Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

So I just want to prepare everyone.

Hype considerably. They could info dump on us at E3 or they could just leave us with a few more sprinkles.

Just don't go in expecting the whole bag of potato chips because this might be a bag of Lays where you can only eat just one.
There's a reason I'm going to make sure to have June 12th off. I'll need to be here. >.>

Is anyone else concerned about the Solaire amiibo not appearing on Nintendo.com?

We'll see Smash in the video presentation, they have confirmed that, but, yes, we will also see more from it in the Treehouse and the Invitational.

The tweet just said smash presentation followed by E3 I am fairly sure.
nope, that's their e3, gonna eat up 3 hours of general news. smash, splatoon, and other **** is gonna get involved. smash stuff starts after the splatoon **** ends on june 12th. basically a stage change and prolly single elim 16-player tourney. then the 'presentation' proper starts up

****ing god they're still using 2014 footage from the invitational. can we consider those signs confirmations lol? XD

The Smash Invitational is after the Splatoon Finals, which are after the Nintendo E3 Presentation.

you are grasping at straws, mate.
they are going to use old invitational footage as that was their only smash invitational.
they aren't going to announce a port after so much secrecy. Every other port was announced without much fare.

and no, the presentation is before E3. They are STARTING with Smash.

So Interesting extra detail about the E3 presentation. Everything in the presentation is coming this year. That means Smash is 100% coming this year and there is a very high chance that Pokémon is going to be locked in for this year as well.

Source (good ol' GameXplain):

Edit: Maybe even freakin' Metroid!?
Smash, Pokemon, and Metroid in one year would probably be my hypest year ever. Obviously I'm skeptical, but the mere prospect gets me excited.

But yeah, that's interesting, only 2018 games for that part. I guess that means we'll possibly see Yoshi for the second E3 in a row. Now that I think about it, why did they announce it so soon?

There is actually a lot of stuff that Nintendo will be covering just for 2018. Need to throw Fire Emblem for Switch into that list as well.

This years E3 is going to be nuts!

****ing god there's such a confusing schedule, you'd think they'd have timeslots already arranged, especially since they have june 11th figured the **** out. also depends on how much this e3 they have to show. if pokemon/metroid still aren't ready for prime time they may fill with a 'direct' kinda **** presentation, then transition into splatoon 2 finals at 10-10:30 am, then whenever that ends go to smash.

Likely nothing til E3..? But Daddy Sakurai, you've already starved me for over a month... I might not make it another month and a half... Can I at least have a picture of Mario's overalls or something?

Yes, and who knows what other announcements there will be. Last year had several new announcements, so this year should also be stacked.

Pikmin 4 still being MIA deeply disturbs me though. Please Miyamoto, don't let there be another 9 year drought.

Only reason people believe in a port is because they were certain every Wii U game in existence was going to be ported and refuse to admit they are wrong. It has to be.

Dude, chill. You're really coming off as incessant and angry all the time on here.

We have absolutely no information to say that it is a port. No proof, no evidence whatsoever. The development time for this game pushes the likelihood that this is at least a Splatoon2-esque game. I don't know why every little thing needs to be "**** this, **** that, Smash Switch is gonna be a ****ing port Jesus ****".

Or because they think that Smash 4 could use more content. So it's not as simple as you make it.

Anyway, I doubt it's a port at this point. AT best, a super enhanced one that's effectively a new game ala Splatoon 2.

I'm confident that this is a full-on Smash 5, but I'd happily accept Smash 4.5 too.

I would’ve been happy with a port had this released at launch but considering the time they’ve had to make it I expect significant content added

Nintendo thus far has not obfuscated when it comes to ports. The Switch reveal was a unique case, given they technically didn't confirm that those games were going to Switch. Even then MK8D was accurately guessed. Splatoon 2 was influenced by the leakers, although some correctly called it as a sequel.

It would just be bad to not immediately call it a port. The majority of the time publishers are upfront about these things, and I don't see why now would be an exception.

Regardless, at E3 we will find out.

2 out of his 3 status updates are "go away" and "don't bother me", so I don't think you'll be gettin' through to him.

Personally, I'm placing my bet in the ballpark of 10 newcomers. Maybe a little less, maybe a little more, but I'm bettin' around that number.

For perspective, Smash 4 had 17 newcomers (not counting DLC which brings it up to 21), Brawl had 15, and Melee had 13.

Geez, 21 newcomers? I didn't even realize.

I can't see more than 15. I'm gonna have to agree with you and say 10-12.

I’m hoping since this might be the last smash for a while and maybe the last Sakurai directs, Sakurai goes all out with the roster. The smash ballot hopefully gives us some fan favorite characters

For clarification, I'm bettin' on around 10-12 newcomers in the base roster. I fully expect that number to expand with DLC later on.

I’m feeling risky
I bet the full roster is back with more newcomers than smash 4

So E3 it is then. Well so the countdown begins. At least they gave some times so now the context makes more sense now. They will provide the actual trailer during the Video Presentation with the tournament later that evening.

Let's talk about Classic Mode.

Did y'all like the 3DS or Wii U's new approach to Classic Mode? Or do you want to see it done differently/back to the way it was?Personally I didn't like Wii U, and I was okay with 3DS, just wish there was more in it than just battles.

Honestly, I think Melee perfected it overall. It built well on Smash 64's design. Though I liked unique board the platforms. >.>

I'm fine either way tbh. I see a lot of people compain about 8-player Smash being in Wii U's classic mode but it didn't bother me at all.

If it's like either version of Smash 4, maybe add a break the targets and race to the finish for some variety.

I'm interested to see if Master Core comes back. Maybe give it some new forms so it's not the exact same. As painful as it could be on 9.0, it was an exhilirating boss fight that felt so good to win against.

I think that they need to go back on the current design. I really like the formulaic approach of Melee, with adjusted knockback settings making it harder as you go on. For a refresher, here's how Melee worked:

Stage 1:
1 vs. 1 Battle

Stage 2:
2 vs. 2 Battle

Stage 3:
Target Test

Stage 4:
1 vs.1 Battle

Stage 5:
3 vs. 1 Giant Battle

Stage 6:
Snag the Trophies

Stage 7:
1 vs. 1 (remember, the knockback settings is making each battle more difficult)

Stage 8:
1 vs. 10 Multibattle

Stage 9:
Race to the Finish

Stage 10:
1 vs. 1 Metal Battle

Stage 11:
Master Hand

I think this could work really well in Smash Switch, with a few extra rounds added, maybe one for 6 or 8-player Smash as well as a 4-Player free for all.

Also, make the Metal Battle a battle with your in-game rival.
