Honestly, if Sakurai did talk to SE regarding another Rep i could very much see Square Requesting Sephiroth considering his popularity and wouldn't have to deal with nearly as much legal BS and DQ or Kingdom Hearts.

Now that I think about it the spirit fights might be a huge pain in the ass on the development side of things considering that a lot of them are set to act in a very specific manner so they likely had to screw with their AI for each specific fight to do that

So I should want Sephiroth because he'd be easy?
I want you to consider a character even easier to get than Sephiroth who has had far more importance to the hardcore Smash fanbase. That's all.

Honestly, if Sakurai did talk to SE regarding another Rep i could very much see Square Requesting Sephiroth considering his popularity and wouldn't have to deal with nearly as much legal BS and DQ or Kingdom Hearts.

DQ and FF7 biggest problem is the music. SE doesnt make good deals for themselves with music, with the composer generaly owning it and having a say on where it gets used.

It wouldnt stop a DQ rep, but expect an outstanding amount of 2 MIDIS TRACKS buymyalbum

When was first time that Square Enix has to include FF characters in some other video game and how bad/good was it? (I'm not leaning toward kingdom heart BUT first time that they put FF characters in some crossover game)

what really gets me is the lack of spirits, which kinda makes me worry than the conversations didn't went too smooth and that sakurai may have just pulled a miracle to get cloud again.

I mean... square enix only had to add a couple of spirits of the 6 Final Fantasy games they are about to release on teh switch and enjoy literally free publicity in what is looking to be the most installed game on the switch library.

Just imagine how much of a boost would smash alone give to Rondo of Blood/ Symphony of teh night if they would be avaiable in switch.

They announced it in the September Direct alongside several other FF games, I don't think it means much honestly. Final Fantasy is a series that sells itself.

It's real fishy. I don't think Cloud was the last character to be included in Smash at all, but somethin's definitely up if it was so hard to get him into Smash Ultimate in the first place. You know something's off when Konami of all companies was far more cooperative with Sakurai this time around than ****ing Square.

Call me a skeptic, but I think Verge is wrong about the Square-Enix rep this time. It just...doesn't seem likely at the least that we'll see any semblance of the sort within the Fighter's Pass. Resting against their palm is a metaphorical gun and a bullet with Sakurai's name on it. They're prepared to pull on that trigger if he goes out of their line. So far, he's done the only stuff he's seemingly allowed to do. If nothing else, Geno seems like a sensible choice assuming Spirits don't deconfirm. Seriously, what could Square want to shill that won't just be 2 songs and nothing else?

So how's that "soup-of-the-day" Sephiroth tasting?

I highly doubt he'd be a character, simply due to his design. I mean look at his blade, it's pretty much twice the size of the buster sword at least.
That's not fun to play against...and it's one of his major design elements, so resizing it or leaving it out would not be true to the character at all
