Even if I chosen games like fire emblem fates(FE awaking is the best non smash game)and doctor Mario for 3ds or nes(I main him and sheik in melee) are way higher on my want list for the reasons I already said but all I have for pokemon is that people say its good and I'm a jwittz fan so many one day hopefully sooner or later

Pokemon is a series where there's absolutely no reason to start at the beginning. Honestly, if you want to get into the series I'd suggest picking up either X/Y or Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire. That was you may enjoy the series in its newest and most modern incarnation with feels unfettered by nostalgia bias. I have a friend who never even touched anything Pokemon related until Black/White came out and she absolutely loved it.

Besides, the original Red/Blue/Yellow have aged so badly that they're not even worth playing anymore. If you want to experience gen 1, then check out the GBA remakes. Which are dated, but not nearly as badly as their original counterparts.

This is going to sound crazy, but even as an old-era gamer who started on the SNES and original Gameboy...I haven't played a Metroid game.
