I'm thinking of how we can make this effective... and the best thought that comes to mind is have a mini group of 64 members that discusses LOGICAL change possibilities (i.e. no rediculous changes), and then have our ambassador suggest them to MLG and the rest. This way, we have a group of people that is involved (so more of the 64 community is involved in the decision process... and more minds are better than one or two), plus there is less weight on one or two people.

This is not a backroom or anything... just a bunch of people having an intelligent discussion over what could happen. The ambassador can be the messenger between us and MLG. Once the 64 boards and MLG come to an agreement to what should be the necessary changes, there will no longer be a need for the group, so it will end.

Any objections? yays? nays?

(and members of this group would be voted in by the 64 community of course. I think having everyone discuss a single change would be way too much).

mlg is a company interested in making money and will never invest in a graphically outdated, unappealing (to the majority of current fatass, lazy gaming population), 10 year old game

if you consider why they took off Melee for MORE Halo 2 at the time (for more $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$) it's clear that they will never care about ssb 64

---

Actually i'm not clear on what "changes" you guys want. I can't think of a single thing

isnt a ''smash ambassador'' a little bit too nerdy? O.o

Must we have a president, a secretary and a janitor as well?

What you mean by nerdy? That's just a term. And Im pretty sure it's used correctly in this sense.

am⋅bas⋅sa⋅dor – noun
1. a diplomatic official of the highest rank, sent by one sovereign or state to another as its resident representative (ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary).
2. a diplomatic official of the highest rank sent by a government to represent it on a temporary mission, as for negotiating a treaty.
3. a diplomatic official serving as permanent head of a country's mission to the United Nations or some other international organization.
4. an authorized messenger or representative. Abbreviation: Amb., amb.

We need someone to represent our little Smash64 community as a whole. So an "ambassador" is what we're looking for.

Doesn't matter if it's a bit nerdy as long as it gets things done.

What you said Blue Yoshi is half right. The community is choosing what they want and the ambassador is voicing it for them (Ambassador can put in a bit of input as well) We don't need a "mini group" as you can tell the people that post here already is our "mini group" unless you're talking about the people from Kaillera as well. That's a different story

Well yeah... that's what I meant more or less. We have a mini group (I guess you could say the 64 community) that discusses what we would think should be done, then propose it to MLG and the rest of them. We can write it up, and our ambassador (most likely you seeing as how the votes are going so far :p ) can just send it to MLG. Having one person send a message is better than 100 people sending the same message. I think that's why they wanted a single ambassador.

But yeah... that is what I'd suggest we do. The ambassador going 1v1 with them may not go so well. We should discuss this as a community for what changes we think are logical and going to be benificial to our club (i.e. a forum that is used often enough for it to be worth it).

If we're going to succeed in making changes to the 64 forums, we'll have to do it peacefully... and not like we did in that thread (which is still dead since we left lol). We made our point, and now lets put our heads together and make changes.

Yup.

But we can't do much right now until MLG_JV officially appoints an ambassador so we'll have to wait on that decision.

Doesn't mean we can't start discussions within the 64 community.

Should we make a thread for all changes (i.e. all in one), or discuss each potential change in a different thread? Also, should we discuss one change at a time, or do them all at once?

Near is too childish and makes irrational decisions.

If I had to choose someone it would be Jaime or Zenyore because he knew he was wrong and apologized to me in his sig <3 lmfao... My reasons for Jaime are mainly for the reasons Sheer said. I'd be quick to vote QuickMan! but he's not on anymore :(

Even though MLG dropped Smash I think they have a lot of respect for the smash community, or melee community atleast. The year after they dropped smash they still sponsored 3-4 big national melee tourneys, something they certainly wouldn't have done if they didn't respect the smash community. They also purchased smash boards and maintain it for us, so we can always have somewhere to communicate with each other. I know when Melee was on the MLG circuit it was extremely popular. The halo players loved watching smash both in person and on the live streams of the events. A bunch of the top halo pros were even impressed to the point where they started to pick up melee and enter the melee events.

The ssb64 community not getting the recognition it deserves doesn't have anything to do with MLG imo, but more so with the melee/brawl communities. Thats my opinion atleast, I have a lot of respect for MLG.

Don't pay attention to this guy. We all know his experience here on Smashboards (making threads and getting pissed because they kept getting locked. quite CHILDLIKE)

Also I don't think we should take Unknown seriously if he doesn't even LIKE being here on Smashboards (he calls it ***boards or something) and not to mention Unknown cringes at the sound of "competitive play".

I don't mind who the ambassador is as long as it's somebody eloquent , who has time and doesn't act on his own.

LOL facepalm moment.
I woke up late. Pretty bad for a tourney host <__<

The worse thing is that the people there forced them to play on Wii's

I rest my case.

Childish. You really want someone like THIS as an ambassador to your forums?

how about your local mod as ambassador?!

many of you may have grudges on me but i have kept these forums in line, at least for the most part xP

i do think we should have a collective group to review all the ideas first before letting one person pass them forward, if one person picks the ideas that get presented it may not accurately portray to opinions of the majority

I believe Surri does do more work than the other people mentioned, especially near -waits for response post flaming me somehow-

This is even though Surri locked my posts and practically banned me lol... Maybe if he can put his bias aside and actually do what's important for you guys, he can definitely be more of help than say... near?

I can't read any of Unknown's posts because I have him in ignore.

They're probably all lies because he's just mad or something.

what about two ambassadors? two is security if one of them can't get the job done so well. Wrath and JaimeHR could do a good ambassador team

Not very ambassador-like to get bogged down in petty arguments with morons.

Note: I have no interest in who is ambassador, just throwing that out there.

Oh is that what it says? I was trying to figure out what YW was.

I still like Yoshi's idea. Seems more efficient.

Yep. Blue Yoshi and I already started brainstorming on MSN.

But I feel a bit bad because MLG_JV hasn't even said anything yet about this

And yes Yoshi Wrath was an old nick of mine.

He's always getting into petty arguments with people... For example, I got permabanned from galaxy for NO reason. Near/Wrath is not even telling anyone why...

I haven't heard anyone other than you ever say anything bad about Near.
Well honestly, who else matters? Surely not you. It's also probably because you're either not around at the right times or because not many people are as outspoken as myself. Just because you don't see it, doesn't mean it doesn't happen...

Honestly, Near did something very unambassador like, and got into ego buffs and brought his own credibility down. I was thinking of him, but now, Jaime or Blue Yoshi seem much better picks.

I think I should expand on this. Near and I (using proper english lol) quickly brainstormed/discussed the effectiveness of ideas suggested in the poll thread made a while back (some we agreed to, and some we didn't... and for the most part we completely agreed). We also discussed a couple of methods of brainstorming/discussing how the community should discuss the potential changes (just so that we have organization in the discussions... and so that we do end up going somewhere).

And I don't want to get involved with the unknown/near war, but in my opinion, near was simply defending himself. Sure it may not have been the best method (or choice of words), but... what was he supposed to do?

Probably the best thing (for near, unknown, and everyone's sake) is to stop arguing over this. Unknown said he votes against Near as ambassador, so lets just leave it at that and move on.

all the best leaders count their chickens before they hatch, dont they?

keeping this race clean would be nice, hopefully people will vote for consistent workers over ...near xD

Blue Yoshi would have my vote because i honestly dont think i can win this race due to your popularity, and thats a shame, and very very ironic!!

however i would like to do this as a continued part of my roll as mod, but apparently this is all over my head o.o

I honestly don't know what I did to be popular with all the votes... maybe I just don't make anyone mad? :p

but either way, for no matter who ends up getting the most votes, I think this is way too big a job for one person to do alone... as I think we've all already agreed on. And as this does affect the entire community, everyone should have some say in what happens.

I think at this point I should expand on my post I made a while back:

http://www.smashboards.com/showpost.php?p=8621903&postcount=42

(too long to quote).

I see I missed a vital part in my explanation... so here it is again.

We have the 64 community as a whole suggest and discuss changes that they would like to see, then have a small 64 group (I'm guessing 5 or so people) discuss in detail what should and should not be in. Although the community discussion will result in a whole bunch of good ideas, we will have to narrow it down to a few. Having a small group discussing what would be the best end result would be better than having a large group (since if one or two people disagree... we won't be going anywhere). Of course, the group will post their suggestion to the community for them to look at and offer suggestions.

Basically my point is that for a generic idea and brainstorming / discussing a large number of things, a large group would be best. But when it comes down to the details, a small group would be best. At least from my experience... (my high school's Student Council had executive meetings, where only the executives of the council would meet. This is where we would discuss all the important stuff).
