Smash To Go

*Venue
Location:

Pictures:
  • More: [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6]

Information:
  • The venue does not have a sign that says "Knights Inn & Suites" in any way. You will be looking for a Brown sign that should just say "Los Fresnos Inn & Suites".
  • It's pretty much the only hotel in Los Fresnos. You can't really miss it.
  • Fee is $8, no waives or discounts will be given unless a guaranteed amount of 40+ people come. To ease this a bit, please post that you will be coming to this so I can add it up.
  • Drinks are permitted as long as they're bottled. Cans/Other drinks/Food are not allowed (Anything that can be spilled easily or cause a stain to the rug). Your drink can be left in the fridge.
  • Brownies will be given as a thank you if you bring a setup (Wii/GC/TV).
  • GPS systems and Google Maps (Google maps displays directions correctly, just watch for construction/potholes/etc.) are heavily outdated and may give you incorrect or longer directions so pay attention to the roads.

I would suggest taking 511 and going down Paredes Line if you are familiar with the road.
  • Tape will be given out so you can mark any items you may bring in such as Wii, TV, Drink, Food and so on. We are not responsible if there are any mixups, lost or stolen things (We're a friendly community but mixups do happen).
  • Los Fresnos is strict so drive safe and don't do anything dumb on the road.

*Brawl Rules

Notes:
Major changes are listed in RED. Minor changes are listed in YELLOW. Everything else is pretty much the same old, same old.

General Rules:
  • 3 Stocks
  • 8 Minute Timer
  • Items are "Off" and set to "None".
  • Best 2/3. Winners, Losers & Grand Finals are 3/5.
  • If the timer runs out, the victor is determined by stock and then by percentage.

Sudden Death will be ignored and settled with 1 stock, 4 minute timer. The same stage the timer ran out on will be played on again.
  • In the event of a dispute over controller ports (1v1 / 2v2), Rock - Papers - Scissors will be played to settle the dispute.
  • Stage Striking will be used.
  • Stages cannot be counterpicked if they have been played on before unless both players agree.
  • Banned stages can be played on if both players agree.
  • Prevention of the game continuing (Freezing, Disappearing and etc.) is a result in a forfeit of the player that caused it.
  • Mage's DQ Rule (Modified):
    2 Minutes Late – Warning
5 Minutes Late – Loss of first match of set
10 Minutes Late – Loss of set
  • For all Singles/Doubles related events: If less than 7 entrants participants there will be a no go and you will get your money back.
  • Low Tiers allowed:

    C Tier:
    Sonic (ONLY)

    D Tier:
    Bowser
    Zelda
    Pokémon Trainer
    Ike

    E Tier:
    Lucas
    Mario
    Ness
    Yoshi
    Samus

    F Tier:
    Jigglypuff
    Captain Falcon
    Link
    Ganondorf

Neutral Stages:
  • Battlefield
  • Final Destination
  • Smashville
  • Yoshi's Island (Brawl)
  • Pokemon Stadium 1

Counterpick Stages:
  • Lylat Cruise
  • Delfino Plaza
  • Luigi's Mansion
  • Norfair
  • Frigate Orpheon
  • Halberd
  • Pokemon Stadium 2
  • Castle Siege
  • Pictochat
  • Hanenbow (Doubles Only)
  • Jungle Japes
  • Rainbow Cruise
  • Green Greens
  • Brinstar
Stages are up to discussion however I would like to make an attempt and allow more stages. You can discuss whether or not they should not be allowed but with over 35+ stages and barely breaking 15 stages allowed is not really fun. But by all means please provide proof of why the stage should be banned and videos as well.

Banned Techniques:
  • Stalling is banned. This goes toward the usual: MK Infinite Demensional Cape, IC's chain grab, Dedede's standing grab, Planking and so on. Definition: Stalling- The act of deliberately avoiding any and all conflict so that one may make the game unplayable. This includes MK infinite cape, excessive edge stalling, or any form of stalling under the stage (DK spin, sonic charge B, snake infinite down B teching, etc).
  • Dedede's small-step chain grab is banned.

If you believe your opponent has done something against the rules, call out one of the hosts and save the replay.

*Brawl Codelist
Limitations
  • Almost anything is allowed as long as it doesn't interfere with the gameplay.
  • No tripping isn't a problem, the option is completely yours. I'm not going to call you a bad person for having it on when others have it on anyway.
  • Character & stage textures are not allowed in tournament. If I see a Wii with textures on during tournament I will hold your SD card until you ask for it back but please, no textures.
  • Custom music/sound effects/trails* are welcomed. No loud or obnoxious music, please.

*Trails: Meta Knight, Marth and Ike sword effects for example. Nothing heavy though.

*Melee Rules
Notes:

Please go through the Melee ruleset and tell me if there are any problems or things that need to be fixed.

General Rules:
  • Each player gets one reset for the first match on random, and each player also gets to strike a stage.
So they would strike whatever they don't wanna play on, say one picks Corneria and the other Final Destination. They then go random the first match (unless the agree on a stage) the random comes up; either player can reset if they don't wanna play on it. Then they gonna go random again if the other player doesn't like it he can reset also. If a stage was reset you can still counterpick it if you wanted.
  • 4 Stock
  • 8 Minutes
  • Items off.
  • Sets are best of 3 until Winners/Losers bracket Semi-finals are reached. Semi-finals to Grand Finals will be Best out of 5.
  • Ties are broken by remaining lives, then %. If both criteria are tied, then the Sudden Death match will be played out.
  • Advanced Slob Picks: After the first match is played, the Winner of the first match bans a stage, then the loser of the first match will announce a new stage to play on for the next match. The winner will then be allowed to switch characters, followed by the loser. Apply the same logic for the third match (and fourth/fifth when applicable) if there is one.
  • No stage may be used twice in a single set if the counter-picking player has already won on that stage, unless the opponent agrees to use the stage again. (Dave's Stupid Rule)
  • Double Blind character pick can be called at anytime before the first game of a set starts, and only apply to the first game. Let your pool captain know if you choose to utilize Double Blind.
  • Controller Mods, Glitches (IC Freeze Glitch, Mewtwo Soul Stunner, etc), and tactics used to stall a match (wall-bombing, rising pound), are banned.
  • Wobbling is NOT banned
  • Mage's DQ Rule (Modified):
    2 Minutes Late – Warning
5 Minutes Late – Loss of first match of set
10 Minutes Late – Loss of set
  • For all Singles/Doubles related events: If less than 7 entrants participants there will be a no go and you will get your money back.
  • Low Tiers allowed:

    Low Tier:
    Link
    Pikachu
    Young Link
    Roy
    Zelda
    Game and Watch

    Bottom Tier:
    Ness
    Yoshi
    Bowser
    Mewtwo
    Kirby
    Pichu

Team's specific rules:

  • Team Attack will be ON, life stealing allowed.

I will fix some things that are incorrect/out of place later. As said before it was rushed, a thread in tournament listings will be made and an AiB link will be posted later but discussion sticks here.

As for Onett... I seriously don't think it's that bad of a stage, even if Dedede/Chaingrabbers can counterpick there. It's a heavy counterpick but no where near as bad as Norfair for example which is rather "extreme". I'd like to give it a shot but left it as a discussion for now and give some other small level stages a shot like Green Greens. Please also state as to why I should leave it out as well... I would like to know your opinion and whole situation on it or what you would do if you were counterpicked to it in tournament.

I also left Luigi's Mansion in even as bad as people say it is... I don't think it's as bad as Norfair for example. But Luigi's Mansion does compare to Onett in a way. Either way we'll see how it goes.

Kinda far, but if anyone from my area is interested, I might go.
"Location: Antarctica"

Syoudus, You've felt it when you CP delfino and Castle siege, you know that during those transformations you are just broken, you see everyone just running away hoping they dont get grabbed during that. During Onett you have that same broken advantages the entire time on onett, if you get a grab on onett its a stock loss on 90% of the stage, with the other 10% being a location that is very very bad to be. Onett is a stupid stage and has no hope of coming back to CP

I think if any of the neutral stages are to be taken out it would Pokemon Staium 1. Reasons being that PS1 and its many transformations can cater certain characters, and put a decent amount of characters in a tight spot. To where they do not only have to fight the opponent but the stage as well. Even if the changes do not last forever they still exist.

If not PS1 then the next stage i would pull for is Lylat. The tilt of the stage can gimp characters without any effort from the opponent.

have the custom stages available
They've been replaced with in-game stages... Though Onett is looking pretty slim.

Cool, IMO I think this could be the biggest and most awesome tournament from our area. If there's any time to go, it's now.

It's a cat and mouse game and a gamble everytime... Understandable. However I would think and feel if I were to counterpick Dedede I would use Delfino/Rainbow Cruise. We can't really know just how bad this stage is because nobody has used it in a tournament. But at the same time it can be OP and I can be entirely wrong...

I think Diddy is my worst fear on the stage with the banana wall infinites. Which is actually more scary to me and can possibly guarantee me being hit by the cars. Regardless though the stage is looking very very slim after putting a bit more thought into other characters and possibilities...

Once I remove the stage what would you suggest putting in for it's spot or at least discuss about it. The two other stages I know of that's been used in tournament before are Port Aero Drive which is IMO under the "extreme" case as Norfair OR Yoshi's Island (Melee). We could just remove it and stick with what we have but like I said before I'd like to expand the stages.

Yoshi's Island (Melee) falls under a heavy counterpick. The only thing that prevented me from adding it was the left side could be abused a little too easily... A down smash from Toon Link (lol), G&W and so on can easily be abused on the stage for an OHKO. The blocks may also interfere with the fight as can lead to living at ridiculous percentages. The right side of the stage can be abused by Dedede but only by certain characters and can easily be broken out of it if you're not quick enough (Due to how steep the slopes are)..

Now that I think about it more and more I think removing Onett and leaving it at that is fine for now. Still though I'd like to hear others opinions on it instead of just them saying they hate it.

Both stages are "okay". Lylat is the way to go though (In terms of being a true neutral). Regardless I'll leave Magik to discuss over this because I think he knows more about Pokemon Stadium 1 than I do.

JF would be too good if he came. anyways i dont think anything can stop me from making this i need my melee fill
All TV's (If there are enough games/Wii's/all that) will have Melee with the exception of maybe 2. Just to really speed things up and open up everything.

Anyway I will need assistants and hostees during the tournament so... Magik & Defsithe, want to help out?

Some equipment is also appreciated we would need at least the following: Extension cords (I can provide 2. I know Vorguen has like 3 more in his car), Speaker/Microphone system (Vorguen has this covered but if he doesn't want to provide it I can provide one unless someone speaks up. It doesn't need to be too loud.) and maybe some other stuff but I think I have everything necessary.

Twitter is up as well (Forgot to post this) if you all do that stuff or want updates on your phone, http://www.twitter.com/rgvsmash.

i say drop onett and add norfair
make norfair the ONLY cp stage
Alright alright, anyone in favor of adding Norfair to counterpicks? I think Norfair is far too much but if everyone agrees to it, it's alright.

oh and there should be melee doubles. . . . please?
I was thinking of adding Melee doubles. I have the venue till 12am but I'd like to stop everything by 10:30pm at the latest and have a few TV's running for a few more late friendlies before everything stops. We'll see how it goes during the tournament but Melee doubles can happen if there's enough interest (Aka those interested, post now).

i can take a wii/brawl to help out and i think baron can also.

both of our wii's have IR's too
Perfect. I need to post a "legal codeset" though or at least what's allowed. Another small thing I forgot but it isn't really important or necessary really...

For those that bring setups of any kind (Wii/GC/TV) I will permit food to be in the fridge (see venue picture #6) if you like. I will be bringing small stuff like cheese, turkey and ham along with bread in case you all want sandwiches for your troubles. I forgot to also add that there's Stars, Subway, Dairy Queen and local restaurants in the area. So if you bring anything of the sort and want to store your food, you can use the fridge. I'm going to update the original post soon with the additional information.

First post updated, please check it over I checked it as much as I could to fix any typos and mistakes. I didn't even realize I had Hanenbow listed as Halberd for Doubles only. I added the Genesis Melee ruleset with changes (Which I hope I covered everything).

Major changes are the events now so take a look at that. Melee Doubles was added taking place of Brawl Doubles. Brawl Doubles now starts at 2:30PM. As said before, post if you show interest to Melee doubles otherwise events will route back to their original route if there is no interest.

Alright I should've updated this 2 days ago so my bad... Anyway quite possibly the *final* ruleset/op edit.

Only noticeable changes are events changing to allow Brawl Low Tier Doubles at 7:00PM Anything else after that is up in the air still. I have some ideas... I'll post them later though, I would like to see your thoughts on Doubles and ideas for anything else. The other new thing that I added was a late fee. If we've set up the brackets and have the game near ready to go, you will be charged a $2 late fee. To make sure this doesn't happen... be there at LEAST 30 minutes ahead of time for your event.

Also JesusFreak, if you do decide to travel here for Melee or Brawl, invite others, please. It's quite dead around here and it would help our tournament performance in the future (whether or not it'd be my tournament). It would also save gas money if 6 people pitched in at the same time... of course depending on your car/van. If you need housing, post it. I'm sure someone would be willing to help you out.

To everyone else, we currently have 22 people (regulars and number estimated) that have come to our tournament at least once within our past 3 tournaments. Spread the word out, please. This will help a bigger turnout and a better experience at the tournament. Equipment is also appreciated and helps run things more smoothly so post what you can provide whether or not it'd be small as long as it can help run the tournament.

I think I covered everything. Anyway review, check it over twice, and so on.

As derk said, I will be able to bring a wii and brawl. No tv though. In the OP you might want to state no textures for characters and stages, might clear a few things up.

For codes for brawl what about small things like, diddy's bananas being red, instead of yellow?

add low tier singles

remove green greens
We'll see if there's enough time and enough interest. Doubles was added so everything runs much faster and smoothly. Singles would take too long.

you should add melee low tier >.> <,<
As said above only if there's enough time / enough interest.

Heavy things like red bananas aren't allowed. I only specified and allowed

By trails I meant trails of Meta Knight's, Marth's, Ike's sword (as an example) as long as they're not too heavily edited. Character side edits like bananas are a bit too much I think. It's like editing Snake's items to white so every single item sticks out like there's no tomorrow. At least to me.

If I need to I'll add the stage textures part later but I think it should get the picture out there.

So I had an idea a few days back, I hesitated to post it but decided why not now.

I wanted at least 5 separate TV's for Smash.

Two for Doubles/Singles (Running off one Wii, Dual Monitors in a way).
Why? People tend to complain about not enough room for doubles or people being discouraged by noise/**** talking/etc. This is a must if I can find the right compatible TV during the tournament IMO. But at the same may not happen due to a lack of TV's...

Three for friendlies.
If we have enough setups... there will be one melee friendly station and two brawl friendly stations (may change, unsure). But I want at least two separate stations meant entirely for friendlies. This can't happen unless people bring TV's/Wii's.

Anyway, if you want to pass around some flyers on myspace/smashboards or whatever...
