Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

What time do you all predict Smash for Switch will be announced? If it is announced the Smash community is going to get wild.
That depends on whether it's a port or a new game. For a port I'd say anytime between the upcoming direct in January and E3 2018. If after E3 a port's not announced, then I'd say the window would close on that. I'd say Smash 5 would be announced anytime after Q4 2018.

How would everyone react if ARMS got two characters?

Spring Man, and Ribbon Girl as a clone of Spring Man.
I'm half-expecting this to be the case, but I think Spring Man has the most priority if we're gonna see ARMS gets a playable character in future Smash Bros games. If so, I can imagine Spring Man would be the one who would have better ground mobility and power at the cost of speed, where as the reverse is true for Ribbon Girl, lighter in the air and quicker, but weaker attack.

What cuts are all of you worried about the most?

With Smash Wii U/3DS having such an incredible roster...an incredible, large roster. There may be some faces we don’t see returning to the fray.

I’ll break this down into 3 categories.

Worst Comes To Worst (7-10 cuts)

Most Likely (4-6 cuts)

Wishful Thinking (0-3 cuts)

I’ll go first.

Worst Comes To Worst: Cloud, Ryu, Corrin, Lucas, Roy, Mewtwo, Lucina, Dark Pit, Dr. Mario.

Most Likely: Cloud, Ryu, Lucina, Dark Pit, Dr. Mario.

Wishful Thinking: No one.

I was just thinking to myself that the DLC and 3rd Parties may not come back. Especially the ones that fall under both categories. I’d hate to see anyone go really.
I hate cuts in general - Especially if they're MVCI-tier and cut out several fan-favourites and leave the bare minimum with hardly anything new.

I'd rather not talk about who I want gone from the roster cause it'd upset quite a few people, myself included, but I'd say Dark Pit is probably the most likely to get cut, mainly because he's one of the least different clones introduced in Smash. If you ask me, I'd prefer a re-tool of Smash 4 clones, but keep some things for these characters intact like basic normals or mechanically similar Specials with different weapons or abilities being used.

So i didn't really know where to post this, but since i'm guessing this acts as a General thread for Smash Switch, so i'll just post this subject right here: Are you hopeful for this game's solo content, or would you rather not get your hopes up in case of dissapointment?

I've always felt like Smash had endless potential for excellent solo content, given that it's a crossover from so many franchises, it could borrow so many little gimmicks from each series as a means of creating something great. That's what Smash does in concept, but it could apply that concept for its solo content: We've seen party games with RPG elements a la Dokapon Kingdom, we've seen RTS Gameplay in a Game's Adventure with SoulCalibur III ( While talking about SoulCalibur, Weapon Master is essentially an Event Mode with Story Elements to them, and free to choose characters with purchasable weapons ). So yeah, Smash doesn't need to be just a Beat them All game or a semi linear adventure one. I feel with both Subspace's Stickers, or Smash Tour, that there was potential for more, but unfortunately, that didn't happen.

Cuts:
Worst Case: Falco, Dr. Mario, Roy, Ike, Lucas, Lucario, ROB, Toon Link, Lucina, Dark Pit, Duck Hunt, Cloud

Most Likely: Dr. Mario, Roy, Lucas, Lucina, Cloud

Wishful Thinking: None (Other than people who think clones take up spots for unique fighters I do not see how anyone can wishfully think for cuts.)

@GoldenYuiitusin on Incineroar for Smash, I meantioned that he needs to piss fire. Got another have-to for him.

He has to run exactly like this.

At this point, Incineroar is already a joke character. Lol :troll:

That is an incredibly awkward run cycle.

Incineroar running on four instead of two isn't anything new. Typhlosion does it too.

With stubby legs like those, I guess I should of expected it. Still, they really should of, erm, gave it a test preview. He looks like a man running on four in his fursona. :025:

Still hilarious though. I'm glad they stuck with it.

It's still a bit jarring when considering the unused running animation in Sun/Moon has Incineroar run on two legs as opposed to on all fours.

And even more jarring is that instead of going with a run like a big cat would, they went with how a gorilla would run.
So is Incineroar part ape? :p

Hey everyone, I'm new here. Well...sort of. I first found this site way back in 2013. I've been creeping through the forums from time to time, but I never actually joined until now. It's a shame too, because I missed out on a lot of good speculation and excitement back then (Although it's probably good I missed out on those Ridley debates. I wouldn't have lasted long on this site if I got into it with another user over the whole "He's too big and Sakurai already said 'no'," argument). Better late than never I suppose.

I don't know. I think I could learn to love it (Regardless of how weird it looks).

Hey I'm not saying I don't like it. Fact being- I love it. Like, I'm 100% real on that. Its the goofiest thing next to its fire spin attack.
Or Flamethrower, which is more like a beam in the movie. :p

Somewhere, Jigglypuff mains are screaming internally.
You know what they say, BuffThePuff.

Also, playing a bit more Quest 64 should help me think up some nice ideas for a moveset/gimmick for Brian. Issue I'm having is making the moves translate well(considering spells have 2 or 3 level upgrades overall...).

I'm going to go with this coming January, it's not exactly the most rational time to expect it but it just feels like the right time to me.

I swear if Incineroar got in and was a lethal joke character I'd...

...congratulate Incineroar's new mains on getting their character in Smash and also managing to not get butchered by the joke status. :p

I hope in Smash for Switch they buff Falco for him to be like Melee Falco. I miss Melee Falco, oh well.

Puff is the joke character, even more than Little Mac. Good point.

A moveset would be pretty interesting for Brain, I would like to see. Continue your research if you want to, you got me hooked.

I made a moveset a very long time ago, but it lacked balance. It was just basically a simple "okay, just slap it on" kind of deal. Only neat thing was the Final Smash, which had you hold the D-Pad/Control Stick in one direction and use that related element(Up/Fire, Left/Earth, Down/Water, Right/Wind) for an ultimate attack of sorts. Extinction was for Fire(which either did immense damage or knocked a stock off of the enemy, whichever would not remove all their stocks), Magic Barrier for Earth(made you immune to all the non-physical attacks for a short while), Healing Lv 2 for Water(restored a huge amount of percentage), and Ultimate Wind(dealt unblockable damage, unless you got that shield up just then, and it could nearly break it as is, which wasn't the highest damage count ever, but extremely effective in hitting an enemy). I think there might've been technically 8 possible ones, depending if you were over or under 100%? I don't remember.

Anyway, most of it was some spells becoming stronger if you held the button down or not. Like how you can charge Smash attacks, essentially. That said, I do have a Brian support topic, and it's available in the Smash directory. I'm still looking for suggestions on how to handle a unique gimmick. My biggest thought was an Magic Point-related one. Not exactly like Robin's, but moreso that it increases your attacks' strengths, but also you can't actually do things like full charges without MP alone. Thus, you need to actually take smaller shots to charge up for your best stuff. Not sure it would work well, though.

Can Incineroar mysteriously grow a sophisticated outfit to rip apart each time it does the move? :p

It would be cool if each character can have their own story mode.

With their own dialogue interacting with each fighter not like classic mode with random fights but something with adventure to it & have their own cut-scene at the end as a suggestion.

I'd prefer getting a non-starter Pokemon, but I wouldn't complain if Incineroar was added. Creating a moveset for him doesn't seem all too difficult, and the fact that Ash's Litten seems to be the starter that will get the most character development in the anime (and isn't burdened by the status of being the comic relief starter that we always seem to get now) certainly doesn't hurt his chances either. He's got a genuine shot of making the cut and the potential to be a great character.

Yokai Watch seems like a pipe dream to be honest. Especially with how much it has declined over the past year or so.
Ideally, I still think it has a shot, but the popularity of Yo-Kai Watch has taken it from "national craze" to "niche" in Japan. It still has some popularity, but not enough to justify a Smash Bros. playable appearance.

Though I will support Jibanyan getting in regardless.

Last I've checked, Little Mac isn't even considered a joke character, especially if he goes all Giga Mac on you,
Keep in mind that a skilled player who is great at gimping can destroy any Little Mac who is unaware and not careful. A skilled Little Mac can ruin anyone's day though; especially the low tiers.

It doesn't exactly help knowing that Little Mac has one of the worst (if not THE worst) recoveries out there.

So I have a challenge for everyone. Let's say that you were in charge of cutting five characters from the next Smash game. Here's the catch - none of the characters can be Smash 4 newcomers. Who would you cut and why?

If it were up to me, I'd probably cut...

:4drmario:: He's a clone character and not incredibly important to the Mario series. I'd like to think that dropping the Doc wouldn't be nearly as devastating as it would be with the more unique Mario characters.

:4feroy:: Roy is actually my second choice when it comes to cutting FE characters. However, since he's a semi-clone and the FE franchise already has 5 other characters (and will undoubtedly receive more in the future), I think he's more dispensable compared to the others.

:4rob:: No character has ever gotten cut for a lack of popularity, and I certainly don't think R.O.B. will ever be seriously considered as a potential cut in the future. Still, most of the veterans on the roster seem far too important to cut. Due to a lack of options, I'm forced to drop this lovable piece of Nintendo history from the roster.

:4lucas:: This was the hardest one for me to choose. To be blunt, EarthBound will NEVER get another character unless Nintendo finally does something with the series. I really don't want to ditch one of the only two EarthBound characters that Smash will ever get, but Lucas just isn't nearly as important as the other guys.

:4jigglypuff:/:4mewtwo:: Pokémon already has a hefty number of characters, so I think it can afford to take a hit. Neither of these two deserve to be cut, but Pikachu, Charizard, and Lucario are just so much more prominent. I would've liked to have picked Greninja, but the rules prevented me from doing so. At the end of the day, I have to choose what's more important to me. Do I keep the classic yet irrelevant character that's been here since the beginning, or side with the iconic Pokémon that's garnered a decent amount of fans from both it's own franchise and the Smash games?

Haha R.O.B will never be cut, especially with its significance in Brawl. If you state it as even likely otherwise, its because you probably have something against the character.

R.O.B is completely unique, physically and emotionally.

Hoo boy, that's tough.

:4drmario::4lucas::4feroy:
These three have good odds of being cut in general, IMO.

And if I had to go further...
:4sheik::4zss:
Naturally these two would never be cut, but if it were up to me, I'd want to cut them before anyone else, since they're already present on the roster as Zelda and Samus.

The challenge had nothing to do with likelihood though.
