I am resubmitting Lionel Lion for this job again. Give Between the Lions has ran for a decade straight on PBS Kids, we have Chicken Jane as an assist and what not, Lionel deserves to represent his own TV show Between the Lions. I loved this show as well as a child so a Between the Lions rep would make my younger self feel super happy.

Sorry for the delay but real life has prevented me from updating this thread. But....

For Job 1:
Lionel Lion (Between The Lions)
View attachment 344054
Lionel Lion is an enthusiastic young lion cub who lives with his parents Theo and Cleo and his sister Leona. He lives in a library and his life has been based around books. He's a geek, loves things young boys love, etc.

For those wondering, Between The Lions was a show ran on PBS from 2000-2010. Reruns aired till 2011. The show has a very strong connection with PBS and truly represents the image of PBS in the 2000s. The show promoted literacy and reading fundamentals. Lionel can fight with books, maybe some moves inspired by his hero Cliff Hanger, etc. Also, characters from Sesame Street made cameos once. Crazy stuff, huh? They may share the same universe.

For the roster, I feel we will go with 20 for base (we will discuss DLC later). I plan to update the intro page to make it look nicer eventually with stages and all that. Also, we may need to discuss ideas for a hypothetical reveal for this game and all that. Submissions for job 1 will be open for a day and then we'll go into voting.

Ms. O (The Odd Squad)

The Odd Squad is a show that involves problem solving using math, outdoor activities and parkour-elements. There have been a lot of kids that come and go in the show, but Ms. O has always remained a consistent one throughout the whole series, played by the same actor for every season.

I chose her as there's really not a lot of live-action PBS Kids shows out there, and the Odd Squad is a pretty great show, if not underrated.

Her moves would mostly be centered around the gadgets and inventions that appear in the Odd Squad as well as math-related stuff.

I want to resubmit Tinky Winky.

An extremely obvious show that I'm surprised he haven't gotten to yet.
Alright. Time to close this job. Now, it's time to vote.

Alright. Voting is over! Time to vote!

Lionel Lion: 7
Ms. O: 2
Tink Winky: 3

Lionel Lion is the 11th fighter for PBS Kids: Brawltime! A well deserving pick for the cub with a knack for reading.

Also, my stage will be used for WordGirl and the WordGirl moveset by Paraster Paraster will be used for WordGirl!

Now...the next job.

Job 40:

Submit a stage for Ms. Frizzle.

Lots of different scenes and moments from the show you can use for sure here. Submit away!

The Magic School Bus

What more obvious choice than the bus itself? You would fight on top of the Magic School Bus itself as it travels between different worlds, from outer space to underwater, to jungles, the polar regions and even across time and space! It changes it form to accommodate to the current environment it is in, and you can even see the students from the show inside the bus.

Layout-wise, it would take place on top of the structures in the city, with no major hazards, but a gimmick I did have in mind is slightly lower gravity since it's underwater.

This would be a traveling stage in the layout of Hollow Bastion (Super Smash Bros Ultimate) where it travels through the various locations of the Cyberchase series such as the Motherboard Control Center and the liking. It will be a competitive legal stage if chosen.

Event #7: Wordbot Roundup
Event description:
Tobey's Wordbot has gone haywire! Perhaps the only way to wrangle this mechanical menace is to team up with Wordgirl!
Stage: WordGirl's Super Secret Spaceship Hideout
Player: Wordgirl
Assist: Tobey
Opponent(s): Wordbot
Event objective: As Wordgirl with Tobey as your assist, you goal is to take out Wordbot, who exists as its own character and rather than a damage percentage, it has a stamina HP gauge, meaning you have to lower Wordbot's HP to 0 to KO the robot and clear the event. This also means Wordbot is very tough to flinch, almost to the point where it does not flinch at all from attacks. The higher the difficulty, the tougher Wordbot is and the higher its HP. Wordbot has all the same moves as Wordgirl, but with a few additional attacks that Wordgirl cannot use herself.
  • It lets out a shockwave surrounding it that can stun Wordgirl on the ground or act as a windbox in the air, encouraging the player to be cautious when fighting Wordbot at close range
  • Wordbot will hover high in the air for a few seconds before fist rocketing to the location where Wordgirl is at, dealing considerable damage and knockback. Similar to Crow's Drill Charge from Indie Pogo.
  • Wordbot will let out 3-4 electric energy balls that home in on Wordgirl's location one at a time, with a chance for each ball to explode upon contact.
Reference: Wordgirl Season 3, Episode 25a (Wordbot), except that Wordbot doesn't really go haywire in the show, it's just really lovesick. Also, the reason for Tobey's property damage is purely to get Wordgirl's attention, thus making it ironic for Tobey to team up with Wordgirl.

Event #8: Please let this be a normal field trip!
Event description:
Ms. Frizzle is taking her class on a field trip to a wonderful geographical location, but some hijackers jumped on top of the bus and, even though the students want them off the bus, each of them are interested in learning more about each of them. Ms. Frizzle hops on top of the bus to give her students a fun lecture before reaching their destination!
Stage: The Magic School Bus
Player: Ms. Frizzle
Opponent(s): Big Bird, Mr. Rogers, Arthur, Dash, Barney, Wordgirl, Hacker, Lionel
Event objective: Ms. Frizzle must KO every opponent in a specific order given by her students' requests (Arnold, Carlos, Dorothy Ann, Keesha, Phoebe, Ralphie, Tim, Wanda), which are displayed by thought bubbles from the students inside the bus. In order to do this, Ms. Frizzle must KO the opponent the current student is currently thinking of, to which the order of the students appearing and the order of which opponents each student thinks of are random as well. The opponents that spawn on screen will always have the current opponent Ms. Frizzle needs to KO, but KO'ing the wrong opponents results in failing the event.
Reference: Whenever the students of her class face problems, Ms. Frizzle will very usually solve their problems without any problems and hurdles for herself. Event title references the theme song.

Event #9: Digit's Extreme Hide and Seek
Event description:
Digit needs to find Matt, Inez and Jackie again, but somehow, they've decided to play extreme hide-and seek on him, so they're impossible to find under normal circumstances! Looks like Digit needs to implant some radar devices to find them!
Stage: Random for every playthrough
Player: Digit
Allies: Arthur, Dash (In Dot alt.), Wordgirl (Represent Matt, Inez and Jackie respectively)
Opponent(s): Hacker
Event objective: As Digit, you must place 3 radar beacons to find Matt, Inez and Jackie. To do this, you must place a radar beacon, which can be placed anywhere on stage by using <--/--> + B to place one in front of Digit (which is not a side special, it's just a move specific to this event), and then Digit must wait within the range of the radar to fully activate it, spawning an ally for you. Of coarse, only 3 radar beacons can be placed on stage, and each radar's activation progress is indicated by a progress bar on top of them, and if Digit gets out of range of the radar beacon, it will not progress until Digit gets in range. Occasionally, Hacker will come in to impede Digit's progress, and Hacker must be KO'd before Digit can resume the radar beacon activation. Once all 3 allies are summoned, you must face Hacker once again, defeat Hacker when all 3 allies are summoned to clear the event
Reference: Matt, Inez and Jackie being pulled into Cyberspace whenever they are needed for the current situation in that world.

Alright. Here are my event matches ideas.

Event #7: Tobey or Consequences
Event description:
Someone is babysitting Tobey. However, he and WordGirl get into a fight of vocabulary! Can you help WordGirl win the fight?
Stage: WordGirl's Super Secret Spaceship Hideout
Player: Wordgirl
Opponent(s): Ms. Frizzle (she represents Tobey's sitter)
Assist for Opponent: Tobey
Event objective: As WordGirl, you must KO Tobey the assist. If you self-destruct, get KOd by Ms. Frizzle or KO Ms. Frizzle, you fail the event.
Reference: The WordGirl episode Tobey or Consequences

Event #8: The Magic School Bus In the Time of The Dinosaurs
Event description:
After going to a Dino dig, Ms. Frizzle takes her class back to prehistoric times. But, on the way, they meet some strange looking dinosaurs on the way to the time, so Ms. Frizzle must jump on the roof of the bus to fight these dinosaurs. Can you help her protect her students from the prehistoric beasts?
Stage: The Magic School Bus
Player: Ms. Frizzle
Opponent(s): Barney x3
Event objective: As Ms. Frizzle, you must KO the three Barneys. If you get KOd or self-destruct, you fail the mission.
Reference: The book The Magic School Bus in The Time of The Dinosaurs and the Magic School Bus episode The Busasaurus

Event #9: A Battle of Equals!
Event Description:
Hacker plans to pollute Cyberspace with dangerous cyber static by tampering with the satellites. Alongside this, to make the battle fair for him, he cloned himself. Digit and his friends must stop Hacker before it is too late. Can you help them save Cyberspace?
Stage: The Cyberchase Stage
Player: Digit
Allies: Arthur, Dash (In Dot alt.), Wordgirl (Represent Matt, Inez and Jackie respectively)
Opponent(s): Hacker x4
Event objective: As Digit, you and your allies must KO the four Hackers with your allies. If you lose all your allies, get KOd or self-destruct, you fail the mission.

What you're seeing above is all I have in mind for the stage's layout. This stage is pretty much this game's Battlefield.
I was thinking of the regular Battlefield layout for PTV Park as well with the PTV Pal P-Heads standing in the back occasionally singing "This is P-B-SSSSSS!" and the dog will zoom by too.

Alright. Job 43 is closed. PopCultureCorn PopCultureCorn and his idea won for the PTV Park stage but I'm gonna throw in my Easter egg on his stage.

Also, Pop's idea won for Event #7 and my ideas for Events #8 and 9 won too! Congrats to us both.

Now, to the next job.

Job 44:

Discuss how stage music will work and what music you want on each stage.

Should we go the route of NASB and have original compositions based on the music of the franchises or go for the officially licensed music? Also, how many tracks should be on each stage?

For me personally, I think we should go with 3-5 official music tracks on each stage (a Melee-esque amount).

There should be 3-5 music tracks for every stage, and they will all be remixes of existing music from PBS Kids history.

That being said, I do have some music tracks I have in mind for each stage (Note that any remixes I find on YouTube are not mine, so credit goes to the original music artists who remixed them, and also to the original composers of the original music as well):

Sesame Street:
Can you tell me how to get to Sesame Street?
Rubber Ducky
"C" is for Cookie
Pinball Number Count
"B" is for Book

Once upon a Restaurant:
Arthur Theme Song
Cue #2

The Land of Make Believe:
Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood theme song
Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood theme song
When you feel so bad that you wanna roar, take a deep breath and count to four

PTV Park:
Various jingles heard in PTV Park IDs
Various music heard in PBS Kids: Get Moving!

Treehouse:
Barney & Friends theme song
The Colors of the Rainbow
Best of Friends

Animal Junction:
Zoboomafoo theme song
Wild Kratts theme song

WordGirl's Super-Secret Spaceship Hideout:
Wordgirl theme song
Hero Climactic
Falling Sky

The Magic School Bus:
The Magic School Bus theme song
The Magic School Bus Explores the Solar System: Mercury
The Magic School Bus Explores the Solar System: Earth's Moon
The Magic School Bus Explores the Solar System: Uranus

CyberSpace:
Cyberchase theme song

Zoom Stage:

Ok, so even though this post is not technically related to the current job and not the main focus right now, I thought I'd share several images of my concept for a PBS Kids Platform Fighter that you can see for yourself. I made the first one and I commissioned the bottom two. Funny how they feature characters not currently in PBS Kids: Brawltime! yet.

I'm hoping to make the stage like the WarioWare stage but the micrograms are like the skits and all.

This one, I actually had a tough time figuring out! I imagine its layout would be grounded at its base, and when no skits or games are being held, there would be several small platforms in random layouts. On normal intervals, the small platforms will float away while there will be skits and game show like elements where there would be certain objectives, such as find the most colorful insect, eat the all the fruit pies, or gather ingredients to make slime, and the ones who complete the objectives will get certain buffs, afterwards, the platforms will return. A little like the Tower of Heaven stage in Rivals of Aether.

Ms. Frizzle
Series: The Magic School Bus
Original book debut: The Magic School Bus at the Waterworks (July 24, 1986)
Show Debut: Gets Lost in Space (September 10, 1994)

"Seatbelts, everyone!"
Ms. Frizzle fits into the category of slightly-above-middleweight to very-lighter-heavyweight, having above-average jump and speed, with the only downside to her character traits is falling slightly faster than other characters.

Gimmicks:
Many of her attacks are designed in a way that she tends to use the correct tools or methods to get the job done, depending on the situation or direction she has her sight at, and when used correctly, they can assist Ms. Frizzle to their fullest, in reference to how she is a good problem-solver in the show. Every of her attacks are also themed around the various locations she has taken her class on field trips to and the various subjects taught in the Magic School Bus episodes.

Moveset:
Light Neutral: Going Cellular, Ms. Frizzle presents a random call in front of her (Can be a bone cell, muscle cell, skin cell or nerve cell) which damages others in front of her. If the button is press repeatedly, Ms. Frizzle will present multiple cells at once before unleashing them all at the end of the combo to launch fighters in multiple directions. Strong variant of the move has Ms. Frizzle present a BEEG cell in front of her.

Light Up: Making a Rainbow, Ms. Frizzle shines a flashlight through a prism to create a rainbow above her, which has a very-wide hitbox. Strong variant of the move has Ms. Frizzle create a bigger and stronger rainbow.

Light Down: Get Planted, Ms. Frizzle has two beanstalks grow from the ground, surrounding her and launching fighters upward. Strong variant of the move has 2 taller and wider beanstalks grow from the ground.

Neutral Special: Wet All Over, a 3-step setup move like Villager's timber, when the move is used the first time, Ms. Frizzle places a tub of water on the ground, and when attacked, it catapults the water inside of it, pushing any fighters along the way. When the move is used the second time, Ms. Frizzle will use a heat lamp to evaporate the water in the tub (Otherwise, it just deals a very small amount of fire damage with no knockback), which then the water condenses into a cloud what floats a considerable distance off the ground and above where the tub was initially. When the move is used the third time, Ms. Frizzle then points up to the sky, causing the cloud to summon 3 powerful lightning strikes and also rain down, with the raindrop damaging fighters gradually, afterwards the cloud disappears.

Up Special: Blow Its Top, Ms. Frizzle gets launched into the air by a mini volcano, which covers a considerable amount of vertical height. If used on the ground, the volcano will stay on the ground for a short time, continually erupting and causing damage. If used in the air, the volcano forms a small solid platform which lasts for a certain amount of time or until Ms. Frizzle uses the move again in the air.

Down Special: Lost in Space, Ms. Frizzle has several model planets (Random for every time) orbit around her that acts as a reflector for physical projectiles and an absorber for energy projectiles which can actually heal her. Kinda like a combination of the Star Fox characters' reflectors and PSI magnet.

Entrance: Ms. Frizzle flies in stage riding on a miniaturized version of the Magic School Bus as an airplane before jumping off and onto the stage.

Miss Fiona Frizzle can be seen standing on stage before the real Ms. Frizzle comes in and kicks Fiona into the background before getting ready to fight

Taunt:
Ms. Frizzle will spin around in a few circles like a ballet dancer before striking a pose with Liz on her shoulder.

Victory: Ms. Frizzle can be seen making a winning pose with her entire class congratulating her.

Defeat: Ms. Frizzle applauds the winner.

Alright. I think PopCultureCorn PopCultureCorn hit all the points for a perfect Ms. Frizzle moveset.

Now, we're going to do two stage jobs now.

Job 47:

Submit/design a home stage for Lionel Lion.

Job 48:

Submit a stage idea for a PBS franchise that is NOT represented in this game in ANY form. The franchise will not receive any fighters on the roster but will be eligible for assists.

I'll submit my stage ideas later.

One of Lionel's favorite series, The Adventures of Cliff Hanger, is represented here as a stage for Lionel himself! Stage layout would be like what you see above, with a grounded blastzone on the left and on the right is a bottomless pit. Cliff Hanger himself can be seen on the background of the stage, minding his own business and occasionally cheering on other fighters when they do something "amazing", such as KO'ing another fighter.

Stage from unrepresented series: The Island of Sodor

I feel that Thomas the Tank Engine is too iconic to leave out of this game, and I thought one good way to represent this franchise is through a stage! The stage is set on top of the engines, and the engines you fight on will be random every time the stage is selected (Engines include Thomas, Percy, James, Edward, Gordon, Henry, Toby, Emily, Spencer and possibly others). The engines normally drive around the Island of Sodor's railways, passing by memorable locations such as Brendam Docks and Knapford Station, and carrying their respective coaches and trucks (Annie and Clarabel for Thomas, Henrietta for Toby, Gordon pulls his express coaches, Troublesome Trucks for most others). Basically, think of it like the Spirit Train stage in Smash Bros.

Lionel's Stage: The Barnaby B. Busterfield III Public Library

We still do not have a library stage so why not this one? I'm thinking this stage can be the Northern Cave for this game. Basically, it starts outside the library then travels into the library where you see the various customers and Lion family members reading books. Occasionally, characters like Gawain, Arty Smartypants, Marmy, etc. appear in the background. A competitively viable stage.

Stage from Unrepresented Series: The Tarrytown Sky Parade (Jay Jay The Jet Plane)

I know Jay Jay the Jet Plane is a more obscure property but it is slated for a reboot soon. Jay Jay would not have many good characters to be fighters or even assists so why not just give it a stage to represent the series? Basically, this stage is the PokéFloats of the game. Based off of the episode Old Oscar Leads the Parade, you stand on the planes as they move in a line like a parade. It goes from Old Oscar to Jay Jay to Tracy to Snuffy to Herky to Big Jake to Savannah. Occasionally, the planes will move from one side to another as if they are dancing. Overall, a fun little sky stage.

Story Mode

I know this might sound a little too extreme for something like this, but I feel that actually coming up with story mode chapters with each of their own plots and scenarios would make for really fun future job opportunities. They do not always have to be platforming stages, but they can also consist of cutscenes leading to preset battles akin to Shrek SuperSlam!, as well as unique boss battle stages and maybe some minigames!

I'm thinking about making a story/adventure mode its own job where we come up with pitches for the mode. Something smaller is what I aiming for in terms for this job.

If Story Mode is too big for this job, I have a resubmission:

Stadium Mode
A collection of minigames, just like in Smash Bros., here are some of them (I currently have three in mind, but if we can only go with one, we can negotiate. I can also add more Stadium mode games if negotiable)

Whack the Water Balloons: Pretty much like Target Test from Smash Bros., except the targets are water balloons. Each character gets their own unique Whack the Water Balloons stage.

Piñata Punchdown: Fighters are tasked with breaking a series of piñatas, which take quite the beating to break open. There are two modes for this minigame, the first being time attack, where you have to break open a certain number of piñatas within a time limit, and the other being score attack mode, where you have to break open as many piñatas as possible in a certain time limit.

Toy Box Tacklefest: Similar to Abyss Mode from Rivals of Aether and Multi-Man Smash from Smash Bros., where you get to battle clones of the fighters made from toys, among other tasks.

My idea is:

Training Mode

Yes, something simple and easy. Basically, like Smash's training mode, you can train on any stage and there's also a Training stage as well. Here, you can practice combos, tech, any fundamentals, etc. There is also a tutorial guide in here as to how to play the game (similar to the Rivals of Aether tutorials) as well as character specific gimmick tutorials as well. Overall, a good mode for beginners to learn how to play PBS Kids: Brawltime!

Alright. Job 49 is closed! For the stages, Cliff's Cliff will be Lionel's stage and The Tarrytown Sky Parade will introduce Jay Jay the Jet Plane! to our game so no characters can be fighters from Jay Jay.

Alright, so since this is Job #50, I figured I'd make this next job a special one:

Job #50: Let's get modern! Nominate a character from a PBS Kids show from the "PBS Kids 24/7 channel revival" era, meaning you should nominate a character from a PBS Kids show that debuted from 2017-present. While the majority of the character roster right now is mostly comprised of characters from PBS Kids shows from the classic era, from the 1990's to the 2000's, I feel that a modern PBS Kids representative is well-deserved, since even those shows are genuinely good and also because PBS Kids: Brawltime! needs a character which kids of today can recognize. Just like before, it must be a character with a strong connection to the PBS brand/identity, and please explain the character, the show they are from, why they deserve to be in the roster and how they can fight/what they can bring.

Like I said above, PBS Kids: Brawltime! needs/deserves a character in the roster which kids of today can recognize. While I know this job may seem difficult, due to the huge unfamiliarity of modern PBS Kids to most people of today, you can always do research online about modern PBS Kids shows, since they are actually quality shows and are pretty loveable too. Otherwise, you can refer to this list of modern PBS Kids shows here!

My submission for this job is a resubmission:

Xavier Riddle (Xavier Riddle and the Secret Museum, 2019)

His show centers around his adventures with his younger sister, Yadina Riddle and their friend Brad as they go to the Secret Museum and travel back in time to meet historical figures where they learn lessons from them to form ways on how to solve their problems in the modern world.

I think he deserves a spot in the roster because his show is one of the best shows of modern PBS Kids. The premise of the show is really fun and charming, and the show has an adorable and awesome art style as well, looking like it was inspired from Calvin & Hobbes, Peanuts and Earthbound. (It's been confirmed that the art style of the show as well as Ordinary People Change the World, the book series that inspired the show, was inspired from Calvin & Hobbes and Peanuts, according to Ordinary People Change the World illustrator Chris Eliopoulos)

Xavier Riddle would be a semi-floaty character who specializes on hi-tech and acrobatic circus performances for his moveset. They would revolve him using complex techniques that allow him to maneuver the attacks to make the most out of them, making him the Ness of this game.

Molly Mabray (Molly of Denali)

MoD_icon_dog-0_1.jpg

Molly Mabray is the main protagonist of the show Molly of Denali. The show is about Molly Mabray (her native name is Shahnyaa), a 10-year old native from Alaska; specifically the fictional village of Qyah as she vlogs about her life with her family, friends, her Malamute Suki, and other residents. The show was the first American nationally distributed children's show to feature an Alaska Native as a main character. The show is one of the best portrayals of Native American life (given how bad Native Americans have been portrayed in pop culture).

I feel Molly deserves to be in to increase the male:female character ration to 9:3 (if she is chosen) and for the fact that she can have an unique play style. Her moveset can involve a gimmick of vlogging as well as the various activities she does in Alaska. Throw in her Malamute Suki in as well. I feel it's time we have another character who we can have fun with a moveset with as well as positively portray Native Americans in this fighting game as Molly of Denali is a perfect example of Native American culture for children.

I was going to do Elinor from Elinor Wonders Why but I feel we should get another human fighter that is female and another group of people represented in a fighting game that are barely represented in fighting games positively. Also, my father is fascinated with Alaska as he watches a lot of shows involving hunting and house hunting in Alaska.

Quick reminder:

The post-2017 character will be the final character for the launch trailer for PBS Kids: Brawltime! We will then have the 12 characters for the launch trailer and we can begin marketing soon!
