Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

Can you find a Sakurai interview where Sakurai states he wants Goku in Smash bros? No? Well We have one where he explicitly states he wanted Geno. So... I guess Geno does have more creds. =P
I believe in an interview he referred to wanting Goku in Smash is tantamount to wanting Spongebob Squarepants.

I am talking relevant wise. Honestly, Geno has been absent for good reason. He is an overhyped character only present in one game. He isn't even officially owned by Nintendo. Goku is as relevant as it gets and as for the creds he has it all.

Which I already stated in my previous post but still has more credentials than Geno.
This is a video game crossover, this divides Golu's credentials to 1000000, then multiply them with zero.

Sorry, didn't mean for it to come off like that. I am all for Goku and Banjo Kazooie but do not want steve in the game.
Who said anything about Steve?

Guess who also isn't officially owned by Nintendo...
And as for credentials, if you don't have the "born in a video-game" box marked off, I'm sorry but you're going to get turned away at the border.

Like, altogether?

Well I know that Yoshi's Island was released in October 1995 in the US. Also Super Mario Odyssey last year...

Ooo, and Majora's Mask in October 2000. Some of my favorite games were released in that month :yoshi:

Goku and and any non-video game characters are possibly the only characters that could ruin the roster for me.

Thankfully it will never happen.

Hmmm, Majora's Mask came out in November 2003...for the GC. Interesting...

Got nothing else I can think of.

Spongebob has been on nintendo consoles, SPONGEBOB FOR SMASH!!

That's what every Goku fan sounds like. Appearing on nintendo console video game /= making them a video game character in the first place.

How exactly could goku ruin the roster when he is the most requested character in the game?
a. Statistics, please.
b. Just because other people want something doesn't mean I have to.
c. I don't like dismissing characters as memes... but Goku is a meme. A lot of the
aura around him is ironic.
d. Not a video game character.

To be honest I sorta want goku to be in just to see the reaction online. That said while smash fans will be mad. Kid s will be really excited if he were in.

Let me rattle off a list of characters that have more requests than anyone in Smash 4.
Shrek
Harambe
Corey Baxter
Obama
John Cena
and somewhere in that mess is Son Goku.

The common theme among all of theme is that they're not videogame characters and thus won't be put into a videogame crossover.

Goku would be the exception of that rule since he is widely accepted everywhere. Banjo-Kazooie and Goku should be the next newcomers if they want to end the newcomers with a bang. Shadow and Geno would kill the excitement just like isabelle did.

I'm paraphrasing from Trihex's stream where he, ZeRo and other notable people talked about Smash Ultimate after it's Direct, but the moment you add Goku - or practically anime in general, you're going down a very slippery slope to where you're gonna have to add in characters like say Naruto or Deku to keep up the demand, thus practically rendering the message of Smash Bros. where it's supposed to be mainly about video game characters.

Also, I will continue to post this image until the day I die. Remember, no Mii Costume had a separate splash screen.

People freaking out about someone's opinion about Goku and Geno news at 11

Tomorrow, Don't miss our new show "Deal or No Deal" and find what's on the side of the Box!

But before, a prevention ads from our sponsors "Geno land"

"A Disney Keychain? NOT VIDEO GAMES! NOT IN SMASH!"

Soon followed by our interview of our Lord and god Sakurai, regretting to make those games for people as ungrateful as us!

So you don't think Geno is popular with the community? I'm very confused here. And would people really be offended by Shadow getting in?

Ok let's get it out of the way, Son Goku from Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball GT, and Dragon Ball Super (owned by Funimation, Toei Animation, Shuesha, and Akira Toriyama [plese support the original release]) Cannot, Should not, and Will not Ever be in Super Smash Bros.

Not in Ultimate, not as dlc, not in the sequel.

It will never happen, not as long as Sakurai is head of the game.

Super Smash Bros is a celebration of all things Nintendo and Gaming

Goku is a character who did not originate from games

He Debuted in the first chapter of Dragon Ball in the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump, Long before the friggin NES was a thing i am sure.

Literally every character in Smash at present was a video game character at the time of their conception, to have one that is otherwise is missing the whole ****ing point.

AND more than that Goku CANT work in super smash bros.

Smash is a game in which two characters try to beat each other off of an arena, plain and simple its Nintendo Sumo, But a character like goku who can fly indefinately and in every dragon ball game is mostly flying would defeat the purpose. Furthermore with how man forms he has (kaio-ken, Super Saiyan 1-3, possibly 4, Blue, god, Ultra Instinct, Mastered Ultra Instict) it would take forever to get them all in right to do the character justice. Most DBZ games just have ten different goku's with different powersets in different forms

And dont get me started on the attacks

Kamehameha would be easily broken in smash being a constant wave ala the Zero Beam final smash. Instant transmission is a direct lockon teleport. Genki Dama may as well be a screen nuke (albiet very impractical). Then theres Solar Flare which would annoy the **** out of everyone, just think nintendogs with a chance of damaging your RL eyesight and TV.

Look i get it, I love Dragon Ball too, alot of us do.Heck i even got pics of my Xenoverse 2 Avatar if anyone would like to see. But facts are facts, it wont work no matter what way you look at it. He is not a video game character, his moves would not work in the kind of game smash is, thered be no way to fit all his forms, and itd just open the door to alot of bad things later on. Such as Shrek.

This has everything you need to know for which is better. https://i.imgur.com/lZjLI9P.jpg
So let me get this straight. You're trying to tell me that Goku, someone who is not a video game character to begin with and is considered a meme character within the Smash community, has a better shot than Geno who is a video game character with a decently sized following, and not only that, a character that Sakuria himself stated he wanted to include in the series?
Dude no offense, but you are tripping way too much right now lol.

I played smash 4 a few weeks back with my college buddies, and my friend who’s foreign exchange from India was playing with us. When he saw the roster the first thing he asked me was “Where’s Goku”?

Those of us who were smash fans in the room started laughing and I had to explain why Goku isn’t in. He proceeded to pick MewTwo because he “looked like a dude from DBZ”.

All I can say is Goku would be another familiar face for some casual fans, would help a lot in getting more people into the game. Would make my friend happy, that’s for sure.

I don't want Geno either, such a boring and obscure character. But you can't compare Goku chances with any other video game character.

Edit: Oh, you're talking with a HUGE Dragon Ball fan here, but i know separate things properly.

I think the funniest thing about Goku, even beyond him not being a video game character, is that despite him being the "main character" of DBZ I don't think he's many people's favorite character at all. I suspect if you just polled DBZ fans that Vegeta would prove to be the most popular character, and most people who don't like Vegeta would probably name someone like Gohan as their favorite (to be fair, even though Goku was kinda presented as the main character, Gohan was functionally the main character of DBZ).

Ridley flies and they made him work. There is no excuse to not include besides him not coming from a video game first but hes the exception because he is a pop culture gaming icon.

I think that’s true in the West, but in Japan Goku is still the most popular, at least based on some polls I’ve seen.

I now support Peter Griffin for Smash.

+ Many video game appearances
+ Tons of moveset potential
+ Highly requested

It's only a matter of time

I'm not advocating for Goku, but this point is heavily flawed.
Goku would just be one of MANY characters who would be nerfed in power between "canon" and Smash.
Both in flight and attack strength.
