Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

Is anybody even going to try and guess Party Princess and Aliens? (Aliens is a single character, just to clarify lol)

Holy **** what if Nintendo gave him like 15 characters and we get 3 ****ing seasons
That actually isn't too unlikely
If i learnt something from my experience as a LEGO buyer, is that companies who succeed understand how positive for them the fan-service is.

While i plan to buy Ultimate at launch, i want to share some things that we know about that i don't find as good as the rest of the game.

These don't make the game worse or better, but they still felt strange to me. (Expected, because nothing is perfect).

Here they are:
-Samus keeping the Other M suit.
-Donkey Kong having just generic gorilla sounds again.
-Mario not using Cappy a lot.
-No Ocarina or Twilight skin for Link.
-No new Metroid or DK stage.
-N64 stages not being remade like the Melee ones.
-Alph still as a skin and not a separate fighter.
-Pac-Maze gone.
-The small amount of Final Fantasy stuff.
-Mute City from Melee not returning.

And i think that's about it.
They feel strange to me, but Ultimate isn't worse or better because of these.
Honestly I agree on most of these. Not that they make the game bad, but they're little things that make you go "huh, not how I'd have done it."

i mean they could always

continue development without sakurai
Not to put the guy on the pedestal, but can they even do that? Afaik, every fighter until now designed by Sakurai.

sakurai would never abandon one of his beloved IPs
But at one point he has to call it a game. It can be after first wave of DLC.

Honestly at this point I just hope Nintendo knocks our socks off with the first DLC.
I just hope that they end with a bang. As much as I love the base game's newcomers, the reveal order was definitely a bit poorly chosen.
Starting strong and ending strong would be great for the DLC.

I don’t think Nintendo would be that incentivized to pick characters for the fans to “sell more”. I feel like most people would buy the DLC regardless, so Nintendo will focus on using the DLC to point consumers in the direction of Smash Bros -> Other Game, rather than the other way around.

sakurai would never abandon one of his beloved IPs
Imo, it seems like more of an obligation in the sense of “nobody else can do it better”.

I was joking. I'm sorry if I annoyed you, it was completely unintentional.
It's not solely on you. Certain people feel that the only way to support a character is to shoehorn them into every conversation, and it honestly is super annoying. I just don't want to see even MORE people go down that path, that's all :)

Yes. If Nintendo wanted to make a new Smash Bros. and Sakurai didn't want to do it, they would simply hand the project off to someone else.

As much as I respect Sakurai's talent for game design, Smash would definitely continue without him if he chose to leave it.

EDIT: Sakurai, not "Samurai", stupid autocorrect...

I feel like Nintendo could pull some fan-demanded picks by showcasing them as a promotion for a new project. Some examples could be:

-Sylux (Prime 4).
-Bandana Dee (A new Kirby project).
-Crash (The new title for 2019).
-Banjo (possible return and N64 mini).
-Rayman (Possible new game).
-Elma (A sequel to X to make up for the difficulties to port the first one to Switch).
-Spyro (Port of Reignited Trilogy).
-A second Ubisoft rep.
-Heihachi (Tekken stuff on Switch)

And so on.

Who's the guy from the right?
That would be Shu Takumi. You may have heard about him from Dino Crisisor Ghost Trick.

But he's best known for being the creator of Phoenix Wright and the Ace Attorney series. Both of which have seen quite a notable deal of support to be included in Smash.

I prefer Guile's theme in Ultimate over the Street Fighter V version.

It sounds more patriotic.

I think that at this point, my most realistic hope for DLC is an ARMS rep.

Maybe just to revive a little spark of interest in the series in case Nintendo ever wants to do a sequel. There are SO many great characters, stages, and music tracks they could pull from that game.

I am open to any newcomer.

But if i can predict anything, it would be that the picks will be better than the ones that PS All Stars got before cancellation.

And the cancelled DLC for that one was way better.

I wonder if they go with Ribbon Girl, now that Spring Man is an assist. But it would be weird without him.

Hmm... I just don't want ARMS to wait years to get a character in Smash, but an AT for now is better than what most series got, I guess.

First off: The first indie rep should be Gunvolt and y'all should agree with that unless you can come up with a good reason against it.
Second: This is unrelated to Smash but I'ma post it here anyhoo:

Good thing is, DLC was pretry consistent, save for Corrin. People's expections just exploded when Cloud was only the 3rd to last character

How would you feel if we got a Golden Sun rep, but it comes from a new title for Switch?

I kind of hope they'd pick someone more interesting than Springman or Ribbon Girl.
Twintelle, Helix, or Master Mummy would be so cool. Honestly, ANYONE would be really cool. That game had such stellar character design.

Yeah the girl in the new Pokemon Let's Go! trailer looks like Green from the manga.

Her clothes are different from Leaf's.

Though Green and Leaf may be the same person
