Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

I think there are a lot of people who want Daisy in the game...just because they want Daisy in the game! Why do you think she is still in games and got her own standalone amiibo? Why was she picked to be the only new character in Mario Run by herself?
Just wanting somebody and being popular doesn’t mean a character should be/would be a good addition to Smash Bros.

Boo has an amiibo. Chain Chomp is in Mario Tennis Aces. Should they be in Smash now because they have merchandise or a big push in a sports game? I don’t think there’s reasoning there.

On a gameplay level, Daisy doesn’t bring much to the table. Sure, she could have flowers. But is she a clone of Peach? That’s boring. That doesn’t make a character that I want to play.

The wonderful thing about Smash Wii U was that even if I hated a character when they were announced (Ex: Robin) I was interested in trying them and it quelled my hatred. Having played Mario games my entire life, and playing countless hours of games with Daisy in them, I can confidently say that, compared to the wide selection we still have, she really isn’t interesting.

Captain Toad? I can see something in him. Daisy? Eh...not so much.

There are a ton of characters who have people who support them for Smash. That isn’t something that makes Daisy special.

Oh, again with the semantics, there was the promotional image with Dark Pit and the Smash characters along with Palutena's trailer referencing him in the same way that Game and Watch was alluded to along with his statement on clone characters that implied there was at least one more.

Honestly, at this point, you people genuinely make me feel like a conspiracy theorist for just connecting the dots. Holy ****.
morbi that wasn't until E3 2014, which was like 3 months before the game's release. You LITERALLY said "I highly doubt a character they were marketing since the beginning was added last minute. Pretty sure Dark Pit, at least, was planned much earlier. Not that it makes a difference, really.". You HAVE to either admit you're wrong or show me when Dark Pit was marketed in the E3 2013 announcement trailer

You're not very bright are you? Saying "I had to choose between these characters and Magic Man was more unique" and "We've got five minutes left, let's do this low effort clone who was gonna be a skin anyway" are the same isn't the same
Still hypocritical.

Like he says Chrom is too similar to Marth and Ike but immediately contradicts himself by including a really blatant clone of Marth.

The principal of that move is hypocritical no matter how desperately you or anyone else tries to justify it.

Same could be said for Toad, realistically.

I cannot tell if you are serious. Chain Chomp appears playable in, to my knowledge, literally one spin-off game. And Boo, well, actually he is fairly underrated in the same respect that Koopa and Goomba are and I, along with hopefully everyone here, prays we do not get them in Smash because they are generic enemies, not full-fledged characters.

The game-play argument is piss-poor because Sakurai can make something out of nothing, or nothing out of something. One only need to look at the roster for examples of both.

Eh? I personally hated most newcomers to this game, how they played, I mean. Same can be said about Brawl, really. So that is probably just a personal issue. But if someone I did not want into the game was added, I would be mildly frustrated, not going to lie. Especially because there are not many I am opposed to.

Your guess is as good as mine
And Toadette who was created for spin-offs even got to star in Treasure Tracker, Mario Odyssey, Mario + Rabbids, Mario Run, and Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam.

If any sports spin-offs stars are doing better than Daisy? It's Waluigi. But ESPECIALLY Toadette. She's the one who is getting the ''You know what? You're actually pretty neat" from Nintendo right now.
I'd actually love to see Toadette as a newcomer. Being a celebrity amongst the Toads she could command an army of them to fight for her, using her enlarge ability to quickly change size to attack herself and use some Paper Jam inspiration for some nice papercraft attacks. She doesn't have a chance in hell appearing solo, but I'd still like it.
I don't see them as likely since they were from remakes and not from the newest gen of Fire Emblem reps.
I don't think we should view Echoes like it's just a port or a simple HD remake. With the amount of effort put into the game and with how old the Japan-exclusive original was, I can see Celica being a legitimate candidate who lines up perfectly for a shot at the roster as an Echoes character, not just a Gaiden character brought back to life.

Chrom was too similar IN COMPARISON TO MAGIC MAN. How is it hypocritical to make skins and decide to make them playable last minute because you could have some extra characters? Literally choosing one or the other and padding isn't the same

Here's achallenge.

Take each third party series represented in Smash and think of a new stage for each of them.
Sanic - Studiopolis Zone

Metal Gear - Mother Base (MGSV)
MotherBase.png

Mega Man - Central Highway

Pac-Man - Pac-Maze DX (from Championship Edition DX - changing layout, neon colouring)

Street Fighter - Lair of the Four Kings

Final Fantasy - Midgar Slums (keeping it to FF7)

Bayonetta - i haven't played this series

Doesn’t this conflict with your previous point of people wanting characters because of wanting characters and not representing things? Like...Daisy representing just sports and not herself? I get why you may not see something in Daisy if you have never played as her that much, but saying that Daisy has no potential comes across as ignorant in my opinion. There are many ways she can use flowers in Smash without it being out of character. Maybe she can trigger an energy sapping flower ala Lips’ Stick if she hits the sweetspots in her attacks? Namco also knows that Daisy is an outstanding pitcher, why not give her a pitching glove for example? Daisy is loud and energetic...why not portray this in her animations when she attacks in a dress. No one really acts like Daisy would in a dress.

Boo got an amiibo because of his iconic enemy status and glow in the dark gimmick.

Don't care. It's still hypocritical. If he actually stuck true to his word, he wouldn't be there to begin with.

I'd argue Lucina is even worse in this regard actually. Like he's say Chrom is too similar to Marth and Ike, yet still have the guts to include Lucina right after saying that. I don't even like Chrom much and even I thought that was a kick in the teeth.
Then evidently the rules for clones are different to the rules for unique newcomers.
Chrom didn't make it because Robin was more unique and was considered at the start of development. Lucina made it because she was planned as an alt for Marth initially but stuff came up that made her have to have her own spot. It's really not that hard to use your brain you know.

But then again Gamergate trash don't use their brains properly do they? Nice alt account by the way.

If what you're saying is true, then it's honestly infuriating that they'd shill for a game they won't even put on a Nintendo platform.
They have said they are testing the capabilities of putting the game on the Switch and will announce their plans later. It probably is. Also its coming to mobile so at the very least they will give the Switch the mobile version.

@Opossum Just to make things clear when I rate, it is because of Celica's different method of utilizing swordplay and magic that it would be difficult to make her a semi-clone of Robin right? Sorta like with Chrom compared to Marth and Ike right?

Not Opopo but Celica has a finesse swordstyle and her magic works differently than other Fire Emblem games

I cannot, for the life of me, find the actual image. I did not, however, state that he was around in the e3 announcement trailer. He was in Palutena's trailer. I would, normally, with humility admit I was wrong; however, the image does exist. It was the basis for my speculation that he would be in the game. So, to that end, I do not have to do either. I sincerely apologize. It was, I believe on Sakurai's twitter and looked to be drawn on whiteboard.

Either way, I cannot even find what Sakurai stated about Ridely during Brawl. Anytime I try to search, even with keywords from his actual statements, articles from past 2014 show up. Pretty annoying that I am so tech illiterate.

Because there WAS no image. And by stating he was marketed since the beginning, you did INDEED state he was in that announcement trailer, the LITERAL beginning of the game's marketing

It's still weird that a clone character was planned earlier, since they're historically last minute. Makes me think he was going to have an original moveset but was just a low-priority character overall. That explains why he's shown predominately holding the staff in art and stuff.

Now I'm thinking about Dark Pit as a kind of long range/sniper character that'd fill in a niche in the roster and I'm kinda disappointed now.

When you get the chance, do play Bayonetta. It's on the Nintendo Switch and PC so it's not hard to get it. Believe me it's worth the time, albeit there's a learn curve to it.
Don't really have any interest in it. Don't much care for the character.

I like Celica but if we're going to get a THIRD fire emblem clone then count me out.

That's because a clone character WASN'T planned earlier. Again, we only knew of any of the clone characters even making an appearance in the game a few months before release, AKA a little before it went gold. Plenty of time to make some artwork and stuff

Anybody who trusted Marcus Sellars had one foot out of reality anyway tbh.

It just sucks that once in a blue moon he's got valid information, so it's not like he'll be discounted completely.

Eh, you would remember it if you around for speculation last time.

I did not say the literal beginning, however, so it is weird to assume that. I just meant that he was around well before any "last minute" decisions could be made. Arguably, the rest of the clues indicate the same.

At least someone is working at fake leaks. We need more leaks. Or even "leaks".

I certainly hope not (otherwise I probably have a memory condition). I definitely remember this, but I thought there was one with less characters and Dark Pit. Albeit, I do remember people used this to prove that Game and Watch was more or less confirmed.
You're talking about the picture with the figures, right? Charizard was also there

You said since the beginning. And if you're unable to find this image and nobody ELSE is able to find this image, then... Doesn't that mean? You're just wrong and either made **** up to gloat smugly at others for 'not knowing' orto save face?

I already, awhile ago, indicated that you were reading far into it with my "again with the semantics." I just meant the first year.

Eh, someone already alluded to its existence. So I could care less. It just means that I am not crazy which is priority number one over procuring it for you, to be quite honest.

No, there is a third possibility that it existed.

Right, but no one called Game and Watch a last minute addition, either.
