but now you guys added so much to the 64 forums it might as well have its own subforum instead of sharing it with melee. this new **** is just confusing.

i do not expect someone who has no idea on the online scene to have a correct opinion on the state of this game, as far as i can recall, there are more players now than the last few years.
and nicely done only taking US into account, there are no other parts in this world.
i am sorry but the argument you have given just feels like someone very young would write.
and i truly mean no offense, just my gut reactions.
maybe the community is growing in the online servers (I really don't know)
but just time I checked we were still having small pitiful smash 64 tournaments that are composed of like 8 people, attached to a Melee or Brawl tournament.

i am not saying that 64 is thriving and is the size of melee or brawl, just that the argument of it dying is without any basis.

ok, so you're arguing that a game is dying just as its biggest english-speaking community becomes more prominently recognised...and your big rebuttal is that my diction is off?

not to mention that you admit yourself you don't know anything about the current online scene, which is far more convenient for people who don't live in the us (scratch that, california)...

Never said I don't know ANYTHING I said I don't know much.
If a game is dead no one plays it/no tournies.

If a game is dying, means there are only small tournies.
Just cause ur dying doesn't mean ur dead.

And okay maybe NOW we got all this hype cause this new character specific forum and other additions. But I honestly don't think it's gonna last. But that's just me. Remember that it's all opinion.

Really glad to hear everyone has been so happy with the changes (And that I did in fact get lots of thanks and smiley faces!). As stated lets try to shoot for a banner year SSB64 wise.

A couple questions brought up I will hit on real quick.

Battlecow, the reason I elected against a truly openly viewable backroom is that we have toyed with them before in other backrooms and they never proved effective. Having posts and topics referencing posts that were just made or one random point before everyone else gets to weigh in and debate it out so to speak in the backroom, really just derails the general board more than anything. Its one of those things that sounds nice in theory, but ultimately until certain discussion have worked there way through are just better kept private on top of some topics that should just be private period (for instance talking about new applicants and the decision process). However, the intention of offering stuff back to general discussion, creating more than taking away, is what I really want to keep. And thats why I will just be pushing hard for lots of resources, lots of transparency, and lots of key points and debates to be posted back in here once they are ready to be presented. I feel like we will accomplish the good having a viewable backroom intended to without derailing or disrupting the general flow of this room. At some point down the line there might be enough finished discussion in there to separate the room into two parts. One for the archived finished topics (that can be viewed by all) and one private section for important on going topics not ready to be seen by all. But we are still aways from having enough content in the room for that.

L1ON, Ill mention the idea of Animal Crossing to replace where 64 used to be and see what some other admins think.

Animal Crossing and Harvest Moon together could be viable (maybe a couple other life sims too)

imo Animal Crossing alone isn't big enough a franchise

Also I would recommend the backroom be selectively open for viewing (deciding members is hidden, etc), not only because most interested players would be able to understand and form good opinions on what is being discussed, but also because the majority (including myself) who supported a backroom also supported at least a trial for an openly viewable backroom, and for some members the visibility of the backroom was what would decide whether they agreed with the implementation of one.

The 64 community is small, but that attribute may make it more viable to have a open backroom. I'd strongly suggest giving a openly viewable backroom a shot, and I'm sure most of the community would be with me on that.

Smash 64 in the Melee section? :lick:

Took a while to sink in and had to refresh the page a few times but this is an awesome step to our ultimate goal of WORLD DOMINATION!!! :chuckle:

But seriously, just an awesome outcome.

Great,

You should rename the melee + 64 section the "Combo" section

Because as you know, brawl has no combos.

That's be totally worth it if only to see the Brawl players reactions.

Jake is definitely dropping Yoshi
What are you talking about guys? Brawl has combos. For example, DDD's down throw infinite, Ice Climbers chain throw infinites, yoshi's grab release infinite, Marth's grab release infinite, Meta Knight's tornado, etc. :p

haha it's fun making fun of brawl just to see people's reactions :p

Though that said, I am a competitive(ish) brawler myself, and know that brawl actually does have some true legitimate combos. But it's still fun to make fun of it anyways :p

Awesome, thanks. I personally just got into animal crossing quite recently so I can't gauge how active the forum would be... but it's great fun and it seems you enjoy it too if I can correctly identify your avatar haha.

Ahahahahaha.

I'm seriously loving the character specific thread. I've learned more in 10 minutes there than in all my previous time in smash 64 discussion.

Btw if 30+ people are playing smash64 pretty much all the time (online), I wouldn't call that dying (this is before the merger). I doubt the combining of the boards will increase traffic long term, but it's still nice to have.
Read earlier posts. I'm talking about tournament size (console).
And yeah it's sad to admit but seriously Ssb64 is a dying game.
I love this game, this game is my favorite of the three.
But that's just the facts

Now you're just being obnoxious because we didn't like your 50% damage ratio idea. Were smash tournaments ever much bigger than they are now? Not really. Ergo, it has as much "life" as it ever did. Also, judging it solely by console tournament size is stupid; it should be measured by players, level of competition, enthusiasm about it, etc. as well.

Unlike Surri, I'm perfectly willing to let people come in here and talk badly about the game. But use logic next time pl0x, instead of nebulously defined and overdramatic hot-button phrases like "dying game".

"Dying" implies that the Smash64 scene used to be significantly larger than it is now, which as far as I can tell, it never was. If anything, Smash64 is growing. I'm starting to see Smash64 at large tournaments such as Apex 2 and Genesis 2, and while it's still considered a side event, at least it's starting to catch the eye of people that play other smash games. And now, we've finally gained some recognition and have been fished up from the depths of the General Gaming forum (not quite our own section yet, but oh well). We may still have a long way to go, but we'll get there.

This was all i ment, if you cant tell all that BS i wrote was a joke...then i dunno xD it was pretty plain how stupidly it was wrote...(my post after saying about "simply trash talking for no reason" ...but i said slander...and i think that might actually be libel in the case of smash boards lol)

finally someone who makes sense lol.
Unlike all these other people.

That is a good point something that I didn't think about earlier.

Battlecow you call me obnoxious. Just like when I talked about your online play and you said that wasn't the issue at hand, in this case my 50% game isn't the issue at hand.
So stfu
I still play the regular game so I don't see how in the hell that would have to do anything.
Unlike yourself, Shooting Star can actually be civilized and make a good argument without being a meanie
Good day sirs

stop the bashing now alright and just stick to the topic :(
Ban hammer ftl ~ :(

question: Battlecow insulted me, and I insult him (a little) back.
Yet I'm the only one getting an infraction.
Seriously these forums fail at getting their order together.

I actually had to edit your post for inappropriate content...so yes I gave you an infraction...while not giving him one...because i did not have to do that for him.

Can regular members even see the infractions i give others anyways? I dont think so...

yeah but the forums say that flaming is when you respond to someone who is insulting you, or if you instigate it. So in this case it doesn't matter who started it, since we BOTH broke the rules for flaming (responding and starting it)

2. A Backroom will be created

It was interesting to see both sides present arguments and fall on each side of the debate. The last time I saw the poll it was something like 45 for, 35 against, including seeing 2 of each of the 4 mods on both side. That is pretty telling to the parity on this one.

But in end I have similar feelings to it as I do to other backrooms. If done properly it can do a tremendous amount of good, produce resources for the community at large, create discussion, and be a leader to a furthering community.

That said this is the most conditional backroom we are going to make on the boards, likely ever. It is being created with the sole intention of producing more than it will take away from the main discussion. The 64 community is just too niche to take the most important discussions and leave them to the chosen individuals in the backroom. I 100% expect to see every finalized character discussion, stage discussion, tier list logic, rule set revision, to have not only the end result but the very logic and key debates points highlighted and presented in here (General Discussion) for all to see, all to talk about. If this is done, the backroom will create more than it takes away discussion wise. And if it does not get done the backroom will be done away with. I am not having a room that hurts the 64 community at large by taking what could be a community discussion to a smaller group and not giving back.

This will be short coming (I still need to talk to some candidates to oversee the group and make sure they are on the same page with me on the group and willing and dedicated to it) and the application and selection process will be left up to the leadership team of your new Smash 64 backroom and posted there after. That said I am excited to see it, and if it is done right it will be great for the 64 community. The backroom leaders will also have a direct line to me for making any positive changes for sake of the smash 64 community.
So there will be a leadership team? Who will it be made of?

He just insinuated you were being obnoxious and poked at your lack of logic, neither of which was really 'flaming' tbh

in fact I think battlecow contributed quite validly, you just stopped reading his response after the word 'obnoxious' because he was a 'meanie' (lol)

stop lashing out at people, it doesn't help anyone's case

So there will be a leadership team? Who will it be made of?
I'd like to know this as well.

I like how people say this every time they get infracted for an argument on Smashboards, when in reality they have no idea. Perhaps people are trying to make sure that "justice" (in their opinions) is served?
