Odd not to see Bayo as a Sega character.

Not to me. I see her as a Platinum character who was published by SEGA once.
Bayo 2 got published by Nintendo. And I imagine Bayo 3 will be as well.

And yes, I know SEGA is credited at the end of Bayo 2. But to me, she's still a Platinum character, what can I say?
She's probably as SEGA as Red and Blue from Gunstar Heroes or Dynamite Headdy who were made by Treasure.

You'd play as ROB and prof Hector would appear in the background controlling him. Kind of like Pokemon Trainer

Does Geno really deserve a spot?

He hasn't had an actual appearance, outside of a cameo which even then is a decade old cameo, in over 20 years (a long time in video game life span). As a Nintendo character he is in no way an all star, or even relevant to his series, and as a third party character he is in no way recognizable outside of the Smash community nor is he a gaming icon, which more or less is the standard for guest characters. Even Bayonetta is more of an icon.

The one game he originates from is not incredibly well known (wasn't released in Europe until Virtual Console and it's sales are meager compared to other Mario series titles) and even then it's not like he is the title character from that game, he's only a party member.

His two major points he has is Sakurai likes him and that he's popular in the Smash community. Neither of these shout "deserving" any more than characters like Toad, Dixie Kong and Bandanna Dee.

Anyway those are just some of my points for this friendly debate to talk about something new in this thread. I'm 100% down for Geno and want him a bit just for his fans, but I'd like to hear some stuff behind why he would be considered a deserving character. Or not ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ just trying to find an interesting topic.

I generally agreed with that on Geno a few months ago, but he goes a long ways back. I feel like many characters who've been wanted since Melee who are still very popular (in the top 10s) "deserve" to be in, as that is a feat onto itself, and the longest standing ones left are Geno and Banjo & Kazooie.

There is such a thing as deserving it due to sheer popularity and fan demand.

Geno doesn't deserve it for any other reason, that's obvious. But the fact that he's remained so prominent for over a decade certainly makes him deserving in my book.

If anyone tells you Geno's an icon or something like that they're lying. But I feel sometimes popularity simply outweighs that.

Does anyone deserve a spot? Sakurai doesn't have strict qualifications for fighter and there can be a great number of reasons to justify making a character into a fighter. Sakurai himself was interested in Geno simply because he thought he'd make an interesting fighter for having a gun for a hand. That's good enough for him.

People seem to think that these Smash fighters needed to tick off something specific in order to earn the spot. But do you even know what those checkmarks are if they actually exist?

No, no character deserves to be in Smash, that's made up. However people definitely think that and I wanted to discuss why people thought Geno was deserving when compared to other deserving characters.

So yea I know no one is actually deserving, mostly because they aren't real people.
