There's nothing wrong with them. It's really hard to explain. Diddy Kong and K Rool look fine to me. I just don't like the way most western characters look. I don't like the designs that Western artists go for.

I don't like the way Sora is designed, and I don't like the way most Western characters are designed (not including Sora, because he's not a Western character). What part is confusing? There are no Western characters aside from the Shantae characters that I like the designs of

Maybe it is narrow-minded, but because of the fact that I mainly play JRPGs and anime-style games, and have pretty much all of my life, I've never really liked the design of Western characters all that much.

Bayonetta was largely conceived as the ideal woman in the game's male creator's eyes, and the gimmick about stripping to attack is some grade A pandering. I would agree that Bayonetta is less frustrating than Shantae from a feminist perspective, and certainly there are far worse perpetrators out there (even Samus is honestly problematic, as making her a strong, usually-brave warrior and hero can only make up for so much objectification and fanservice), but Bayonetta deserves her fair share of flack for blatantly pandering to thirsty boys, as well. I'm a bit surprised someone as aware of the issues of female representation in video games would even like her as much as you seem to, honestly.

Yes, there's some issues with Bayonetta clearly. Namely there are people who are gonna turn what she is and does on it's head and still pander. And you seem to be a bit confused about her origins and nature yourself.

HOWEVER...

She was designed by a female artist for one. So therefore her look was created by a woman who wanted to create a female who could represent female empowerement through sexuality and freedom of sexuality.

And that's what Bayonetta is actually about. It's about female empowerment through sexuality.

She's in control of her sexuality and that's the difference in her and other sexy female video game characters created by men. Often times those characters have no agency in their objectification or sexuality.

Bayonetta is in full control of her objectification. She has agency in her situation. It is her strength. Her womanly power. She relishes in being sexy and powerful. It is a tool that she uses to defeat her foes just as much as her actually weaponry.

It's not just a female character who is ''WOOOOO I'M SEXY LOOK AT ME WOOOO!"

There's not thing wrong with a female character being sexy if designed by a male or FEMALE.

The problem is so often these characters have no control or agency in their designs or objectification. Bayonetta is one of the very few examples where her sexuality and the sexiness of her design is all in HER hands in HER games and is part of her POWER. It was DELIBERATELY designed that way.

Yes, some men are gonna use her and that as pandering, but that's gonna happen irregardless. It happens to characters like Isabelle for god sake.

Arguing about if Smash has some sort of arbitrary rule about only representing western franchises is silly because we can already say with a certainty that such a pointless rule doesn't even exist.

No, he's not a playable character. But he is proof that Sakurai doesn't have some sort of unreasonable grudge against franchises born over seas. Getting him in as a trophy is still a huge honor and his trophy was clearly made with a lot of respect for the character.

Reminder that Shovel Knight was big and demanded enough to be noticed by Sakurai and included as an AT. I don't think enough people realize how big of a deal this is, Shovel Knight, an indie game from a newly created studio became big enough to get some sort of representation in Smash. And it's not like with, say, Rathalos or Bomberman, Capcom and Konami were already giving other franchises for Smash so getting those in was just a bonus. No, Sakurai went out of his way to make a deal with a studio for "just" an assist trophy because he recognized the character and his game.
And you don't know how happy this makes me, to see videogame fans start their own studio by themselves, and start by making a game that's better than most big release titles and then continue to support the game with free updates and have that one game continue to grow so much that it managed to get a spot in what's the biggest video game crossover of all time just fills my heart with joy.
Here's one to Shovel Knight, he's getting everything he deserves, but god, does he deserve so much more.

EDIT: Is this a post for the secret moderator forum? I've never posted there, but at this point Ive posed this question four dozen times, and honestly cannot see a clear answer on my own (as I just described it as "illogical").

Fair enough. I did not think about that part. I just thought of the big picture: the fact that they're from DK and Metroid, Japanese franchises.

Uh.. you're kidding right? Kamiya literally had a female artist design Bayonetta because he wanted a woman's perspective and influence on the design. It has nothing to do with being the ideal woman in Kamiya's eyes. If you're going to claim stuff, do your damn research.

Hey, I remember Final Fantasy XV! ...Back when I bought it on release day. Felt really happy that I bought a PS4, but torn because the game pretty much paywalled story content for DLC, adding onto the salt that the game had been in development for 10 years. They had all the time, man.

My Thoughts on FFXV Pocket Edition HD: This isn't the worst case scenario for the Switch, really, since Square says that they wanna go through their back catalog for the Switch and get some of their older games onto it, so MAYBE WE CAN GET PORTABLE FINAL FANTASY 6-9 AND CHRONO TRIGGER???

Hopeful, but I wouldn't really care less for this iteration of FF. I may check it out, depending on the price.

**** started out as the worst version of the game only to become the best version after like 5 patches. I mean there's the issue as to why they even launched it at that state, but hey.

That guy who predicted FFXV Pocket Edition on Switch an the correct date probably only knew that that FFXV Pocket edition on Switch would be announced at a Nintendo Direct on September 6th and decided to run with it. Numerous other things he said have already been proven wrong. He had the start time and length of the direct incorrect and I'm sure there are already discrepancies with the game list he gave.
