Chrom's up-b is the only move difference between Chrom and Roy though. Yes he has different hit boxes and idle animations, but you are incorrect to say that they were wrong about having only one move difference.

I mean official information from Sakurai/Nintendo is typically good enough for most people, but okay.

Check his reveal trailer and his character trailer. The only different move he has is Ike's up-b.

Oh and he's an echo not a semi-clone because Sakurai said so.

Sakurai never said "the only difference between these two characters is one move."
If you want to watch a trailer and pretend to know every asset of the character, then I suppose a lot of the initially revealed "semi clones" from previous eras are just "clones."

As far as I'm aware

1- We know very little of many of the echoes.
2- That is not the only difference from Chrom.

But ya know, go ahead and project your thoughts. The game will be what it will be.

Between his two trailers and the doubles match that got uploaded, Chrom's differences aren't too major.

- Balanced Blade like Lucina, but based on Roy instead of Marth
- Up Smash hits thrice instead of five times and has no fire effect (and this may have just been the trailer, since he didn't use Up Smash in the doubles footage)
- Different Up Special, idle animation, taunts, victory poses, and Final Smash

Knockback angles are likely the same as Roy's, since Lucina shares that with Marth. Besides the up special, he's a fairly standard echo...its just that that one thing makes him stand out among the other echoes.

I think it depends how unlock conditions work in Ultimate. However, I'd much prefer to unlock them naturally through gameplay as that is more fun and I don't have a pressing need to try out every character straight away (even if Shulk won't be there from the beginning).

I don't think so. I also would not pretend fanmade terms would be considered in the game creation. I guess that makes us different.

Even though the terms are fanmade, the fact is that the things that they describe still do exist.

For example, even though there is no official “semi-clone” term, the devs obviously know which characters are derived from other characters to various degrees. Since the term is arbitrary, they likely think about it differently than we do, but they clearly have some kind of distinction or else the “Echo” label would’ve been used on several more characters.

It is funny to me how in previous speculation periods, I was all about imagination as far as how much words dont mean what they seem to mean, when it comes to Sakurai. How he is in the game so much for surprises, that he would mislead us at all costs.

While I still feel that way in part, its odd to me to be the one so regularly saying, "wait for information, stop inferring." I must have aged a lot in the past four years.

Fan-made terms aren't considered in game creation, if the implication you're making is that you'd prefer Japanese devs wouldn't use English fan-terms.

And just because they're defined by fans, doesn't mean they suddenly don't exist.

L-cancelling, wavedashing, crouch-cancelling have never been officially defined by Smash nor recognized, but that doesn't mean they don't exist. Likewise, clones and clones that heavily differentiate themselves from their original counterparts, ie semi-clones, exist, acknowledged or not.

Sakurai still likes playing with us.

But at the same time, keeping secrets just can't really happen in 2018 with the Internet the way it is.

Information, no matter how well kept, is going to leak, which is why I think Sakurai's being very up front with us this time about a lot of things.


He doesn't want an ESRB leak 2.0 to happen.

L-Cancelling was entirely defined by Sakurai since the first game. It's on the original Japanese site as is.

Since I likely will have to wait for Christmas to get the game and so I’ll have time to read up on all of the characters’ unlock requirements, it might depend on what those requirements are.

Depends on what unlock methods there would be. For the most part I want to earn this entire roster. Though I do want to get Sonic as soon as possible. If for any reason it takes forever to get to Sonic regardless of the method then yeah I'll unlock him with my amiibo. But if it's quick enough I'm sure I'll prefer to unlock him naturally anyway.

I'll also be capable of getting Pac-Man and Mega Man early as well. Luigi too if the starting roster is the Original 8 and not the 12 (I don't think that's been made clear yet). But I probably won't regardless anyway. Sonic's the only exception if it takes hard work to get everybody. Because in that case, I at least want to put that hard work into playing Sonic a whole bunch at the same time.
