetta's Up Smash.
  • Down Smash: Spin Attack/Urbosa's Fury - Same as his grounded Up Special, except that when fully charged, Link will unleash a powerful electric field around himself that hits multiple times and shocks opponents close to him, which functions similarly to Pikachu's Down Smash.
  • Grab/Throws: Magnesis/Statis - Link uses his Sheikah Slate and summons a magnetic energy forward to either grab an opponent in-front of him or use it as a tether to grab on ledges. Afterwards, he can freeze them in-place with kinetic energy before sending away in a inputted direction by attacking them.
  • Neutral Special: Royal Bow - Link stands in place and charges up an arrow, before firing it when releasing the special button. Like Olimar's Pikmin Pluck and Sora's Neutral Special, Link will change between five arrows each time he uses this move, rotating from Normal, Fire (burn effect and damages over time), Ice (slow travel distance and freeze effect), Electric (paralyzing effect and can break shields) and Bomb Arrows (a explosive with high knockback/damage).
  • Side Special: Remote Bomb - Basically works the same as his Down Special does in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
  • Up Special: Revali's Gale - Link summons a gust of wind beneath him to propel himself vertically into the air a great distance, before opening up his Paraglider to slowly descend down. While the move doesn't have a hitbox, it has a windbox that pushes opponents away.
  • Down Special: Daruk's Protection - Link momentarily shields himself with an aura for a short period of time, which works as both a counter and reflector, able to stagger opponents if they hit him with physical attacks and deflect projectiles back like Hero's Bounce spell via their Command Selection special.
  • Final Smash: Power of the Divine Beasts - Link reaches his hand forward as a Triforce appears in-front of him while spinning. If opponents are caught by this, a cinematic cutscene will play where they're transported inside a room from Hyrule Castle via Link's Sheikah Slate, where Calamity Ganon is shown there as he prepares to strike opponents. Link then calls upon the four Divine Beasts as they all quickly shoot huge light beams at the same time, blasting both opponents and Ganon while dealing massive damage to the former before launching them away as they're transported back to the stage. The Final Smash is based on this scene during the battle against Calamity Canon in Breath of the Wild.
Aloy's Moveset:
  • Up Smash: Sling - Aloy pulls out her Sling weapon and aims it diagonally upwards before firing a explosive blast orb. Charging the attack will increase it's distance before exploding, working like both Snake's Up Smash and Spike's Up Triangle (Slingback Shooter) in PS All-Stars.
  • Grab: Ropecaster - Aloy pulls out a bowgun-like weapon and fires up a rope in-front of her, pulling the catched opponent towards her as she grabs them. She can also use it for a tether recovery.
  • Shield Special: Variation Wheel - Similar to Shulk's Neutral Special, a menu wheel will pop up, allowing Aloy to choose different elemental arrow types, which change the effects of her Neutral Special and replaces a normal arrow.
    • Freeze - Deals low damage, but freezes an opponent on-contact.
    • Shock - Stuns opponents with a paralyzing effect.
    • Fire - Deals damage over time when it hits an opponent.
  • Neutral Special: Hunter Bow - Aloy nocks an arrow and pulls out the Hunter Bow by drawing it back, able to aim the arrow in any direction (straight forward or slightly upwards) by holding the button and using a control stick before releasing to fire it in-front of her. An arrow's effect changes depending on Shield Special.
  • Side Special: Watcher Dive - A Watcher spawns next to Aloy and she begins to override it. Upon releasing the button, the Watcher will launch forward for a lunging attack. If it misses, it will turn around and lunge again at the nearest opponent before disassembling and falling apart. The longer the attack is charged, the Watcher will do more damage and lunge further.
  • Up Special: Glinthawk Glide - Aloy quickly overrides the Glinthawk and then uses it to fly diagonally upwards into the air by grabbing into it with one hand before dropping down after it disappears when reaching max/apex distance.
  • Down Special: Tripcaster - Aloy places a trap onto the ground, able to activate them by pressing the button again like Snake's Down Special, creating two poles with a wire between them when detonated.
  • Final Smash: Thunderjaw Override - Aloy suddenly summons the Thunderjaw and then overrides it, knocking any opponents in-front of it by charging forward. A cinematic will play where it will fire out laser beams, causing some explosions with a barrage shot from its disc launcher and then finally finishes with a powerful foot stomp that crushes opponents beneath it, ending the Final Smash with them launching off-stage.

I don't know if it's against the rules on voting an own submission post, so maybe I'll choose Tankman's for this, just to revive this thread.

okay i might have overslept and left the thread dead for half a year. those things happen to the best of us - and apparently me as well.

Anyways, it looks like Tony's Movesets won! Congratulations. I have a new poll up on the top of the thread, asking about if we just want to automatically fix a certain mouse-sized hole in the roster. I mean, it's ****ing Pikachu. It's gonna be added at some point there's really no sense in wasting time on the whole nomination process. if we do it now we can get to cooler stuff faster (at current pace, only three years!) I forgot about the weird limitations on editing polls on Smashboards. this is on hold for now, until i can find a mod to help. Until then, think of this as a discussion period.

While that's being sorted out, there's another job that needs to be sorted out - What's Sonic's stage? This is really simple, just submit a stage you think would be neat. As a quick reminder, there are PSAS-style invasions in this game - but we'll sort that out later, once we have more third parties.

Green Hill Zone (Sonic the Hedgehog)

Green Hill Zone is one of iconic Sonic locations and it's the first world of Sonic the Hedgehog video game (1991).
Green Hill Zone is a green, hilly tropical area with palmtrees, totem poles and high mountains in background. It's located on South Island on Mobius or Earth in Sonic Multiverse/Universe and it's very known due to largest amount of appearances in Sonic games like the first game, Sonic Generations and Sonic Forces as sandy one.

Green Hill Zone was inspired by California (One of states in USA, where it lies in West Coast) and works of Pop Artist Elzin Suzuki. Green Hill Zone is one of most iconic Video Game levels in VG history.

The layout of the map is similar to smash's Hreen Hill Zone, but it's bigger and it has resemblance to Sonic Mania design, albeit with modern textures akin to Generations and Forces. The First expanded part is taken from first part of Green Hill Zone Act 1, where there is a hill with shield monitor as decoration.
The second expanded part is based on beginning of Green Hill Zone Act 2 of Sonic Mania.

There are camoes of Sonic characters on green hill zone:
  • Tails - Runs in shuttle Loop
  • Knuckles - Runs along with Tails
  • Silver - Runs along with Tails
  • Zavok - Runs along with Tails
  • Sally Acorn - Stands right next to Zooey
  • Sticks the Badger - Sits on Hill on left side of the map.
  • Amy Rose - Amy Stands on right side of the Map
  • Metal Sonic - Flies in the Background
  • Motobug - Rolls through whole stage. Doesn't harm anyone.
I feel that Green Hill Zone would be an obvious choice for a Sonic stage in NvP fighting game.
